To think mid cycle bleeding is common

Hi, I have been suffering from midcycle bleeding for 3 or 4 months. I get pain on my left side, which feels like a dull ache. It goes around to my hip and lower back on the left side. The bleeding is light, and only when I wipe and pinky red coloured. It is intimittent stopping and starting again over about 2/3 days. I am also constipated. I am 39, no pain during sex and no vaginal dryness.

What could this be? Has anybody experienced similar symptoms?

Ovulation

Ohwhatshoestobuy · 11/11/2024 20:37

Although I think it usually switches sides from
month to month

LaLaLaurie · 11/11/2024 20:37

I don’t mean to alarm you but those symptoms are red flags and should be checked out. Are you up to date with your smears?

Ovulation

Can it get suddenly worse with age? It is always my left side too.

Book in with your GP. It can be normal for some women, but it’s not normal for you if it’s only been occurring for the last 3-4 months and you have not had it investigated. No one on the internet can tell you what it is. It could be any number of things.

Newsenmum · 11/11/2024 20:39

I really wouldn’t call it common! Have you spoken to a doctor?

Or maybe something is wrong? Blows my mind you won’t get this checked out.

Maverick101 · 11/11/2024 20:39

Another chiming in to say you need to discuss these changes with a doctor.

mindutopia · 11/11/2024 20:40

If it’s around ovulation, it’s very normal. If it’s random, it could be of concern, though potentially from a cervical ectropion if it seems to correlate with the constipation. If you don’t think it’s happening at ovulation time, it is something worth getting checked as ovarian issues could potentially cause all of it (a large ovarian cyst, or worse, cancer, can cause constipation). But yes, I often get spotting at ovulation, only lasts a day though, very obviously ovulation.

WorldMap24 · 11/11/2024 20:40

I wouldn't consider recurrent mid cycle bleeding common, no. I would get checked out by your GP op so you can be reassured all is OK.

I have never missed a smear, last one I had was at the start of the year. My Mum had benign ovarian cysts, one was large, and had to be surgically removed, incase it ruptured. Could it be something like this? I am not sure if this is genetic. I am fine the rest of the month, these issues seem to only be happening midcycle.

It’s not common or normal, no.

MsPavlichenko · 11/11/2024 20:43

You must see your doctor asap. If you explain what is happening over the phone you should be prioritised for an appointment.

It might be ovulation pain/bleeding but in my experience you’d have had that from a younger age . Any bleeding outside your normal pattern of menstruation needs to be investigated. Don’t wait.

Fakinguntilyoumakeit · 11/11/2024 20:44

Thank you all, I will make an appointment at the gp tomorrow. If it was serious wouldn't I suffer from it all of the time? I'm thinking it could be hormonal possibly. The bleeding isn't heavy and not alot, and goes completely away until my period which is like clockwork, and not irregular.

I started getting this in my 30s. I would get sharp ovarian pain, then ewcm which would be a bit blood-stained. I was having other gyne issues and was referred to a gynaecologist, but I never got any answers.

JawsCushion · 11/11/2024 20:46

Definitely needs checking out. Pain on ovulation, yes, bleeding for three or four days, no.

LaLaLaurie · 11/11/2024 20:46

It could be ovulation but if it’s new and along side pain and constipation then it’s really worth getting booked in with your GP asap.

Hemiola · 11/11/2024 20:47

Only had that when pregnant. Have left ovary side pain every month during ovulation. Only had bleeding mid cycle when I took mini pill. I'd get yourself checked out.

Thank you. I'm pleased you have said ewcm, I don't want to be graphic, but I get a lot of that. And it can be blood tinged as well. Did it stop? I have wondered if it is a form of endometriosis, I read sometimes cysts can develop and then heal themselves.

I started having mid cycle bleeding just after the birth of my second child who is now 17. Had loads of tests and scans but nothing untoward and was clearly linked to ovulation. Still happens now.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/11/2024 20:49

This is a symptom of cancer so you should definitely get checked out.

I have probably been confusing, I had light bleeding when I wiped one day, nothing the next at all, then light today, but not all day, just spotting.

PrimalLass · 11/11/2024 20:49

It is for me, for the last 16 years since my second child. Never before. Like clockwork.

So common there's a name for it.

dorabora · 11/11/2024 20:52

I get this too since I've had my second child 9 months ago, it is around ovulation time though and only happens every other month and only like once when I wipe, not for days.
I'm also constipated and have been for about 2 years since the babies !!
It could be normal op but do get checked out and post back !
