DH talking about divorce over air fryer

booklady1990 · 16/11/2024 00:01

Just had a really disappointing chat with DH tonight. I want to borrow an airfryer for our babyshower next weekend and he just didn't seem interested at all, and even brought up divorce! AIBU to be upset by this?? not sure why its gone bold

If i came in from work and you tried to engage me in coversation about borrowing an air fryer i would ignore you as well to be fair. What is there to say further than “im borrowing an airfryer from x”

Why be married to someone you can’t tolerate talking to? Profoundly weird and hostile way to live.

To be honest, airfryers are often more useful than husbands, so I'd stick with the airfryer.

😂😂😂

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 16/11/2024 06:48

Are you threatening to borrow the air fryer off your hunky ex or something? Struggling to comprehend how you veered from cooking insert fried food of choice to divorce.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 16/11/2024 06:59

I’m not struggling to understand

This is the ‘leaving the cup on the side, not putting it in the dishwasher’ but with a different utensil.

It’s the catalyst for talk of divorce (because it’s the straw that broke) but not the real cause. Just like leaving a cup on the side isn’t a divorce issue, but years of selfish behaviour and expecting someone else always to clear up after them very much is. And it can be a little incident that shows you that you can’t go on

(IIRC, there was a whole thread here about this phenomenon not so long ago)

What I really want to know is are air fryers really that good?
They take up a lot of room on the kitchen worktop and I only have a small kitchen. That's my concern.
But if they're as good as everyone says they are then I think I'd maybe compromise.
Is the appeal that they make food taste better or that they're fast food?

They take up less room than a husband I think?

SamPoodle123 · 16/11/2024 07:30

It sounds like your husband is getting overwhelmed by it all. Perhaps planning for the baby shower is pushing him over the edge. Maybe he is stressing about the baby to come, how to support etc. Or maybe doubts about the relationship. It does not sound like the airfryer is the cause here...hopefully he snaps out of it!

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 16/11/2024 07:32

Ok well there's clearly a metric fucktonne of info missing between "airfryer for babyshower" and "divorce" so hopefully op will come back and fill us in.

RaspberryCombat · 16/11/2024 07:34

Were you planning some kind of very dangerous air-fryer-based gender reveal?

Jk987 · 16/11/2024 07:35

You don't need his approval to borrow the air fryer. Just go ahead surely? He doesn't need to take an interest in it! Cook what you like, how you like!

Luddite26 · 16/11/2024 06:09

Funny that all the adverts on this thread are for air fryers on black Friday!
Although I have 3 so don't need another yet!

OP LTB.

Now I need to know - why 3?!

Bahhhhhumbug · 16/11/2024 07:50

Who the feck 'borrows' an air fryer ¿

Lindjam · 16/11/2024 07:50

So many questions!

Why are you telling MN you’re having a baby shower. You know we think they’re cringe.

Why do you need an air fryer for baby shower?

Why did you need to discuss this with DH?

How did the convo leap from “I am borrowing Amy’s air fryer” to “I want to divorce my pregnant wife.”

Hollowvoice · 16/11/2024 07:53

I really need to know what happened between "borrow an air fryer" and "divorce"

Womblewife · 16/11/2024 07:53

Now I need to know - why 3?!

I am addicted to QVC.
I bought the first Ninja because my oven is terrible and the cost of living crisis/energy crisis was looming and it has massively cut down electricity costs.
Then my DD has had 2 more boys since so I ended more cooking space and QVC had a side by side Cook works for £60 so I took the plunge then they had the new ninja on a tsv I think it's a tower. It was a good buy as I succumbed.
I sound very sad but there are six of us every day and more sometimes I never use the old oven which used to take over an hour to cook oven chips!

MaryBeardsShoes · 16/11/2024 07:55

Sorry, we can only manage one problem at a time. So is it the issue with your husband, or the formatting?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 16/11/2024 07:58

Either there's a lot of backstory to this and/or your husband is unhinged and/or he already wanted to divorce you anyway. Hard to tell from the OP tbh.

crockofshite · 16/11/2024 08:00

Is the divorce idea because of the air fryer, or due to the conversation that took place?

ManhattanPopcorn · 16/11/2024 08:01

He didn't bring up divorce over sometime that he "just didn't seem interested" in. What really happened?

GoldenPheasant · 16/11/2024 08:01

Is this a dream you had, OP?

OohShakiraShakira · 16/11/2024 08:02

I'm a bit hungover and this is all so surreal that I don't know if I'm hallucinating

Oniya · 16/11/2024 08:04

Is this another thread by a pissed person at midnight? I’ve just read “DH left me by the kerb”.

Now we’ve got air-fryer-baby-shower-catalyst-for-divorce-gate and OPs response is it was a “disappointing conversation”.

Eh?

OohShakiraShakira · 16/11/2024 08:02

You didnt happen to offer to lend anyone your airfryer for their upcoming baby shower when you were drunk last night, did you?

Sassybooklover · 16/11/2024 08:07

I can only assume that the divorce part was a joke 'If you borrow an air fryer, I'm divorcing you'!! Why do you need to borrow an air fryer for a baby shower???! Is it really that important to cook using an air fryer?! He's probably more bemused by the whole conversation.

AirborneElephant · 16/11/2024 08:08

Well, I don’t think my DH would be remotely “interested” in my desire to borrow a kitchen appliance. I’m intrigued how the discussion jumped from that to divorce, I assume there’s a much longer story here somewhere?
