To not like the John Lewis christmas ad this year

Another light hearted one from me 🤭

I like the fact that it's all women but it isn't moving enough this year tbh

A bit of a let down

Anyone - am I meant to be puzzled by the pink jumper or what?

MumOfOneAllAlone · 14/11/2024 11:49

Ponoka7 · 14/11/2024 11:34

Better than your child a Christmas present (trampoline) covered in animal shit and the dead ones the foxes would have ripped apart (2016).

😄😄

I don't understand the advert. At first I thought the main character was dreaming, but it seems not.

MumOfOneAllAlone · 14/11/2024 11:51

Ponoka7 · 14/11/2024 11:36

Beat me to it 😆.The thread on it was hilarious.

Oo if you know where to find it, please do share

I liked it. My love for the John Lewis Christmas ad continues.

Why are there two ads? I’d only seen the pink jumper one and assumed I’d made a mistake and it wasn’t John Lewis, but it is…
Very confused. Like the jumper one, don’t like the sisters one. It makes no sense.

Yeah, me too, I was confused when I first saw the pink jumper one

I think the pink jumper one also illustrates the point of seeing someone grow up, better than the christmas one

My sister died this year. It made me cry.

Oh I'm sorry @jewell25 ❤️

Im not a fan of it but can defo see the sentimental side for those who've been lucky enough to share a sister bond x

Needmorelego · 14/11/2024 11:55

@Ponoka7 they should do a follow up about the trampoline.
It's now neglected as the novelty of it wore of after 3 months. It's rusty and it's a bloody pain because it takes up most of the garden.
Attempts to sell it failed miserably. Attempts to give away for free on Facebook failed. Even the scrap man does't want it.
The advert - Father Christmas crash landing on it and swearing loudly 😂

MumOfOneAllAlone · 14/11/2024 11:55

I thought it was crap, thought it was going Narnia to start with and then it was just a load of boring memories. If she'd picked up stuff and been catapulted to a memory it would have made more sense. Utterly rubbish.

Yeah completely agree, don't think it was done well

Meh - doesn’t do much for me. And I can guarantee that if I had been kept waiting outside a shop in the cold for my sister, and then she’d come out and blamed me, that would 100% end up in an argument! 🤣

😄😄😄

Needmorelego · 14/11/2024 11:55

@Jewell25 sorry for your loss 💐🩷

Also that branch of JL was very calm for a shop closing in 15 minutes on Christmas Eve.

😄😄 so true

In so sorry, I know how you feel, my mum died 12 months ago this Sunday and the Tesco advert is about mum/grandma memories. I can't watch it.

I'm really sorry for your loss @ilikewinter x

Loved that Guardian article. Have just checked out the ad and I loved it actually, made me shed a tear.

shit, me too. Very powerful for me, for all sorts of complex reasons ...

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2024 11:58

I like the song it uses and it is the original and not slowed down
The rest is meh
I like Waitrose at Christmastime for some nice good , but rarely go into JL , so no skin in the game really

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2024 11:58

*Food

tangobravo · 14/11/2024 12:01

I love it! I like that there aren't a ton of products shoved in your face (including the final gift), no shiny food or drink, just the message that just one perfect gift is enough! In this climate I think that's good tbh. And the bit with the mum made me tear up. And the soundtrack is great. I'm a fan!

curtaintwitcher78 · 14/11/2024 12:01

Marabousfy · 14/11/2024 11:48

Bloody love it! But then I do have a sister… and as for that Guardian ‘review’ Oh do fuck off Stuart, who pissed in your chips!
How DARE an ad for a department store be about shopping. The bastards!

He's being sarcastic and likes the ad for being honest?

Toddlerteaplease · 14/11/2024 12:03

VickyEadieofThigh · 14/11/2024 10:49

Hang on - what happened to the pink jumper with the blob of jam and piano version of 'Make you feel my love'?

I'm VERY confused now.

Isn't this the advert? Is there another one? I'm also confused!

CrumblyOwl · 14/11/2024 12:03

rubbish - what am I meant to buy a little fluffy toy of?

dihydroxyphenethylamine · 14/11/2024 12:03

DiamondGoldandSilver · 14/11/2024 11:51

I liked it. My love for the John Lewis Christmas ad continues.

Me too! I suppose it’s possible that one year they’ll make one I don’t love but not yet.

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2024 12:04

Waitrose with the ' who ate all the dessert ? ' ad is good fun.

TeaMistress · 14/11/2024 12:04

I really liked it. Made me a bit tearful

ButterMints · 14/11/2024 12:08

I was also waiting for the twist at the end where the sister had died and she was taking a present to the graveyard. The guardian article is spot on.

givemushypeasachance · 14/11/2024 12:09

"Maybe the woman in the shop isn’t thinking about her sister at all. Maybe she tripped forward and hit her head on a clothing rail, and what we’re actually seeing is her life flashing before her eyes as she slowly bleeds out. That’s better, isn’t it? That’s a bit more John Lewisy."

Lol from the Guardian take on it.

I'm a bit face-blind so I struggled to tell them apart as two similar looking women/the girls of different ages, wasn't sure when it was the main character and when it was the sister in the flashbacks.
