I'll kick it off with Fairy Liquid!
Has anyone else noticed this? I have a dishwasher but often wash certain things, eg my big frying pan, by hand. You'd certainly need a mighty big squeeze these days, for a proper foamy lather.
Anything else? If nobody mentions Cadbury's chocolate, I will eat the Oodie I'm currently wearing Grin

Waitrose and M&S - used to be really special back in the day and always consistent quality (I'm talking 20 years ago plus) but I've been so disappointed with so much of their stuff recently- Aldi is better these days

MrsHemswoth · 17/11/2024 14:32

Also, white goods - doesn't last like it used to!

It would be easier to list things that haven’t gone down in quality. Hmmm. Might have to get back to you on that 😬

Full Fat Coke- still as good as ever!

Evorel Conti HRT patches (less sticky)

My DH recently decided to get rid of some of his boxers. I thought I’d give them a try and the quality is better than most of my knickers. I wonder if it’s worth looking at blokes’ clothing as a comparison too?

Try using men's unscented deodorant. Much stronger . Also men's socks are much thicker . They can be on the wide side though .

I buy men’s razors. They’re far superior to ‘women’s’ Razors

This is listed as a "pure cotton sweat" in M&S online.
Is that pure cotton polyester in the 34%?

"66% cotton, 34% polyester (exclusive of trimmings) , Ribbing - 95% cotton, 5% elastane"

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 17/11/2024 14:43

SmudgeButt · 17/11/2024 14:28

Jeans. If I'm buying jeans I want them to be denim which is a decent weight and at least 95% cotton not lightweight pale blue polyester.

I've just bought a pair from Superdry 100% organic cotton. They feel sturdy and heavy just like jeans should. Even on the 91% cotton skinny jeans you can feel the difference from my cheap jeans with about 70% cotton.

DisabledDemon · 17/11/2024 14:44

Definitely Cadbury's chocolate. It changed when they were taken over by Mondelez who replaced the more expensive items with palm oil, making the product greasy rather than rich.

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 17/11/2024 14:29

Eh? Why would you use a resource (your eyes) that see much less than another resource (a camera)?!

So you drive with a camera as well? Who knew - all those people who have been told they can't drive because of poor eyesight just need a camera.

No wonder driving standards have slipped if people are using cameras instead of their eyes.

You’re very very correct. I drink way more of that stuff than is healthy. But I hate and cannot drink anything with sweeteners so my options are very limited. Also (full fat) Cherry Coke is delicious.

I feel so sad that proper Irn Bru no longer exists.

Werecat · 17/11/2024 14:45

Clothing is a big issue. Quality is down (weight of fabric, stitching, cut, etc). I don’t buy much these days and refuse to pay much as more money doesn’t equal quality now.

Customer service is very variable. I find it ok in places like the cinema where I am greeted cheerfully and receive actual service. Bookshops are good too.

But I’ve realised that in shops like H&M im pissed off as a customer before I even meet a shop worker, because I can never find the right size and because I know that they’ll try to both get me to use self service and try to get my email address. So I go into any interaction now expecting confrontation. So I imagine I look pretty unhappy and pissed off. And they know the customers aren’t happy so they also expect confrontation. So they are spiky too…

So now I don’t go to shops. Saves all the aggro.

LuluBlakey1 · 17/11/2024 14:46

Everything manufactured in the UK or bought in from abroad to be sold to the general public is absolutely shit quality. Clothes, food, furniture, bedding, other fabric goods, electrical and mechanical goods, toys, IT, cars, jewellery. Vast majority of services too- building, plumbing whatever. Standards here are expensive, shoddy and shit unless you are very wealthy.

theDudesmummy · 17/11/2024 14:47

Oh, and Waitrose shops. Gone down awfully (I noticed this more as I don't live in the UK so when I visit I notice changes more than if you live with them every day). Last time I went into one (West End Lane West Hampstead) I didn't buy anything as the shop just felt dingy/dirty/downmarket.It even had a funny smell. Just left feeling faintly depressed. Waitrose used to be a guilty pleasure/treat.

Werecat · 17/11/2024 14:48

Restaurants are also variable. Some have become so soulless.

No but my car beeps when I reverse. If I didn’t have that I’d judge myself. But to claim people with reverse cameras are dangerous drivers is utterly insane.

Do you think that cameras are something people with poor eyesight get installer?

Think about it - if you have cameras that show all areas why would you avert your eyes to look at LESS than that?

Or are you one of these people who hates progress and thinks things were better when life was harder

PinkribbonBonnBonn · 17/11/2024 14:48

@EvilsElsasPetSnowman

Yes last much much longer

spanieleyes22 · 17/11/2024 14:48

Did you notice that cadburys are not allowed to call their bars chocolate as the cocoa solids are such a low percentage it doesn't qualify as real chocolate. They call the bars "dairymilk"🤣

They always called their bars dairy milk

Yes agreed. It's such a lot of money to go out and eat and the food is just not good quality unless you pay mega bucks. Last time I went out wit family was about 2 years ago and we went to pizza express. But everything was shoddy. No atmosphere. Bad service. Rearaurant half empty and actually. Cold!! Expensive. Just not worth it when you can buy a frozen pizza or make one for less than half the price . It's a shame. Used to love going out for food. But just can't find anywhere nice. That does good clean food with nice service and a good atmosphere.

Tiddlywinkly · 17/11/2024 14:52

Most things tbh.

Phones, white goods, chocolate, clothes.

Shout out for Cos. Their cashmere jumpers are a bit pricer at £155+ but no pilling, good thickness and no shrinkage after hand washing. Genuinely impressed after a recent re-order (and subsequent return) from Boden. Also Everlane (latter is American, but you can order online). Very transparent pricing and fantastic quality clothes. Lots of reviews help you to accurately guess sizing.

Bowfin' is West of Scotland.

Yes, I know. Person I know who routinely uses howfin' is also West (Coast) though. But I hear bowfin' a lot more generally.

ButterMints · 17/11/2024 14:54

The same people that brought us shrinkflation are now giving us enshittification.

It's not enough that they have made everything smaller / thinner / containing less. That hasn't increased their profit margins anywhere near enough. So now they are making everything poorer quality.

spanieleyes22 · 17/11/2024 14:55

Quality street!!! Wrappers are awful and they honestly taste rank. Most of them. They taste a bit like calpol! To me...

It had already changed before mondelez too.
I still remember getting a fruit and nit bar from a wall vending machine - with the purple foil on. It was the best taste ever
