To want my money back in my acct asap

Ordered a coat from a known French store (£295)

Been receiving update emails and it was due to be delivered today

Made sure to stay home and at 2 received a notification saying it has been delivered
It has not

I was home waiting. The doorbell is working. I did not have headphones on nor went shower just in case.

Sent the store an email demanding my money back. I don’t want to be re-sent the same item and I don’t want store credit either.
I know it is not their fault but it us not mine either. I kept my end of the bargain which was to pay and stay home to open the door.

Now will have to go out and see if I find a coat somewhere as I plan to wear it tomorrow.

Where do I stand? Anyone been through similar?

You have the right to return items bought online due to distance selling regulations.

When it's delivered, just do the returns process and say it arrived too late.

If you paid for delivery today specifically, then you can probably ask for that to be refunded.

What courier has it?

Again. It’s not called that anymore

for info. It’s now called the consumer contracts regulations!

ReginaPhalange92 · 16/11/2024 17:33

This happened to me recently. I rang the delivery company and they rang the driver. Turns out he delivered it to the wrong street so they told him to fetch it and deliver it to the right house. My parcel was delivered to me about 2 hours after my phonecall. Ring the delivery company and see what they say.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 16/11/2024 17:33

Sometimes we get this, for some reason the postie hasn't yet delivered, but it is marked as such and arrives the next working day.

Nomdejeur · 16/11/2024 15:47

You need to take it up with the courier.

Incorrect.

you need to take it up with who the contract is with which will be the retailer. It is up to the retailer to then contact the courier.

Sorry OP but it’s not gonna happen today. You’ll have to raise it with the shop and they can take a while to resolve it with the courier. Even then they may not side with you - the Evri guy nicked my parcel but put it on the doorstep first and photographed it, I just lost my money. Did the courier take a photo of where they delivered it to ?

How do you know it was the very guy that nicked if? And if you have evidence of that why didn’t that secure a refund or go to police?

I have had this with Evri as well - silently delivered the parcel (did not ring the doorbell), took a photo and took it back to their van. Anything worth over £20 can get nicked.

Loads of issues with them delivering to just anywhere but the address. Someone found a parcel just by the side of the road in our village.

I ordered a coffee table last week from eBay, Like you I waited in all day then suddenly got an email saying it had just been delivered. No knock at the door, door camera didn't go off etc just an email saying it had arrived. I looked outside anyway on the off chance it was out there.

Contacted eBay right away to say I didn't have it, they checked the tracking and it said delivered on their end.

Next day had a knock on the door from dpd with my table, when I told him about already having the delivery email the previous day he said sometimes if they know they won't have time to deliver it that day they will mark it as delivered and drop it off the next day, maybe something like that has happened and you might get it Monday?

Ponderingwindow · 16/11/2024 18:00

For medical reasons, almost everything I purchase is delivered. I got 5 packages yesterday with banal items.

couriers lie and mark items delivered in advance all the time. They don’t want to get dinged for late delivery. The package shows up the next delivery day.

packages get delivered to the wrong address all the time. Most of the time somewhere nearby. If you have a neighborhood chat, get on there and see if anyone has mentioned your package. If not, ask if anyone has it.

most businesses will insist on resending the item, but occasionally will make an exception. You can read the shipping policies on the website to learn this particular companies policies. If an exception comes, it is likely to be offered easily. I’ve never fought for one. It will be things like my package seems to have gotten lost in customs given how long it has been there and they give me a choice to resend or cancel. With a delivery reported, they are less likely to want to cancel because it’s more likely you are scamming.

if you get a lot of deliveries or purchase expensive items, it is worth getting a doorbell camera. We have been able to use that as evidence with companies in particular circumstances.

Havalona · 16/11/2024 18:08

I'm going to sound like I'm giving you a right telling off, but here goes....

Never ever order something to be delivered the day before you absolutely need it. You could have ordered the coat two weeks ago. (Awaits plaintiff cries of but, but, but). Online ordering and delivery are hit and miss, I wouldn't take the chance.

