Why are people boycotting Boots? Are you?

For full disclosure I haven't seen the advert yet, but I'll probably end up searching for it if I don't come across it naturally during viewing in the next few days.

I've seen the #boycottboots and have worked out it's to do with their new Christmas ad. What's the issue? Are you boycotting Boots or do you think people are overreacting?

Randomly choosing the poll options simply because as stated I've not seen the ad so I don't currently have an opinion either way

She explained what she said. She said ‘ I think I upset some people yesterday ….I didn’t mean to upset anybody.’
She didn’t say I apologise for my comment yesterday it was inappropriate = that is an apology

It was the most complained about moment on TV in 2023

Her comment the next day was not an apology.

At Xmas I like snowy Xmas trees with coloured lights, elves in Santa's workshops loading up the sleigh with presents for all the children who have been good, and best of all Santa urging the reindeer to fly higher and higher until he and the sleigh and the reindeer cross the face of the moon. I'd like my son at four years old to be standing in our garden speechless with excitement, pointing at the sky saying that a plane's red lights were actually Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer.

Why can't activists and those who like to challenge us to think like them fall silent just for Christmas. All that woke stuff is meaningless to children; Christmas should be traditional and magical just for them.

Lots of people think that way, most probably these days.
A traditional Christmas though is religious ..but I doubt we’ll see a religious advert. In fact I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one.

I don't get this. Why is it "woke" and "meaningless to kids"for people who are black or in drag to be represented in telly shows/adverts?
We can all celebrate Christmas together, why does it make it any less or meaningless if it's not a completely white, straight cast?

So for those at the back who have missed why some people are annoyed with boots.

Nb: for some bizarre reason she hadn’t realised ?? the balcony after the coronation which only ever has family members would obviously be all white people. This is an intelligent lady….she would know this and the comment upset many people…..

She said she liked reindeers and Christmas trees and stuff. She didn’t say anything about everyone having to be white.

anyway I actually don’t mind the every and haven’t boycotted anything as think the whole thing is should but I do think the white balcony comment is a bit stupid 🤣 not like everyone is voting in a white family every year.

She said some unpleasant things during the coronation I think while a guest on one of the major channels. There would be many other women they could have chosen. But I am an ardent Royalist so maybe I am biased.

She is also mixed race, with one of her parents being white.

Totally missing the point, but I glanced this advert for the first time last night, wasn't watching properly, and assumed it was for M&S... so if I had any inclination to boycott a company because of that ad (I don't!), I'd be boycotting the wrong one 😂

Exactly. 'Terribly' can be used as an intensifier like 'very' and has a different meaning than 'too'.

What she said was awful, and I’d think that if a white person said the Royal family was ‘Terribly white’ - I wonder if a white actor had said the same thing about a black family would they be in the Boots Christmas advert?

And I’m fairly sure that she was aware of that.

But I don’t find the add upsetting and boots is definitely one of my favourites whenever I’m back in the UK.

Have to be careful with this one, because I’ve seen people assume the boycott is about a black woman being portrayed as Mrs Claus. That’s how I understood the message from media and felt taken aback thinking that can’t be right and then watched the advert.

It is NOT about the woman being black. It is about her racisms towards white people, and the try hard to push woke agenda using pronouns “It so THEM” in the advert. Workshop full of transgender effluencers, and the only man is a white, lazy Santa.
It is not a message that fills you with warmth at Christmas, I really didn’t like it.
