I'll kick it off with Fairy Liquid!
Has anyone else noticed this? I have a dishwasher but often wash certain things, eg my big frying pan, by hand. You'd certainly need a mighty big squeeze these days, for a proper foamy lather.
Anything else? If nobody mentions Cadbury's chocolate, I will eat the Oodie I'm currently wearing Grin

Oh and Waitrose loo roll. There was a separate thread on that 😂

It does make you want to bulk buy when you find something you like.

Jeans. If I'm buying jeans I want them to be denim which is a decent weight and at least 95% cotton not lightweight pale blue polyester.

Yes! I'm sick of checking the fabric content and finding polyester and/or viscose. I want 99% cotton. I spent months trying to find jeans recently which weren't wide leg or skinny, were the right length, and the right fabric and sent back more than I care to think about. I'm sure it never used to be so difficult.

TV shows. I'm thinking the fabulous family and comedy shows we used to have - everything from The Generation Game to Only Fools & Horses, Blackadder, Men Behaving Badly, Ab Fab etc. I also loved Dallas! Pure escapism. I find it hard to watch current comedy TV - just not my thing - showing my age I suppose! And don't get me started on the soaps today. Corrie used to be a fab half hour of escapism but I find all the soaps now are desperately trying to show so many diverse and current issues that are often violent and depressing. I'm sure many will argue that they are relatable and showing current issues is important and I don't disagree but I do miss the old shows when life seemed so much more simple!

I agree with you (and I don't even live in the UK). I spend much of my TV viewing watching DVDs of my old favourite shows.

With M&S I used to fine nearly all their clothes could go in the tumble dryer. I didn’t mind paying a bit more than say primark purely for the convenience of that. But now I’m finding more and more can’t be tumbled dried. I think because they’re using cheaper fabric

Quality Street. I will never ever buy another box. Lucozade original, Henry Hoover, white goods. Literally the list goes on 🥲 I’ve lived in my own place for 12 years, in that time I’ve had to replace 2 tumble dryers, my washing machine, my fridge & my oven is on its last legs. My dad still has the same tumble dryer from when I was in primary school! I’m 31. His fridge he had since I was born & was still going until I was 22 & he only got rid as he was moving house. He had a Vax hoover that was older than I am 🤣

Nah have to disagree with you on lucozade original...SAVED MY LIFE recently when I was ill !

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 18/11/2024 05:09

Parenting - too much focus on being 'a friend' and letting your child be as rude as they like. Being a parent is a far more important role than just being a friend.

Toblerone - just doesn't taste the same and the price is ridiculous.

Window cleaning - ladder and a bucket were so much better than a brush on a pole.

Riapia · 18/11/2024 05:20

Patience seems to be so much scarcer nowadays.

Firefly1987 · 18/11/2024 05:43

Fairy liquid for sure, there are no bubbles....

All chocolate sucks now, but they've done something to my old fave Minstrels, used to melt in the mouth and were gorgeous. Now they're just crunchy, what few there even are in a packet! Galaxy plain chocolate is gross now, as is Cadburys obviously. Such a shame as I'm still addicted to the stuff but it's so disappointing 😩

Ocsober · 18/11/2024 06:59

Foy19 · 17/11/2024 13:34

@ocsober you shouldn't be on the roads. What would you do without your precious reversing cameras?

😂 I don’t reverse all the time, just when I’m slowing going into a parking space, or onto my drive.

I can assure you I drive forwards all other times.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 18/11/2024 08:28

Ribena - used to be thick and unctuous, delicious hot in the winter, now thin and more like squash than a cordial.

SisterMaryLuke · 18/11/2024 08:34

I went into M&S on Saturday looking for a cardigan and was shocked at the quality of the knitwear. It looked like it belonged in Primark, but at M&S prices. No offence meant to those that buy from Primark, but at least you're not paying over the odds for stuff.

Lentilweaver · 18/11/2024 08:36

I have long since started buying M and S and other mens woolies. Much better quality and higher wool content.

You don’t think the taste has changed? I still drink it, but it’s definitely not as nice as it use to be 😢

Simple Pure soap, reduced in size by about 20%, only foams for half of the bar. It's useless, utterly useless.

Peter Storm boots (from Millets), half price, bought two pairs, one pair lasted roughly 3 winter months before the soles literally fell off.

Chocolate

The clothes that have served me well are Bravissimo ones from years ago and M&S stuff pre 2018 - I've also got some fat face jersey pull on dresses/tops at least10 years old and still going strong . Even reasonably high end these days I think quality is much lower, fabric, finish, button/zip quality etc

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/11/2024 11:03

Re: chocolate - some bars are still OK but they're going up in price & have joined the ranks of 'never pay full price for this because it'll be on offer somewhere'. Green & Black's, Divine, Lindt & M&S dark chocolate are my usual ones.

Bravissimo clothing went downhill and then they stopped doing it. They said it wasn't selling...Well I used to be a keen customer but then they started doing the same three designs over and over, in nothing but black, white and navy, so I stopped buying.

Yes! It didn't surprise me when they stopped doing clothes as they kept churning out the same crap each season. I don't need a clingy dress I can buy that anywhere, I didn't want a wrap top that i had to wear a vest under. It was fitted clothes I wanted, proper fitted dresses, fitted tops and shirts. Fitted coats and jackets (my smart winter coat is from there).

They have an obsessive following though who don't like anyone saying anything negative about their beloved Bravissimo so anyone who had a criticism was bullied off their Facebook page and so they no longer get anything but praise.

Depressing thread. We should do one on things that have stayed the same but it may have 4 posts!

StrawberrySquash · 18/11/2024 13:15

I suspect with Fairy they've relabelled the old one to be Platinum and the normal one is a rubbish new one.

StrawberrySquash · 18/11/2024 13:40

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/11/2024 13:23

I honestly don't recognise what's being said about service in shops or behaviour of customers. Obviously there are always going to be some rude people, but I find shop assistants almost always smile and are polite. And I haven't witnessed any customer rudeness for ages. Maybe it's where I live (NW England, fairly rural area)?

I agree. The actual staff are mostly fine, with variation like you always got. But the lack of staff is very frustrating and means customer service levels have dropped.

roses2 · 18/11/2024 13:54

For take aways I go to restaurants where take away is their primary business and eat in I go to restaurants where there main trade is eat in.

Eat in the quality is roughly still decent quality although of course prices have risen a lot.

Take away quality has fallen drastically - not sure if it's because Uber Eats/Deliveroo take ridiculous 35% commission from the restaurants and so they are suffering more than eat in restaurants.

Many of these restaurants have minimum wage workers - I dread to think what is going to happen next year when minimum wage goes up.

Crikeyalmighty · 18/11/2024 14:50

@NonPlayerCharacter I think all mine are pre 2018 and I only buy black clothes in the main although I do have a silver sparkle wrap long top from there - so I was fine . Sad if the clothes went downhill as some of that earlier stuff was really good - nice thick fabric and fitted well
