I'll kick it off with Fairy Liquid!
Has anyone else noticed this? I have a dishwasher but often wash certain things, eg my big frying pan, by hand. You'd certainly need a mighty big squeeze these days, for a proper foamy lather.
Anything else? If nobody mentions Cadbury's chocolate, I will eat the Oodie I'm currently wearing Grin

Also, Aldi. Used to love the place but now can’t stand it and the quality has massively deteriorated

Georgyporky · 17/11/2024 12:17

M&S clothes, used to be so reliable.
Fabric is frequently shite, & sizing is all over the place

ExpressCheckout · 17/11/2024 12:17

Echo all the posts here about poor/surly service in shops.

Recently I was in Superdrug and couldn't find a product. I asked an assistant who was about 21 years old. She rolled her eyes, corrected my pronunciation of the product, and then reluctantly showed me where it could be found. I really felt as if I was wasting her time.

Ditto other stores.

Is 'matey' a brand?
I was looking through the post to find it excessively friendly 😂

Yes Matey is a brand! I’m old enough to remember when it was a powder that came in a cardboard box. Did make great bubbles.

Mobile phones. Mine is over a decade old and still going strong whereas DC and DH seem to need to a new one every couple of years not necessarily because they are after the latest model, but because the phones jack in.

I hate this so much. It's often not the phone, but the battery, which you used to be able to easily replace. Now I can still do it but it requires small tools and a heat gun and a willingness to void the warranty.

Usually five minutes before the extortionate companies who basically rent the phone to me, and install bloatware for my troubles, announce they're not going to push Android updates to phone models older than X years.

Dirty fuckers.

Driving!

Someone reversed into me, they weren't paying attention and my car was written off. I've been on edge since but I'm even more aware of how badly people drive than I was. Other drivers scare me sometimes.

My heart was literally in my mouth twice in the supermarket car park earlier, because people reverse their tanks with only them in it cars without looking, I was sat in my bay waiting to go and my car started beeping as they were getting too close.

To be fair, I don’t look when I’m reversing because I have reversing cameras that are way more accurate!

My answer is KLEENEX though. All of a sudden in the last couple of months you can't blow your nose without blowing through the tissue, which is as grim as it sounds. I haven't started blowing my nose any harder!

Same story with loo roll. I won't go into details, but what is more likely to have changed, my bum-hole or the paper I'm trying to wipe it with?

All electricals - nothing seems to last more than about 5yrs. My mum was still using things she had bought when getting married in the 60s thirty years later - no chance these days!

If she is using things that she bought when she got married in the 60's, they are 60 years old - not 30!

ZippyLimeSnake · 17/11/2024 12:18

Quality Street. I will never ever buy another box. Lucozade original, Henry Hoover, white goods. Literally the list goes on 🥲 I’ve lived in my own place for 12 years, in that time I’ve had to replace 2 tumble dryers, my washing machine, my fridge & my oven is on its last legs. My dad still has the same tumble dryer from when I was in primary school! I’m 31. His fridge he had since I was born & was still going until I was 22 & he only got rid as he was moving house. He had a Vax hoover that was older than I am 🤣

Aldi Magnum washing up liquid is v good for those looking for a Fairy alternative

ElsaLion · 17/11/2024 12:19

Town centres - once places with individuality and unique shops/family owned businesses that had been there for generations, are now all proliferated by the same predictable high street chains and brands, depending on how 'naice' the town is (think White Company, Crew Clothing, Jo Malone etc) for leafier towns.

Clothes - I object to having to spend almost £250 for an 'authentic woollen' coat, only to find it is only 70% wool.

That is hilarious but also it’s very true! Toilet paper these days if terrible.

musters · 17/11/2024 12:20

Bread, too often soft and pappy, ham now days in supermarkets it is reconstituted meat that has never been near a ham bone. Fail to understand how things like 'turkey ham' is allowed to use the word ham.

Wishfives · 17/11/2024 12:20

@Nothatgingerpirate proper matey bubble bath ( nowadays rubbish!)

Sorry, but customer service.

I don’t ask for much. A “hello” “please” and “thank you” and no eye rolling would be nice. Someone to show me where something is that I can’t find. Someone to listen when I have an adjustment in my food order. Someone to check if they have a size 10 in the back somewhere.

But I find customer service is full of morose and sulky young people raised on TikTok to believe they deserve better, who think they don’t owe it to their job to put in a bit of hard work in. They’ve been brainwashed into thinking that is acceptable to see older women who don’t simper and stay quiet as a “Karen” And now we all have to be in the default position that someone has a MH issue or is having a bad day so asking where flaxseed is, or telling them you’re unhappy because your food did have the ingredient in you asked to be excluded, or asking for a bit of extra help is being a bothersome “Karen”. IMO it’s led to a generation of poor customer service and I find it very irritating.

On a similar note - food quality in restaurants. To pay £17+ for a bland meal I could have made better at home is something I’m not prepared to do anymore. Such a shame as I have always loved eating out.

I think lockdown made everything a bit shit and we all accepted it at the time with the assumption it would go back to normal and it never did

Customers are more entitled and rude. I blame older people who seem to have forgotten their manners

PontiacFirebird · 17/11/2024 12:22

Fairy makes me very sad. It was literally the only brand loyalty I had. I love the smell of the original Fairy too 😔

MargaretThursday · 17/11/2024 12:24

Oodies. They're much easier to eat nowadays. <joking>

100%

Dishwashers, washing machines, dryers ... all seem built to have to be replaced within 5 years. It's frustrating and expensive. It absolutely never used to be like that!

I really think customers are just going in expecting to be treated with total contempt, and are fed up with it. I’m not saying all customers behave well but even when you ask really politely for help it’s rare to be treated as anything other than an annoyance.
I blame the way supermarkets behaved during the pandemic. They cleaned up and then some, but reduced staff, increased self check outs, and now most of them make you get a “ loyalty” card, which you need if you can’t afford to pay massively inflated prices on half the stuff.
They treat their staff like shit, don’t pay to train them properly and as customers we are well aware we are just shit on the shareholders shoes.

I did the same but am now finding the original to be just as poor 🤨

It really is, we go through it a lot faster now because it just doesn't work as well? Really annoying!

Aldi dishwasher tablets also came out better than Fairy in a recent test/review thing.
