DH talking about divorce over air fryer

booklady1990 · 16/11/2024 00:01

Just had a really disappointing chat with DH tonight. I want to borrow an airfryer for our babyshower next weekend and he just didn't seem interested at all, and even brought up divorce! AIBU to be upset by this?? not sure why its gone bold

What would happen if you said you wanted to buy an fryer… instead of borrowing

Hmmm. DH and I argued this morning and I’ve considering an airfrier. Maybe this is the thread I need today.

dont waste your time with a single basket, you’ll regret it and want the double in a few weeks.

I imagine they’d be straight to the judge for an annullment

Howled at this.
OPs meed to borrow an airfryer is clearly indicative of a 200 degree heating source in her life that her husband is failing to provide?

Yep, my money is on this being a heat issue.

I’ve also considered the air fryer could be a symbol of the baby not yet here. Same size (ish), takes up a lot of space, people will ooh ahh over it, and might love it more than him.

Air fryer is a THREAT.

Well, perhaps he just wasn’t interested in an air fryer, (many people aren't), or a baby shower, and just wanted to change the subject. 🤷‍♀️

RunnersHipOuch · 16/11/2024 09:26

Eh? If divorce is being discussed, it's definitely not just about the air fryer!

WonderingWanda · 16/11/2024 09:38

Is he not interested in the baby shower? Not interested in the airfryer? Is he really against airfryers for some reason. Or was he just tired, a bit dismissive and then you created an argument because he wasn't interested enough in your baby shower plans and he huffing said something about divorce. Or were you asking permission to hire an airfryer because he is so controlling? Context is everything here so its hard to know if he was being unreasonable, abusive or just a bit at the end of his tether.

As others have said, relationships with men who regularly dismiss your ideas and who threatene divorce regularly as a way to control or make you insecure should be avoided at all costs.

However, a one time, off the cuff comment in a jokey way or in a tired arguement, something like "oh ffs, get off my case...maybe if I'm such a dick we should get a divorce" type comment might be more of a red flag for your own behaviour rather than his.

Only you know what really happened and haven't given us enough details really. But maybe some of people's comments here will help you reflect on which scenario yours is.

Buy the liners and enforce their use and cleaning is a doddle!

I find the liners curl up too much. They do help with keeping it cleaner though.

Oh, the ad placement made me laugh.

He doesn't love you OP.
LTB.
If he loved you he'd have bought you an air fryer.

AlohaRose · 16/11/2024 10:00

I need to know why you want an air fryer for a baby shower?! Isn't it usually just cupcakes and teeny tiny sandwiches and fruit platters etc at baby showers?

PurebredRacingUnicorn · 16/11/2024 10:15

Does he belong to a religion which prohibits the use of air fryers or other small auxiliary cooking devices?

mrpotatocat · 16/11/2024 10:17

OhshutupSimonyounobhead · 16/11/2024 05:54

Are you pregnant and drunk?

It’s full moon

mrpotatocat · 16/11/2024 10:20

Did he perhaps read the article about air fryers spying on you? What does he not want the Chinese to know is my question.

What I really want to know is are air fryers really that good?
They take up a lot of room on the kitchen worktop and I only have a small kitchen. That's my concern.
But if they're as good as everyone says they are then I think I'd maybe compromise.
Is the appeal that they make food taste better or that they're fast food?

My ASD son loves his little air fryer, cooks all sorts of delicious food for his dinner😀 Really cost efficient compared to the main oven.

isthismylifenow · 16/11/2024 10:22

Never borrow an airfryer.

I used my Dad's about 10 years ago, and still haven't given it back.

It's one of those items that just get claimed.

Like a salad bowl left at a bbq.

Totally missed the point of the thread though I think.

JayniSummers · 16/11/2024 10:26

Is this also a gender reveal ? Blue chips in one or pink fluffy roast potatoes in the other , both standing near each drawer being filmed on the big reveal ? TBF ,that still won't be the worse I seen

Obimumkinobi · 16/11/2024 10:27

I mentioned this thread to my equally disinterested DH, who looked up from his newspaper and said "I suppose you want me to hire you an airfryer for Christmas now, don't you?!" 😀

Timetoread · 16/11/2024 10:27

Come on, you know it's not really about the air frier, is it?

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 16/11/2024 10:29

FetchezLaVache · 16/11/2024 01:12

You can borrow my air fryer! You can borrow my husband too if you like. I'd only really want the air fryer back.

This made me laugh WAY too hard!

On another note, which air fryer is best? Why are they so invaluable? What am I missing?

I have been hesitant to get an air fryer after jumping on the George Foreman bandwagon, the indoor grill bandwagon and the electric rotisserie bandwagon. All fun to use and all horrible, horrible, horrible to clean.

Lifeglowup · 16/11/2024 10:30

Thanks. I was wondering about that. There is one veggie in the family so I often cook a veggie and non veggie version so I’m not sure if it would work for us.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 16/11/2024 10:34

I truly hope the OP returns to the thread for clarification of what happened.

Is this a continuing behavior or a one-off? How is he the majority of the time?
Is he critical of you daily or weekly? Are you critical of him?

Details are needed.

JawsCushion · 16/11/2024 11:01

An attempt at wind them up and watch them go thread.

Oh, the ad placement made me laugh.

I second the two basket design - can cook sausages and bacon in the large pan and chips/hashbrowns in the other (enough for two-three, done in less than 15mins with a quick rinse in soapy water)… husband just plating up now!

DH is such a convert that sadly for the ILs, they are all getting one this Christmas. 🤦🏽‍♀️

100% I started with the ninja foodie but had to add a dual basket one after a few months.
I wouldn't lend them out though.
