Why are people boycotting Boots? Are you?

Deadbeatex · 14/11/2024 18:30

For full disclosure I haven't seen the advert yet, but I'll probably end up searching for it if I don't come across it naturally during viewing in the next few days.

I've seen the #boycottboots and have worked out it's to do with their new Christmas ad. What's the issue? Are you boycotting Boots or do you think people are overreacting?

Randomly choosing the poll options simply because as stated I've not seen the ad so I don't currently have an opinion either way

YABU I'm boycotting
YANBU it's an overreaction

Excuse me
Understand who’s comment
I haven’t referred to anyones race and that is a direct personal attack on me
Look back over all of my messages before you throw out unfounded allegations

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 15/11/2024 15:33

Christmas ads are no longer simply Christmas ads, they’re Rorschach tests.

And that folks, is why a number of you are squabbling over this shit.

The advertising agencies must be pissing themselves - they’ve mugged you off.

JusteanBiscuits · 15/11/2024 15:23

Have you gone on any social media and read the outrage over her skin colour?

I don’t do social media as I mentioned on a previous post
I also don’t follow the crowd and agree with them

If there are a bunch of people with racist attitudes about this advert or anything on tv then that’s their cross to bear, not mine!

I’ve never mentioned I have an issue with this advert because of any actors or actresses race

Your words:

"Still, there will be some who refuse to see because they are trans, are trans activists, hate women, are trans allies, men or just a bit numb."

I am none of those and yet do not see a problem with the advert.

You also claimed her comment was racist. It wasn't when taken in context. I have read the thread. All of it. There people denying there is an outcry over her skin colour. There is. I was pointing that out.

But yes. I am utterly sick of those who are so painfully anti trans they try and ruin other people's lives on the back of someone else's say so. One, high profile man took against my friend and within hours there was a massive pile on including doxing. It's sickening.

Liann811 · 15/11/2024 15:45

People need to jog on if they have a problem with it. I for one love it.

DoraGray · 15/11/2024 15:09

Totally agree with you.

That's why this Boots ad is so outrageous-it slyly pushes the limits of what is acceptable-do they call it boiling the frog?
The poor frog-real women-don't realise the water getting hotter until it's too late!

I imagine the Trans-Activists at Boots are laughing up their sleeves at all the helpful idiots shouting that people don't like it because it's racist.

They refuse to take on board the fact that if it is only racists who object to this Boots advert, then why is there not a similar sized controversy about every advert featuring people of colour?

Could there possibly be something a bit different about this advert that makes it different from other adverts featuring people of colour and about which no controversy whirls.?

Still, there will be some who refuse to see because they are trans, are trans activists, hate women, are trans allies, men or just a bit numb.

There was a right old to-do a couple of years ago when Tesco's Christmas ad predominantly featured a black family.

Don't worry though, all the Britain First racists who are complaining on social media about this advert starring a black woman also hate trans people.

I get that you and many others dislike this advert because of trans activism. Actually I don't like it because I've always, since childhood, found men parodying women distasteful, and that includes pantomime dames and stuff like Mrs Brown's Boys.

But it is undeniable that the great bulk of the calls for boycotts are from racists preying on the fact that this actress dared to say something silly about Our Royal Family.

If you want to make your own boycott call on the trans issue fair enough; but it isn't what all the twitter storm is about.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
your quote isn’t mine 🤣🤣 you might want to check your facts

Her balcony comment was a racist comment in fact exactly when taken in context and offended many people. I did not comment that This issue has anything to do with her colour…….check again

Just because others are commenting about her skin colour does not immediately mean everyone has the same issue nor does it warrant an attack on me

So if you think I in any way made negative references to anyones skin colour please let me know.

Otherwise please apologise for your attack on me….although I see MNHQ has taken it down now.

And they hate gay and lesbian people and Jews. But they're a bit careful about saying so before they're actually in power.

Having a problem with the actress calling those on the balcony terribly white does not make them a racist. Actually that’s people calling out racism

Having a problem with people of a particular colour is racist.

I'm not boycotting, just hate their ''advantage card'' - its utterly useless.

Boots recycle is my favourite ever thing !
500 points when I spend £10, so effectively everything I buy there is half price .
It's a win for me

bugalugs45 · 15/11/2024 15:59

Just watched it, I smiled , it's tongue in cheek but definitely not offensive , and probably true that women do most of the shopping at xmas , they're appealing to their audience , nothing more . Great retailing

Justlurking101 · 15/11/2024 15:59

I thought the advert gave 'wicked' vibes, wasn't offended in the slightest, last time I was in for advice on colour matching a foundation a male employee gave me brilliant advice and lots of free samples. Won't be boycotting. No idea who the actress in the advert was either but didn't mind it at all.

StandingSideBySide · 15/11/2024 16:00

This whole issue has become extremely horrible because Britain First or whatever have become involved and made it about race.

To those on here there are other issues at play
We are not all the same

Have googled, being boycotted as "Mrs Claus" is black so nope, will definitely not be boycotting

Santa can marry who he likes, no problem with Mrs Claus.

I didn't attack anyone though. And there are now too many posts to go through and find out which one I copied.. so I apologise if I mis-credited the copy and paste, and it was someone else and not you.

If the woman who said it was white she might be thought ineptly woke, but there wouldn't be a basis for a boycott! In any case she wasn't criticising white people, only a particular nationally recognised family for only having white members. That doesn't mean she dislikes the existing members, just she'd like to see some new ones. I think you have to be really determined to see that as racist.

JassyRadlett · 15/11/2024 16:11

Arran2024 · 15/11/2024 15:30

I don't agree. Take Dylan Mulvaney and Bud Light. Dylan wasn't cancelled. It was Budweiser that was boycotted by people who decided the brand no longer met their needs.

Same here. If people look at the ad and think that Boots no longer matches their needs, that's just life. It will match the new market they are aiming at.

The actress in the ad isn't going to be cancelled. That's the difference.

We'll have to agree to disagree. An organised boycott of a brand because someone doesn't like what an actress they've hired has said is targeted at dissuading other brands from associating with her and making it harder to hire her - as well as trying to create economic consequences for legal speech.

There is no organised boycott though, is there? Just a few people deciding Boots is no longer for them. It's just a media storm in a teacup.

CatsBeCrazy · 15/11/2024 16:19

I've seen so many whinge bags on Facebook ads if there's so much as a black lady/man that nothing surprises me anymore.

JassyRadlett · 15/11/2024 16:27

Britain First have launched a petition and called for a boycott, along with quite a few prominent voices such as Calvin Robinson, Darren Grimes, Dan Wooton et al - which has been mentioned a number of times on this thread. Which is what sparked my comment about the right and their somewhat flexible approach.