As a matter of interest, are all the coats/jackets that you own completely threadbare, or do you not have any others to wear tomorrow? Again, you left it too late to guarantee delivery.

The parcel will arrive later on or tomorrow morning. Well I hope so otherwise you will freeze.

The only unreasonable thing going on here is to expect quality legal advice in AIBU 😀

I don't think OP was expecting quality legal advice, more just venting. But in any case , she has excellent legal advice at 15::31 from @Bellaboot

scotstars · 16/11/2024 18:14

Did the courier email proof of delivery ie signature or photo? Some don't and as others have said you get an email saying it's delivered then it turns up next day.
You won't get an immediate refund as the company will have to investigated with the courier company.
Just a little tip having worked in customer service you usually get better service when you are reasonable - when you demand and are irate over something the company have no control over many service assistants will be less inclined to help....

housethatbuiltme · 16/11/2024 18:19

Check the delivery photo... they probably delivered it to some random house.

Just had this, the claimed they delivered it with a photo of it on the ground outside a random house with a terracotta porch... no houses here even have porches.

Yodel are terrible just say they delivered it as per the GPS... they don't check addresses just follow a satnav and throws it out where ever that says even if its nowhere near the actual delivery address.

NewDaye · 16/11/2024 18:25

This might sound obvious but what does the tracking say? Sometimes they send a photo with where it was left. You haven’t said you have checked outside or with neighbours, just that no one knocked on your door.

Silvertulips · 16/11/2024 18:33

Anyone been through similar?

no, no one, no one has ever stayed in for a delivery and for it not to be delivered.

godmum56 · 16/11/2024 18:41

I can remember when delivery was 28 days from ordering and you couldn't do a thing about a refund until 28 days had passed, then it could take 28 days to get your money back AND no tracking!

bevelino · 16/11/2024 18:49

EvilsElsasPetSnowman · 16/11/2024 15:08

This is why I only get things delivered to stores and lockers now

I agree and it is quite risky as delivery drivers either leave with a neighbor, who then lie about receiving the parcel or the delivery drivers don’t bother to deliver at all.

MeatPotatos · 16/11/2024 18:55

Maybe around the same time when you would see a delivery person standing right in front of you and actually hand it to your hands or somebody else in your house that looked liked an adult

This new trend of living parcels on door steps, porches, by the bins etc is just wrong

The tracking says it was left on my safe place - I never ever stipulated a safe place. Ever.
There is a photo of a random door showing a door number that is not my door number.
I don’t recognise the door from being around here and I don’t think I should go out looking and knocking.

The carrier is Royal Mail and the shop is Sézane

I couldn’t find another coat that I like so decided to wear one that I already have - will change the planned outfit up a bit, it doesn’t matter.

I guess it is extra annoying when you pay good money. In my case 295 is a lot and I haven’t bought a new coat in ages, so I was really looking forward to this one.

Don’t you do a lot of online shopping? The courier has probably ran out of time and marked it as delivered, it will probably turn up. They are under enormous time pressure.

Dearover · 16/11/2024 19:02

Royal Mail uses GPS to track deliveries. If the accidentally deliver to the wrong address, you need to tell them. They can then try to retrieve the parcel.

Of course the co. won't refund you immediately. They will initially assume you're pulling a fast one, as so many others do. They will only refund after liaising with Royal Mail

I do and my Evri guy is fantastic
Royal mail is good too

DHL is horrendous

You can track via Royal Mail app (or presumably on their website) - as well as the photo there'll be map coordinates as parcels are GPS tracked.

it shows delivered and a photo of the box on a floor, the door is closed - no one is receiving it - could well get stolen - or the person who lives there could keep it

it also says it is my ‘safe place’

I guess the person who lives there was not at home

I was😭

If the parcel has not arrived/ has gone missing OP has a right to a refund. But it is unlikely to show in your account the same day.

If it has not been delivered 1) to your address and 2) handed to you and 3) you did not ask them to deliver to a safe/ alternative place - then the parcel has not been delivered and it is the responsibility of the retailer.

Ask for your money back, they can then claim the money back from the courier (they are the customer of Royal Mail etc. not you).
