Stop me if you have already heard this the last few days, I am trying to make sense of how I feel about Trump and other right leaning wins:

“Woke” issues being pushed to where they have been, has empowered the right by giving them something real and legitimate to campaign against. Something more than their usual transparently false bogeymen.

In general, Authoritarianism, compelled speech, no debate. Specifically men in women’s sports, in women’s changing rooms, unfettered immigration, being asked to ignore the evidence in front of our eyes.

This is happening across the world, Italy, France, Germany, USA, UK.

I remain entirely committed to progressive taxation, a social safety net, collective bargaining, workers rights, public schooling and health services as well as the rights of everyone to live contented, unmolested lives.

I reject identity politics in their entirety. For example, I consider terms like “Woman of colour” to be the epitome of divisive, racist, sexist thought patterns that seeks to infantilise people and move their locus of control from internal to external. Disempowering people and making them victims.

I didn’t leave the left. The left left me.

Reasonable?

Yes, I'm asking because you haven't managed to do it for decades. Trans people have been around for centuries, living their lives and accessing female spaces mostly without incident all that time. The only thing that's changed over the last decade is the visibility and with it the rhetoric.

That's a myth and lie. Firstly, trans is only a recent thing (transvestites before this didn't use female spaces), and before then, if a male entered our space we'd know and could call the police and the pervert would be charged with Indecent Exposure. Now, if we call the police, we are the ones charged! It's a complete reversal of how it was for decades.

That all changed with the Equality Act was re-written.

Not at all. I'm allowing you your space. I'm just asking for one for me and for trans women - on OUR terms - just like you want yours on your terms.

The fact that you won't accept my proposal exposes your true motivations.

You pretend that it's about your boundaries and safety being eroded, but I have provided you a solution that protects your boundaries and safety on your terms. You won't have it.

What you want , is not to protect yourself, but to eliminate the inclusion and safety of trans women and to erase them from society.

You an have one. Please do.

But it's called Unisex. Not female.

Because - you have invited in both sexes.

Of course not. Which is why there need to be safe, legal routes for asylum seekers.

How many people via these routes would meet the demand?

And because of the visibility and rhetoric and publicity, some males feel emboldened to enter women's spaces, to humiliate and threaten women, just because they now can.
Social pressure kept them out before. Now they have licence.
Some men will take any opportunity they can to oppress women.

For me, at least, it’s not that.

I may have moved a little to the right over the last forty years, but the Labour Party has moved further. So I’m more to the left of the Labour party than I was in my twenties.

I don’t think they have much of a clue about gender and identity. But they don’t have much idea about socialism either.

They were very fortunate this year to come up against a Tory party who were undisguisably hopeless and self-serving.

One thing the right is good at, is learning from their mistakes. I expect 2029 to be very different.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't actually devil's advocate...

There are very few things that humanity has managed to do with absolute 100% perfection since it began. Having only two sexes is actually one of the few things I can think of. I'm sure a few people have managed to slip through the net here and there, as with anything else.

But just as we don't get rid of speed limits entirely because we can't stop every last person from ever driving too fast, we don't abandon single sex spaces because we can't absolutely 100% ensure nobody ever slips in. And we sure as fuck don't make a mockery of it by pretending that women have penises so we can't actually keep anyone at all out and then pretend we are just morally looking out for butch or muscular women. We protect women as best we can and we don't demonise them for looking out for themselves.

Very very few people pass in real life anyway. Passing on social media is really something else. It's the rise of the insistence that Mike Tyson could become a woman tomorrow if he felt like it that has led to increased concern about who's in the space. As Janice Turner has said, it has also had detrimental effects on genuine trans people who previously lived in peace.

With regard to sports, it's a one time cheek swab. Very easy.

No.
there is no trans only space. I am not trans. I am in the space with trans women, and lots of other non trans women will be too.

Again the fact that you can’t accept this exposes your true motivations which is to ostracise trans people- nothing to do with protecting your personal boundaries.

Jesus christ - what a lot of projections!!

"eliminate the inclusion and safety of trans women"

why are they not safe in mens spaces?

"erase them from society"

No - I just refuse to cal men women, a red pen a blue pen, or say there are five fucking lights - like everyone else here

" I'm just asking for one for me and for trans women - on OUR terms - just like you want yours on your terms"

No you are not, you are insisting on everyone accepting your view, the one that is based on feels , not facts, you are insisting on endangering women and girls by forcing them to share a space with a penis. You literally think women and girls being raped and abused is less important than the feels of some men in dresses.

Tell us why a unisex space is not acceptable for trans identified people and you to go in?

This is about males. Males and trans having their own spaces does not 'ostracise' them. Your true motive is to ostracise vulnerable women, send them back inside their homes and away from participating in society, to reinstate the Urinary Leash, and propel the patriarchy.

If you want so badly to have male bodies in your space, you can use the males. And leave us females alone.

You have only made one point - that mens feelings are more important to you than:

  • women and girls being raped
  • Women and girls not wanting to participate in sport
  • women and girls being forced to ignore their instincts
  • Facts

Why do you hate women so much that you want this to happen to them?

So - yes or no - would you accept 3 changing room spaces
Male (trans inclusive)
Female (no males, no trans identified males)
Unisex (anyone inc. trans)

I agree. I think this is an interesting thread. I also think it's a shame that it's had to turn into a trans one, a political issue that should be dropped imo. And by dropped I mean a categorical no, it doesn't matter how you say you identity other people still have rights, you still have to abide by rules that apply to everyone else and keep out of other people's spaces.

I would so, so love for the issue to be dropped.
But we can't drop it until it is settled.

I would be in favour of third-spaces (physical and metaphorical, like shortlists).
You can call the third space 'unisex', or 'everyone' or 'women and transwomen'. Whatever.
But most transwomen don't want a third space, because that is invalidating. Nothing but being in the female-only space will do.

And of course society doesn't have the money or will to re-build all those changing rooms and toilets.
So we fight to keep males out of the female spaces.

And can't drop it until we succeed.

Christians REALLY FEEL that Jesus speaks to them, that it's real and factual. Clearly it's still not true.

I am not denying what trans identified people feel - I am saying - that it's a FEELING not a FACT

And that you trying to FORCE me to say it is FACT is what has, effectively, got Trump elected.

It backfired on you and all trans identified people will suffer because of your over reach

again, @Tandora , tell me how this is wrong and why?

But perhaps you are right, and they are wrong.

Every single person in the US could vote for Trump and I would still believe that I was right and they were wrong, based on his character, his criminal record and his policies.

Some people I think need to a bit of reading to learn about the history of leftism, and perhaps unions, and why immigration has always been an important issue for working class people.

Because I think some here are talking out of a pretty unconscious middle class bubble.

More lack of historical sense.

The idea that the left is supposed to be pro-globalism and pro porous borders is about 5 minutes old.

There's a pretty strong sense in this discussion, and in the public generally, that many people who think they are on the left have no idea about the foundations of leftist thought.

If they did they wouldn't be surprised that the working classes have abandoned the left as they've changed their policies away from those that protect WC people.

Will the Democrats learn from the clean sweep from Republicans they've just experienced?

Going by reasoning for why it happened it doesn't look likely
