To think that people under 50 don’t watch the king’s speech on Christmas Day?

Just that really. I’ve never watched it because I grew up in a household that wasn’t royalist. I don’t know any friends who make time to watch it. The only person I know who does watch it is my 82-year-old MiL.
So do you watch it? Are you under 50?

Never watched it. Probably never will

TheGriffle · 18/11/2024 19:50

Never watched a Queens/Kings speech and I’m 38.

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 18/11/2024 19:50

I do, always have! It’s part of the day surely! Christmas lunch starters and main, watch the kings speech then have pudding

Littleme2023 · 18/11/2024 19:50

I watch it every year, maybe not exactly when it’s on but will always watch it at some point. I’m in my late 30’s.

On the other side my parents aren’t fussed 🤷🏻‍♀️

PurBal · 18/11/2024 19:50

I'm 34. I don't think I've ever not watched it tbh. Even when I lived abroad I tuned in.

Dirtyprotest · 18/11/2024 19:50

I think the under 40s probably less likely, and hardly any under 30s. Modern wankers.

Kangarude · 18/11/2024 19:50

I’m over 50 and I don’t watch it. Never watched the Queen’s either

PurBal · 18/11/2024 19:50

Also: can't open presents until after the speech!

EmmaMaria · 18/11/2024 19:51

Never watched it since I left my parents home. I'm 67.

I'm 35 and never watched it. My parents do every year bur I don't know anyone else who does.

Snorlaxo · 18/11/2024 19:51

I’m mid 40s never watched it and never plan to.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 18/11/2024 19:52

I'm 53 and I've never once watched it. None of my family does. I think dh's grandmother did, but she was a big fan of the royal family. Tbh I don't think I'd have watched it even if I quite liked the royal family (which I don't). I imagine it would be staggeringly dull!

Tereseta · 18/11/2024 19:52

Always watched it, part of the day's traditions though its not the same without the Queen.

sprigatito · 18/11/2024 19:52

Nobody in my family would even consider watching it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/11/2024 19:52

51 and haven't seen it for years. Had to endure it as a teenager when grandparents or aunties were there for dinner. I don't see the point of it really. They never have much of interest or gravity to say.

itsmylife7 · 18/11/2024 19:53

I'm over 50 and have never watched Queen or King speech

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 18/11/2024 19:53

Used to watch the queen unless it clashed with dinner (always planned to sit down at 3 but usually running late) not really interested in Charles though. I'm 40

Precipice · 18/11/2024 19:53

The only person I've ever met who watched it, to my knowledge, was a teacher I had in school.

sprigatito · 18/11/2024 19:54

My dad is &4 and would rather stick pins in his eyes

ATastingMenuButItsAllCrisps · 18/11/2024 19:54

I have never watched it or his mother's, and never will. Don't even own a TV 😄

What the hell?!

Nottodaygoaway · 18/11/2024 19:55

It used to be put on when I lived at home but I've not bothered for nearly 30 years. It's all a bit pointless. Surely an email to the Commonwealth will do?

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 18/11/2024 19:55

We never watched it - we'd be in the middle of lunch when it was on

Allywill · 18/11/2024 19:55

i am also over 50 and have never watched it. don’t know how people have time to be honest, christmas day is really full on.
