To want my money back in my acct asap

Ordered a coat from a known French store (£295)

Been receiving update emails and it was due to be delivered today

Made sure to stay home and at 2 received a notification saying it has been delivered
It has not

I was home waiting. The doorbell is working. I did not have headphones on nor went shower just in case.

Sent the store an email demanding my money back. I don’t want to be re-sent the same item and I don’t want store credit either.
I know it is not their fault but it us not mine either. I kept my end of the bargain which was to pay and stay home to open the door.

Now will have to go out and see if I find a coat somewhere as I plan to wear it tomorrow.

Where do I stand? Anyone been through similar?

But where does it say it was delivered to and is there a picture or signature

lawlessland · 16/11/2024 15:18

They'll need to investigate and track the parcel before they'll refund as the store will likely need to claim from the carrier.

Was there a photo of where it had been delivered or has it gone to a neighbour?

Timeforabiscuit · 16/11/2024 15:17

You need to follow the complaints process - do you know which courier they used? Some are better than others, but can't see any reason to panic as yet.

Are you anxious as it's a big purchase?

Mainly because I wanted for tomorrow and now need to buy something else before receiving the refund and not knowing if they will actually refund or send another coat instead - so I will end up with two coats - probably similar colour / style

The evidence is the email from the carrier that it has been delivered - I sent them a screenshot

Has it been delivered next door? If you don't recognise the location (or even if you do but can't retrieve it) they'll occasionally ask the corrier to try and retrieve and redeliver or they'll just refund you

GRex · 16/11/2024 15:19

Have you checked outside and asked neighbours? We've had things put behind the bin when we are home, just because the driver wants to do that. I've also had Amazon delivery notifications with the parcel arriving a couple of hours later, the courier just checked them all before delivery.

Anyway, wildly unreasonable to want an instant refund when the parcel may turn up today and the company need to verify status. Next time buy stuff at least a week before you need it.

Tell them you don't want them to replace it and if they do return it

MeatPotatos · 16/11/2024 15:16

Yes I know will not be today, probably they will refund in one week or two but the point is - I don’t want the item sent again and I don’t want store credit - can I have the actual money back in this circunstance? I will need the money back at some point to cover the purchase I will do today - hopefully.

Generally there will be a delivery window when you order, if they are inside that (eg they said within 7 days and this is day 4) then the still have 3 days to deliver it. Just because the first attempt went wrong I doubt you can just cancel the order unless they are outside the time period they stated when you ordered.
Does the company offer free returns?

PiggyPigalle · 16/11/2024 15:21

Does the delivered note say whether to you, a safe place or what?

ThinWomansBrain · 16/11/2024 15:29

Hasn't happened as much recently, but I often get notifications or see on tracking that a parcel has been delivered, or a missed delivery then there's been no such thing - then at about 3am the trackings change, earlier ones are wiped and it states the item returned to depot, will be delivered the following day/week/whenever they can be arsed

If that happens I report to the seller and ask if they have alternative couriers, because I won't be using them again until they switch from xyz couriers (let's face it, usually evri)

Bellaboot · 16/11/2024 15:31

If they send you another coat just return it via the returns process and you'll get a refund. The distance selling act enforces refund for change of mind. They can't just decide to give you a store credit for an online purchase.

DoublePasta · 16/11/2024 15:33

I just had a parcel delivered at 2pm today that I had an email to say was delivered on Thursday.

Dearg · 16/11/2024 15:34

I had similar this week. Emailed the seller , and they sent a replacement- got it 2 days later.
It is their liability and they will take it up with their carrier. You will either get a replacement coat or your money back. No store credit.
Its annoying, but it will get fixed.

GermanBite · 16/11/2024 15:34

You have the right to return items bought online due to distance selling regulations.

When it's delivered, just do the returns process and say it arrived too late.

If you paid for delivery today specifically, then you can probably ask for that to be refunded.

What courier has it?

Disaranno · 16/11/2024 15:35

Based on the title and main contents of your post. YABU.
Your lack of planning isn't the store's problem. Deliveries get sent to the wrong place, delayed etc all the time. The onus isn't on the store to refund you ASAP simply because you need it urgently.
The only way to ensure that is order well in advance, or go and buy one in-store.

If your questions was about wanting a refund instead of store credit, a re-delivery... well, that's another question. If you didn't receive the goods you should get your money back.

Again, not immediately.

SerendipityJane · 16/11/2024 15:36

The only unreasonable thing going on here is to expect quality legal advice in AIBU 😀

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 16/11/2024 15:36

You need to contact the courier first, say it hasn't been delivered, get them to look into it

OzzyTheBullSnortedAtMe · 16/11/2024 15:37

Has it come from outside the UK? Sometimes the updates aren't in sync. I had something coming from the US and it said 'Delivered'on the tracker but had only been delivered to the local sorting office and it came the next day.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 16/11/2024 15:38

You need to check the seller's terms and conditions for returns to find out whether you get money or store credit. Are you in France? You said a French store. Pre-Covid, store credit was common for returns in France, but cash is more readily given now (at least by the stores I use).

StandingSideBySide · 16/11/2024 15:39

MeatPotatos · 16/11/2024 15:14

It has been delivered as per the carrier update email - but not to me and not to my house

Ask the courier to send an 8mage of their delivery.
It may be with a neighbour
Appreciate that’s not the point…it’s just a suggestion as you want something today for tomorrow

Disaranno · 16/11/2024 15:39

Or people who can actually read the AIBU.
OP isn't asking for legal advice (well not exactly). She's asking whether her expectation of getting a delivery email, but no goods, entitles her to an immediate refund.
This is obviously U, why should anybody take her word for it. Company needs to investigate.

AmberFawn · 16/11/2024 15:42

I’ve had this before OP, but not with something as expensive or that I needed so quickly. It’s incredibly irritating I know.
The retail company will usually now have to get the delivery company to now investigate where the parcel is, which takes time, and only after that and their findings will they even start to process a refund. I’d guess you’re in for a wait to get the money back unfortunately.

PaminaMozart · 16/11/2024 15:44

Have you actually contacted the courier company to establish what might have happened to your parcel?

Nothing is going to happen today though. You may have to be patient till Monday.

Whilst I don’t agree with OP demanding a refund immediately this problem is not down to her lack of planning. OP ordered a coat which was supposed to arrive before she needed it (so she did plan quite well), the problem is the courier has either delivered to wrong address, lost the parcel or marked as delivered and is going to deliver the parcel late. It is now OPs problem but it’s not her lack of planning

Nomdejeur · 16/11/2024 15:47

You need to take it up with the courier.

NearlyChristmas2024 · 16/11/2024 15:48

I bought a jacket about two years ago and it just never arrived. After weeks and weeks of calling and emails they finally refunded me, it was so annoying.
