DH talking about divorce over air fryer

booklady1990 · 16/11/2024 00:01

Just had a really disappointing chat with DH tonight. I want to borrow an airfryer for our babyshower next weekend and he just didn't seem interested at all, and even brought up divorce! AIBU to be upset by this?? not sure why its gone bold

Sounds like there's something stressful happening behind the scenes

Is someone really going to lend you their air fryer??

I lent my air fryer recently. And to my MIL! 😁

What is the back story OP?
We need to know.

Is he gonna see the air fryer on the counter and be like:
“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die"

Or is something else at play?
Does he think they're work of the devil? Cast thee out of my kitchen evil spawn satan etc.

Baby shower. Air fryer.
Nope. Not seeing the connection here.

My answer would be ... Don't have a baby shower (dear God, don't do it) but get an air fryer anyway. Yay! Tell DH if he doesn't like the air fryer, he knows where the door is. Enjoy the rest of your life with lovely homemade chips and shit.

Is that what you cook in your air fryer 😱?

LBFseBrom · 16/11/2024 08:20

I can understand he wouldn't be interested, it's hardly an important issue. It wouldn't interest me! However it doesn't sound like a straw to break the camel's back. Is he very stressed about things generally? He shouldn't pass that on to you, you're pregnant; you need to talk to each other, calmly.

Why not just buy an air fryer rather than borrow one? They are not expensive (I looked on Amazon). I don't have one but I know people who think they are great (my son does). It's worth buying if you are going to get good use out of it.

We thought she was bats, but we love her, so if she wanted to borrow the air fryer to cater a party we weren't going to stand in her way.

I know, I know. I'll see myself out.

Did the air fryer kill his father?

The air fryer is his father

BunnyLake · 16/11/2024 08:33

Some weird threads today already. I’ve only just stopped being baffled by the sleeping on the kerb one, now this.

Remind me of the tales of Darth Fryer and Luke Breville.. with their mates Han SmegFridge and CheweyBacon.

To be fair, we once had an extraordinarily heated argument about the current Lord Snowden when he was Viscount Linley. Someone might have mentioned divorce or maybe I thought that was where it was all heading.

We got over it. Still together.

Lol.! And you're having a baby with him?

LittleGreenDragons · 16/11/2024 08:49

SamPoodle123 · 16/11/2024 07:30

It sounds like your husband is getting overwhelmed by it all. Perhaps planning for the baby shower is pushing him over the edge. Maybe he is stressing about the baby to come, how to support etc. Or maybe doubts about the relationship. It does not sound like the airfryer is the cause here...hopefully he snaps out of it!

Since when do men plan baby showers? I doubt he's getting overwhelmed with it all unless she's having it at home and he wants to watch football or something.

OP - if he's giving you an ultimatum then please choose the airfryer as it will make your life easier and not harder, unlike him.

BackOnTheAntibiotics · 16/11/2024 08:50

Love that an advert for air fryers is flashing all over this thread.

CautiousLurker1 · 16/11/2024 08:51

T4phage · 16/11/2024 00:08

To be honest, airfryers are often more useful than husbands, so I'd stick with the airfryer.

LOL my 16yo persuaded me to buy one when DH was away. DH rolled his eyes at yet another piece of tat cluttering the kitchen counter… except that it is now used 3+ times a day by both him and teens now, reduced our electricity bills and got both teens cooking their own meals independently so he is an absolute convert now. A £60 item that has been a brilliant buy for us.

If they could just make a model that is self-cleaning I’d be as happy as everyone else…

BackOnTheAntibiotics · 16/11/2024 08:51

I would divorce him if he showed an interest in air fryers to be honest. Now that would be a red flag.

Same. We should get the psycho-analyst poster from that thread over here then we can all discuss how the warmth from the air-dryer is a symbolism for the lack of warmth in DH’s heart.

Buy the liners and enforce their use and cleaning is a doddle!

But in all seriousness op, what happened. Are you ok. Because this isn’t a normal thing to say and you’re pregnant so more vulnerable right now. Is he normally demanding / controlling?

I can actually see how this conversation may have developed.
OP informed her husband of her plans. Husband didn't show sufficient interest (who would?!). OP accused him of all sorts based on his lack of interest. There were probably tears and shouting. He then got a bit fed up with the level of drama over a non-event. This is where the divorce came up.

Howled at this.
OPs meed to borrow an airfryer is clearly indicative of a 200 degree heating source in her life that her husband is failing to provide?

Lifeglowup · 16/11/2024 09:15

Hmmm. DH and I argued this morning and I’ve considering an airfrier. Maybe this is the thread I need today.
