People putting up Xmas trees and decs now and moan about they are sick of dusting

I have a friend who has posted on FB with her tree and other decs up. She puts up tree etc about this time of year. Yet hear her moaning about how dusting the lounge takes longer due to tree etc.

Then have a colleague who probably puts up her tree about 10 later and her DH moans he he is sick of the sight of the tree a week before Christmas.

Both put tree away on Boxing Day! Noticed this a lot with the Xmas tree twirlies.

If you get fed up of the extra dusting, sight of it before Xmas, don’t put up your Decs up early then!

I don’t put my tree up until 2nd week of December

What are Christmas tree twirlies? Wouldn't bother me the extra dusting......or the moaning 🎉

Gingerbee · 09/11/2024 14:24

My neighbour put hers up on 31st October along with a blue light. At night you think there is an ambulance or police car opposite.
She moaned that kids went trick or treating as she had the front of the house lit up like Oxfor Street

OAPapparently · 09/11/2024 14:27

Are you sure you aren’t projecting how you feel about having Christmas decs up early? I know people who put up decorations now, I don’t know any who moan about dusting. They are often the exact opposite sort of people. Laid back enjoying life. I say this because you backed it up with

I don’t put my tree up until 2nd week of December

Anyway, mines going up next week, Merry Christmas! 🎄

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/11/2024 14:44

Mine goes up a week before Christmas and down on Boxing Day.

Christmas is over.

Boxing Day got it’s name because it’s when the decorations go back into their boxes.

😉

StarSlinger · 09/11/2024 14:47

I always take mine down the day after boxing day.Christmas is done then. I don't put them up until the beginning of December though, but it's so dark and gloomy atm I'm tempted to string a few Christmas lights around the house.

IcyLilacZebra · 09/11/2024 14:50

Mine never go up until around 12 December and down before new year

Erm, pretty sure that's not the origin of Boxing Day 😂 like your reasoning tho !

Up on last weekend of November, down before NYE. Normality 28th/29th.

Don't ever moan about it though.

PieEllaBakewell · 09/11/2024 14:54

I put ours up about 5 days before Christmas and take them down 2nd of January. That's plenty long enough for me. I think surely if they go up for too long you'd get Christmas fatigue?

Katherineryan1986 · 09/11/2024 14:55

I love Xmas decorations but certainly don't want them up yet! I usually put mine up about 10 days before Christmas and then take them down just after New Year's day.

Butteredtoast55 · 09/11/2024 14:56

I'm a twelfth night girl so my tree usually comes into the house on the Saturday before Christmas and out on January 5th

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/11/2024 14:59

What kind of monster puts up Christmas decorations in early November?

Decorations go up the Saturday nearest to Christmas day and down on twelfth night

Liverpool52 · 09/11/2024 15:01

I had a friend who used to make such a fuss about putting it up in November because she loved it. She'd then take it down on boxing day because she'd had enough. I always felt sad for her little boy who suddenly has all trace of christmas taken away 24 hours after the actual day. To me it's so much more than just the day. But then my mother would declare "that's it, done for another year" as soon as the last present was opened and it really pissed all over christmas for me.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/11/2024 15:03

The daulys between Xmas and New Year are the best bit - lazy days, decorations up, seasonal food but none of the stress and obligations.

Someone who puts their Christmas tree/dec's up too early (in OP's opinion).

I used to get a real tree so a couple of weeks before Christmas. Will be getting a fake one this year so not sure when. Won't be before December and won't be moaning about dust.

They don't though do they. In thr vast majority of cases. I believe early November is too early for me. But the nearest Saturday to Christmas? I just wouldn't bother.

Ohwtfnow · 09/11/2024 15:05

I know I’m supposed to be all “each to their own” about it but it (entirely unreasonably) annoys me. Christmas is lovely: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, then those fabulous lazy days doing not a lot and eating all the leftover food with the twinkly fairy lights on, living in that gentle Christmassy leftover glow until new year. Why would you not want the lovely decorations up then? If they piss you off by then then surely they’ve gone up too early in the first place? I’m a second week of December decorator too and it feels about the right balance. I don’t leave them up until 12th night like my parents did when I was a child because I find it depressing after new year when the festivities are over, but that bit in between needs the Christmas magic.

Iloveeverycat · 09/11/2024 15:06

Dusting what dusting!

StarSlinger · 09/11/2024 15:08

I don't think I've ever dusted a christmas decoration in my life.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/11/2024 15:10

@K0OLA1D because the Christmas season starts with Christmas day, it doesn't end with it. We seem to have, over the years, got that wrong.

BakedAlaska12 · 09/11/2024 15:13

I love the in between hazy days too 🎄

Iceache · 09/11/2024 15:14

I have noticed that the people who put their trees up early (November) usually take them down on Boxing Day. I’m a twelfth night girl too - they come down as near to the 6th January as I can manage (depending on how the day falls with weekends). We get a real tree so it’s early December for us - around the 7th. I love the twinkly lazy days between Christmas and new year!

Martymcfly24 · 09/11/2024 15:17

As I read recently there 12 days of Christmas and none of them are in feckin November.

Yanbu op. Up usually the 8th December and down on 2nd January (I know that's not the twelfth night but I love spending that day scrubbing the house and starting a resolution to keep it clean-never happens)

Xjk · 09/11/2024 15:19

As a kid, my parents took the tree etc down a day or two before I went back to school as some years - day we went back was 4/5 Jan. As didn't want to return back to school and its still Christmas at home.

The dusting my friend refers to are around fireplace and shelves as she puts ornaments on them
