Why are people boycotting Boots? Are you?

1000 replies

Deadbeatex · 14/11/2024 18:30

For full disclosure I haven't seen the advert yet, but I'll probably end up searching for it if I don't come across it naturally during viewing in the next few days.

I've seen the #boycottboots and have worked out it's to do with their new Christmas ad. What's the issue? Are you boycotting Boots or do you think people are overreacting?

Randomly choosing the poll options simply because as stated I've not seen the ad so I don't currently have an opinion either way

YABU I'm boycotting
YANBU it's an overreaction

It is people like you who tried to ruin a friends life a few weeks back. She was doxed, her employers contacted to try and get her sacked, her children's schools were contacted. All because a small dicked transphobic man decided to tell the internet she was a man, not a woman. I am SO sick of your "side" right now.

Seriously, I am all out of -'s to give. Your side sees women abused and shouted at and assaulted at rallies, withdrawing from participating in society because our single sex facilities are removed. Our girls withdrawing from sport because they know there is no point, a male will take their spot. Losing our jobs because we dare to defend our rights.
So cry me a river! Maybe we'll care more about your side when your side stops violating, infiltrating and colonising and eroding the spaces and boundaries women have, an threatening not just our livelihoods but our actual lives just for defending our most basic human rights. Your side is not the victim here, so stop gaslighting and DARVO.

No vein throbbing, no need to lie down. Just utterly sick of of the anti-trans movement who tried to ruin the life of a good friend and her children. Just because a man decided she didn't match his ideas of what a woman should look like. Why???

And we are sick of the anti-feminist movement that is out to ruin the lives of the vulnerable and oppressed sex class just to suit male born people's fetishes. Your side started this war. Not us. Take some some responsibility. Females just want to be left alone in peace to live our lives in our female only single sex facilities and sex-based rights.

What IS my side? I am very much middle of road on it. You don't know my views. I have spoken on MN before about how instead of just posting angrily on the internet I actually got involved with a sporting body to develop guidelines to protect women in sport. I can do this while also have trans friends and colleagues.

But you saying it perfectly acceptable for a man (yes, a man) to try and ruin someone's life because they have decided they are a man? You think it's OK for grown adults on the internet to encourage people to bully someone's children because, again, a man has decided she isn't the perfect image of barbie? If it's all about protecting our daughters, where was this protection when a man with hundreds of thousands of followers on twitter encouraged people to bully my friends daughters?

Classy.

You are making many many assumptions about me. How about you actually get up and try and make change outside of the internet? Without attacking and abuse, but working with organisations to develop fair and inclusive policies. Ones that keep everyone safe?

No, I don't think any of that is ok.

But you don't get it. It's not because your friend "isn't the perfect image of barbie", its because they are a male. That's why. Mocking women. And most likely using womens spaces and facilities, that causes women to withdraw from society. Unless your friend is one of the good decent transwomen (and there are several of these good decent ones, they're just drowned out by the boundary-crossing TRAs) who does not use any female spaces. In which case, good on them for doing the right thing.

If the woman who said it was white she might be thought ineptly woke, but there wouldn't be a basis for a boycott! In any case she wasn't criticising white people, only a particular nationally recognised family for only having white members. That doesn't mean she dislikes the existing members, just she'd like to see some new ones. I think you have to be really determined to see that as racist.

For instance, when Meghan Markle was married into the royal family quite a lot of people remarked that it was quite nice that they had a black royal. As we know, it didn't work out; but the people who remarked it was quite nice weren't all rounded up and accused of evil racism against white people.

Seeing as my friend has given birth to three children, I am pretty sure it's because an obnoxious man decided she wasn't the perfect image of femininity.

I didn't attack anyone though. And there are now too many posts to go through and find out which one I copied.. so I apologise if I mis-credited the copy and paste, and it was someone else and not you.

Thankyou @JusteanBiscuits

I've also had a DM with information about my deleted post. Apologies for a very wrongly worded post as I couldn't understand why it was removed. It should have been ..."does not make her racist". I suffer mild aphasia and sometimes I don't catch where I have used the wrong words - especially when posting on my phone quickly. So I do apologise for that.

You did in fact. On the post that MNHQ have taken down now so I’m not discussing your comment any more.

Apologies about that last post I made just now, I’m reading posts from the top and missed this explanation.
I appreciate your your issues and let’s move on

And on apologies, I have one to make. I genuinely thought you were talking about a transwoman who was doxxed. I didn't know that your friend was a biological female who was mistaken for a male. Which makes my posts to you on this null and void.

My mistake and I sincerely apologise to you.

Britain First have launched a petition and called for a boycott, along with quite a few prominent voices such as Calvin Robinson, Darren Grimes, Dan Wooton et al - which has been mentioned a number of times on this thread. Which is what sparked my comment about the right and their somewhat flexible approach.

You have to hand it to them, they're very inclusive when it comes to who they hate. It's everyone who isn't them.

JusteanBiscuits · 15/11/2024 16:04

Again, what exactly is bollocks?

Those two saggy, hairy things that most men have between their legs. Notably lacking among the likes of Tommy Robinson and other fascists. Hitler himself was a uniball.

I think she was picked on purpose so they can pretend it is only racist people who object. brushing the real point of their advert-men who say they are women are perfectly normal.

If an earlier pp is correct and this actress is a Pro Trans activist, then it is obvious to everyone with half an eye that Boots-who consulted Trans groups-before making this awful advert- that she was ideal for the job.

Anyone who objects to the pushing of trans issues should boycott Boots.

If you don't object, then crack on and spend, spend, spend. You-or your daughters-will regret it but hey ho-be kind!

But one last thing-did you see any females pretending to be men in this advert?

Edited

There are no claims in the advert that anyone has changed sex. From a Gender Critical point of view - feminine men, masculine women and the fully androgynous are to be supported - even encouraged and celebrated.

Your position is more in line with the American far right's insistence on everyone conforming to traditional gender stereotypes. That's the real slippery slope - because at the bottom is children playing with the wrong toys and wanting to wear the wrong clothes being told they've been born in the wrong body.

Fucking hell. Do you think Africa is one country? It’s embarrassing how poorly educated people are in this country.

No I don't my darling. I know Africa is a continent with lots of countries in it - you are funny!!!
It was literally an example honey x

And yet you talk of 'the African Royal family'. Is that like the European Royal family? Back track much..

It was an example which exposed exactly who you are.

Gingernan · 15/11/2024 19:19

Certainly not, I'm not a racist!

NeelyOHara1 · 15/11/2024 19:23

Half watched advert but remember being a bit surprised at Adjoa Andoh being in an advert that seemed to be all about make up and glow ups etc as didn't think that would be her thing. Nothing else.

Lovebirdshatecats · 15/11/2024 19:31

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 15/11/2024 08:19

Why is the Royal family still so overwhemlingly white after all of these years? Why shouldn't it be commented on?

Seriously it's a role you're born to. Can they not marry whom they choose and there's only a few of them and William happened to marry a white woman so has white children. Harry married a woman of colour and has children who are mixed heritage but chose not to serve as the Royal family.

If people of colour marry people of colour are they critised. Surely everyone can marry whom they choose.

Panto dames are different from drag queens. My daughter who has special needs loves panto but is terrified of drag queens. I think it's a different energy and attitude.

Drag queens are not the same as TIMs by the way :)
