Are the Democrats moving away from 'woke' in the wake of last week's results? Is it nothing, is she not an ally anymore? Aibu to wonder what it signals?

Had a quick look and the majority of dems no longer show their pronouns in their bios. Am assuming that is a departure from previous party line, but am very surprised AOC as dropped them. She and Bernie Sanders were/are the marxist contingent of the Dems.

Maybe because anyone with two brain cells knows what her pronouns are, and it's taken a while for her to work this out. Be gentle on her. She isn't the brightest communist out there.

Bernie Sanders is distancing himself pretty firmly from the current Democrat party though; he's publicly criticised them, he's been on the Rogan show, and I have a feeling he even said something mildly complimentary about Elon Musk. Seems that maybe all is not well in leftie-land...

I saw something on TikTok the other day that AOC had some of the data back from the election and realized that a lot of people in her… district? had voted for her, and for Trump. She took to Instagram (I think?) and opened an anonymous story asking people to tell her why they had voted for both her and Trump because she wanted to understand. It seems like a lot of people actually felt that they came from similar backgrounds/were more alike than they realized. I’ve only lived in the US for ~5 years but I found it really fascinating.

A few years ago I taught a class at an American university that had a requirement of writing a lengthy essay on a current issue/topic. My class had a bunch of student athletes because it was at a time that didn’t interfere with their practices. Almost every single one of the boys wanted to write about protecting women’s sports from biologically male participants. They felt VERY strongly about it and all of them had enough knowledge to list off a bunch of reasons off the cuff, including statistics on strength in men vs women. I was honestly impressed. I don’t think the Democrats realized how many young people felt about this issue.

That is really interesting about those young men. I noticed this while leafletting in a town centre about getting an online petition signed to table the discussion about the language in the equality act. A few young men took a leaflet and mentioned woman’s sports. They were well informed about it.

They were talking about this on the radio but I didn’t hear the end as I went to collect a prescription. They said something about Balanciaga as well. On googling it appeared this happened some time ago. Was this in the wake of the advert scandal?

The Balenciaga scandal was about children being used in images that would interest paedos eg a child holding a teddy dressed in bondage gear. It was a couple of years ago but seems to have been forgotten.

I might not agree with every one of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's opinions and policies, but on a human level I think she absolutely rocks.

I’ve also seen that a GB News presenter (Andrew Doyle) has taken up a position teaching on the dangers of ‘woke’ at a university in Florida. There’s a lot of money in telling about ‘woke’.

There are also posts about ‘the left’ and how bad they are. It’s an obsession. I hardly ever see threads started on the ‘anti-woke’ or ‘the right’ for some reason.

Meanwhile back in real life, Robert F Kennedy the vaccine denier, has been put in charge of healthcare (so welcome back long since gone diseases), Musk has been put in charge of efficiency and wants people to work for him for free on his plan to fire much of the state, in addition Matt Geatz who gave a 17 year old girl drugs, trafficked her across state lines to take to sex parties and admitted to drugging other women has been picked as Attorney General. A woman (can’t recall name) who’s been long suspected as being a Russian asset has also been given a top job.

But yes AOCs pronouns on X are the issue of the day according to the self styled ‘concerned moral majority’ .

i live in a house where my two teens are very into politics. Eldest is obsessed with American politics. We have CNN playing as our default tv channel constantly (I have to have noise in the background to work properly). I had absolutely no idea who the OP was referring to.
