I'll kick it off with Fairy Liquid!
Has anyone else noticed this? I have a dishwasher but often wash certain things, eg my big frying pan, by hand. You'd certainly need a mighty big squeeze these days, for a proper foamy lather.
Anything else? If nobody mentions Cadbury's chocolate, I will eat the Oodie I'm currently wearing Grin

I ordered a dress online that I really liked the look of. When it arrived, the fabric was so bad that nothing would redeem it. It’s probably that recycled eco stuff, but it’s like scratchy paper.

Sure we need to recycle, but if manufacturers can’t do better than thin as vanity paper, I’m not going to be buying.

gannett · 17/11/2024 11:35

My answer is KLEENEX though. All of a sudden in the last couple of months you can't blow your nose without blowing through the tissue, which is as grim as it sounds. I haven't started blowing my nose any harder!

Littlemissgobby · 17/11/2024 11:36

It’s funny that you should mention this yesterday I bought a bottle of shloer and they substitute it for the zero kind, but I don’t think it even matters because I’ve tried the normal red one the other week and I wasn’t keen on that so I thought right I’ll try the white one because as a kid I really loved the white one it was and nice.
Anyway, they sent me this zero one and it was absolutely disgusting and I’m really gone off it. I do think they’ve changed the recipe. It doesn’t even taste anything like it used to so I would not recommend buying it for Christmas this year.

I think in this case the fabric is thin not because it’s recycled, but because it’s cheaper for the manufacturer.

Kids' bubble bath. It's all organic and gentle and smells lovely but I've not found one that can produce a decent lasting amount of bubbles. Admittedly incredibly hard water here but disappointing nonetheless.

Can u not get matey anymore

Bluevelvetsofa · 17/11/2024 11:38

@ThePerkyDuck the label said it was recycled.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 17/11/2024 11:39

Clothing, sizing, material, fit. It's all just meh!

Toothpaste, I've given up with colgate and now use supermarket own brand which is better. A few months back I was in Spain and picked up some colgate there, much better quality than what we get, cheaper and a bigger tube. Don't understand that one.

Mitchum deodorant. Whatever they done to their formula it left my pits stinking. I used to use their sports version, not anymore.

Wishfives · 17/11/2024 11:39

@Littlemissgobby matey nowadays is rubbish it's all thin and not bubbly ( and the bottle is "wrong" I loved the 80s design)

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 17/11/2024 11:40

@Seeline absolutly have to agree with you. My cooker is broken only had it four years. These things use to last a life time.
My nanna had hairdryers, fridge freezers, microwaves, record players for a life time.

Yep, same here. I've used Fairy Liquid for years, and I've now switched to another brand. I don't know what they've done to it, but it's terrible.

I buy the fairy liquid 'original' stuff rather than the newfangled 'hint of apple' type stuff. Works fine for me...

😂 this is so true. Also on a very hard water area. Must use a 6th of a bottle of baby bath just to get decent bubbles 😅

I think I’d echo clothes, it’s so hard to find quality basics. Toilet paper, chocolate.

I think it's great that young people think they deserve better than to be on the receiving end of customers' superiority complexes.

I don't really require anything more of retail staff than to process my transaction quickly and efficiently, and if I need actual help then to provide it if they can. I certainly don't expect or require them to smile or do any emotional labour.

You think asking where a product is or asking for an adjustment in food orders due to allergies or intolerances is a superiority complex? I’m pleased I don’t have such low standards TBH.

Why don’t you expect a smile? Isn’t it good manners to smile at people? Coddling young people is hardly helpful

Agree about clothes. Fabric you could spit through. Acrylic/polyester everywhere. Especially annoying in the supposed higher end shops who think nothing of charging £100 for a dress made of the same manmade material as a £15 dress from Primark. Possibly better cut, but still made in a sweatshop in China.

WearyLady · 17/11/2024 11:47

I use Fairy Liquid in both hard and soft water areas. It's rubbish in both. It's not the water, it's the product. Time to switch.

Something that strikes me almost every time I go into a museum is that there are items on show which are hundreds of years old, or more, and still functional.

Nobody would ever expect stuff made nowadays to still exist in the 2500s, let alone be usable.

It's less that I don't expect a smile and more that I truly don't care whether minimum-wage staff smile at me or not.

Obviously you can make customer requests sound as reasonable as you want but from what I witness in shops, the customer is very often in the wrong and on a power trip over an employee they know can't push back. It's sad to see.

Jammy wagon wheels - still delish but so much smaller than they used to be and barely any jam 😭

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 17/11/2024 11:50

Driving!

Someone reversed into me, they weren't paying attention and my car was written off. I've been on edge since but I'm even more aware of how badly people drive than I was. Other drivers scare me sometimes.

My heart was literally in my mouth twice in the supermarket car park earlier, because people reverse their tanks with only them in it cars without looking, I was sat in my bay waiting to go and my car started beeping as they were getting too close.

“Emotional labour”? Are you having a laugh? Saying please and thank you, and smiling At the customer isn’t exactly a big ask, part of the job description surely? I think saying that being pleasant to a customer is too much to ask, or “pandering to superiority” just about sums up perfectly why most interactions are shit now.

And yes, I did work in a shop when I was younger so yes, I do know that a lot of customers can be horrible. But I also know that, like most things in life, you often get back what you give out.

Politicians

Ha-ha. No, they've always been shite, it's just that there are fewer places for them ( and their poor behaviour) to hide.
