To think mid cycle bleeding is common

Hi, I have been suffering from midcycle bleeding for 3 or 4 months. I get pain on my left side, which feels like a dull ache. It goes around to my hip and lower back on the left side. The bleeding is light, and only when I wipe and pinky red coloured. It is intimittent stopping and starting again over about 2/3 days. I am also constipated. I am 39, no pain during sex and no vaginal dryness.

What could this be? Has anybody experienced similar symptoms?

I'm starting to think I have a UTI, my pelvis doesn't hurt today, and just some aches in back and frequent urination. I think I have pulled a muscle there after some physical activity which coincides, and then that and the possible UTI.

I do have a hormone imbalance, too. I'm epileptic and this triggers my seizures at the two points of my cycle. (I have a lot going on). I have my LH surge between dc17 and cd19. I start my period cd25. It is CD 20 today.

When I think back when ever I haven't been on the pill I have always had ovulation pain.

Please see your GP. The likelihood is that it’s nothing serious but mid-cycle bleeding should always be checked out to exclude cervical cancer, even if smears are normal.

coffeesaveslives · 12/11/2024 11:39

Stop trying to diagnose yourself online and make an appointment with your doctor.

If it's ovulation pain and spotting then great, you have nothing to worry about, but if it's something more serious then at least you can be treated appropriately.

My mid-cycle bleeding was a symptom of PCOS.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/11/2024 12:01

I suffered with ovulation pain for years but I already had had scans etc and had a diagnosis of PCOS, endometriosis and adenomyosis.

Any new persistent symptom should be checked even if the most likely explanation is something benign.

Go and see your GP.

Fakinguntilyoumakeit · 12/11/2024 12:18

Thank you, rang the GP, and they have said to ring first thing in morning for an appt tomorrow. I have had some more light spotting today (cd20). I'm getting period pains almost like about to come on my period 5 days early. I am going to get checked.

In the meantime has anybody had this? Pains only on one side, and across lower back. Could it be the starts of peri menopause at 39?

I some times had spotting because my hormones were part of the problem so I also had a cervical ectropion (checked with a colposcopy).
The pain was monumental it was like I had a spiked golf ball in my groin and that someone had covered me in chilli from knee to navel. So backache, front ache, groin pain - I would struggle to stand upright for about 48 hours.

The level of pain is not necessarily linked to the seriousness of the condition. I used to get terrible backache with my periods as we’ll because I had endo on some of the pelvic ligaments.

Sorry this might have been addressed, but have you done a pregnancy test?

Oh thank you, this sounds so similar. The pain feels achy on my left, and sometimes like a deep nawing deep in my hip. It can affect my groin too, and back. I usually only spot around the day of ovulation (and not every month). This month, I have had it cd10, cd15, cd19, cd20 (today). I usually have my period cd25.
When I say spotting, I mean really light when I wipe, and not every time I wipe, so I'm not bleeding all day, it could be as little as 2 times at the toilet that day iyswim. Theb other times absolutely nothing. I get ewcm when I ovulate and then no unusual discharge or anything after that, in that respect everything seems as it should be.
How long did it take you to find put if you don't mine me asking? Did you get irratic spotting too?

Dh has had a vasectomy, so no chance of that thank goodness. I'm 39, with a 7, and 5 year old.

Once I had a gynaecology referral things progressed quite quickly. The GP may want to do some blood tests first but do push for a referral too.

Vasectomies can fail.

He had it checked, it was done about 2 years ago.

Thank you, I will. I'm due on my period this weekend. I have had pink spotting most of today. I don't know it is pms spotting, and that my period is coming early or something. I'll ring doctors first thing in morning. It feels like my cycle has been super short this month.

I have never missed a smear, last one I had was at the start of the year. My Mum had benign ovarian cysts, one was large, and had to be surgically removed, incase it ruptured. Could it be something like this? I am not sure if this is genetic. I am fine the rest of the month, these issues seem to only be happening midcycle.

Edited

It could be anything. It happen to me and I had a common growth on my cervix and they burnt it off.

Get it checked, it’s likely nothing but just be safe.

Fakinguntilyoumakeit · 13/11/2024 10:37

Just an update to say I have an appointment this afternoon with a GP who specialises in women health, and reproductive systems. Hopefully I'll get to the bottom of this! I suspect a hormone imbalance at the very least, maybe endometriosis or something sort of cyst, we will see what happens. I feel pleased to have an appointment with this doctor, because she is lovely, and easy to talk to as well.

Just to update i have been to the gp today. I have been referred for a scan. I had a routine pap smear done 6 months ago, but the doctor has ordered a kit, and is going to check my cervix next week. I am guessing a more comprehensive test maybe? I should have asked, but I was anxious.

coffeesaveslives · 13/11/2024 18:22

They just have to rule out any pre-cancerous changes or problems with your cervix (like an ectropian) - it's very normal.

VegTrug · 13/11/2024 18:26

Never ever had mid-cycle bleeding and I'm 40.

simba30 · 13/11/2024 18:34

This happened to me but it turned out to be my copper coil. Randomly started bleeding mid cycle about 3 years in. Got it taken out, problem solved! Could this be an option? I to was convinced it was ovulation bleeding.

ValentinesDayCryingInTheHotel · 13/11/2024 18:36

I’ve had ovulation spotting since about 33. I am 39 now.

Never had any bleeding while pregnant (twice), not even a drop of blood. So figured it was hormone related.

I saw GP, had a scan and I’ve separately had a smear, with “abnormal” cells that needed checking further but turned out to be nothing.

mine is with the EWCM too. Has got heavier/more as I’ve got older. Also wondered if im approaching perimenopausal age!

i was just told everything was ok and it was never followed up so assumed hormones.

i get awful migraines too and fuzzy heads/dizziness at both ovulation time/period time, and it’s a million times worse if I binge sugar. Which I think whacks my hormones out more!

so I’ve always put it down to bogstandard ovulation spotting.

Hope everything ok for you OP and I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about

I don't have a coil, and not on birth control.

Thank you. Oh, that must have been so scary! I haven't had any spotting today thank goodness, but the pelvic pain is deep in the left and around my hip and radiating across my back. This has been quite constant today. It isn't severe, more of a dull ache and niggling which feels deep. The doctor couldn't feel any masses or anything, there was no tenderness and no bloating. I also don't have pain during urination, hopefully good signs.
