Why are people boycotting Boots? Are you?

For full disclosure I haven't seen the advert yet, but I'll probably end up searching for it if I don't come across it naturally during viewing in the next few days.

I've seen the #boycottboots and have worked out it's to do with their new Christmas ad. What's the issue? Are you boycotting Boots or do you think people are overreacting?

Randomly choosing the poll options simply because as stated I've not seen the ad so I don't currently have an opinion either way

It's not my cup of tea, mainly because I don't find it very festive but I wouldn't boycott Boots over it.

Based on the down votes on YouTube it doesn't seem very popular though.

I don't see any of the Xmas ads unless I look them up, I guess I'll watch it so I know what this thread is referring to

Well, it's because she was the actress who proclaimed at the Jubilee that the Royal balcony was 'too white'. So she has been rightly so called racist.
I like the advert but hate the fact they have to shoe horn drag artistes in every advert these days. I look at the ad now and think oh they aren't aiming it at me anymore - I don't want to look like a drag queen thanks!!

I’m definitely not boycotting them. The last thing I want is to lose another store from the high street!

Also those who said it’s anti christmas/anti christian is the christian message not supposed to be about love and acceptance (new testament anyway) and isn’t christmas all about love not hate. It must be exhausting going around being offended by everything and everyone that doesn’t fit your moulds!

Also as a white person is it also racist of me to declare the royals “very white” - cause spoiler they sort of are.

A white heterosexual family, I am guessing. Eating overcooked turkey and mushy sprouts. Mum in the kitchen and dad opening the annual bottle of sherry. Grandparents watching as the kids play with their Action Man (boy) and Barbie (girl).

Why is it ‘right’ to say that a white family is too white? Would it be right to say that a black family is too black?

If I need something from Boots, then that is where I will be going.

My only annoyance with Boots is that there's very few alternatives!

Maybe instead of the stupid advert they could have better spent the money on getting some staff in their shops.

I hadn't seen it or heard anything about it until this thread. Just watched it - it's cringingy try-hard, but not offensive. If I boycotted every shop that made a shit advert, I'd have nowhere to buy anything! Really couldn't get myself worked up about it.

Omg that’s very them that is how anyone would say about what someone likes I have heard that expressed that way before don’t think that has anything to do with pronouns as in trans etc

What a complete non argument,what the actress said was racist.A white woman saying a black royal family was too black would be vilified and rightly so.

I think it might be useful to realise that most people's exasperation with this advert isn't rooted in bigotry though, and using that word to justify your response is problematic imo.

It's far too easy to just write off opinions we disagree with as bigotry without considering why people hold them. The world is so much more nuanced than "them bad" and, "me good" and throwing labels like bigot around allows us to justify shouting people down and labelling them as "to be ignored". It is surely much more constructive to listen to their reasons and consider why they feel that way than to assume it is because they are racist or anti drag queen.

I might possibly be channelling my distress at how this kind of tribal kneejerk response has fed into the shitshow in the US.

Love that people think a black woman saying the royals are very white is racist. The royal family were found in recent years to be using some royal exemption so they could avoid hiring non whites in office roles and not have to publish their diversity figures. Loads of them have said racist stuff. Also their ancestors were involved in slavery and in brutal acts against minorities in lots of different countries. But lets get offended cause someone called them white LOL.

I thought it was bloody brilliant - I took it at face value, that it’s generally women running about like headless chickens, making sure Christmas is ‘magical’, for very little thanks/ acknowledgement.
