Another XL Bully Attack

Vicious XL Bully attack leaves five-year-old boy with life-changing injuries and needing facial reconstruction surgery | Daily Mail Online

Little Teddy needed 100 stitches in his face but was lucky to escape with his life.

Is it unreasonable now to ask the Government to give a warning in the media, that children are to be kept away from these dogs? Not to enter a house or garden where they're known to be? Even if told that the dog is safe, which they are not.
This little chap was visiting a home with his family when it struck.

XL Bully attack leaves young boy needing facial reconstruction surgery

A five-year-old boy has been left with life-changing injuries following a vicious mauling by an XL Bully in Scotland. His traumatised family who helplessly watched on in horror now want the breed banned.

@Mumofnarnia sorry but you're starting to sound unhinged now. And a bit thick to be honest.

I agree. @blueyismyg has been very calm in the face of your ridiculous rudeness.

I agree it's time now for all XL bullies to be destroyed as their genetics mean they are completely unpredictable and dangerous. The Killer Kimbo genes are too inbred for any to be safe.

Grassgreenblue · 08/11/2024 22:27

I have a friend (I say friend,I never see her in person but do talk online) who is a massive fan of dogs (so am i)

She's all over defending this breed-'its not the breed, its the owner' is trotted out all the time

99% of the time,I agree but not with these fuckers

I've met two,I didn't know about them at the time as I'd never seen one before (I'm going back a few years)

These two dogs scared the crap out if me-their eyes

It was like they where staring into my soul and waiting to attack-pure evil

I've read up on them and they need a mass cull

I've given her the facts, with proof, but she's not listening and wants one (thankfully she has another breed who hates other dogs)

She's told me that she'd be happy to have them around any grandchild her son gives her (thank god he's got more sense than her and refuses to give her any due to his disabilities-he wouldnt be able to cope with a child) or around friends kids (who are as dumb as she is and would be happy to allow it near their kids)

I believe pets are good for children (I grew up with a dog) but anyone who bleats 'it's not the breed...' needs locking up and the key to be chucked in the nearest river

HeadacheEarthquake · 08/11/2024 22:28

Is there a government petition to at least warn externally of ownership, or at most cull them?

blueyismyg · 08/11/2024 22:38

@QueenTweenandKingTeen dear god, how am I a 'bully defender' for simply pointing out that bull breeds in general cannot be compared against XL bullies?

The bans you suggest will never happen. It's hard enough to police the dogs that are a genuine danger to the public. If you thinking banning a bunch of other big dogs will help you are deluded. All it does it take resources and attention away from the real issue - XL bullies, who are in a league of their own when it comes to behaviour and temperament.

There's a map here showing where all the registered XL's live.

Handy if you're moving house or choosing where to go on holiday . . .

Thanks for this!! There are nearly 150 in my postcode district!!

Errors · 08/11/2024 22:41

What options are there for current owners of them?
So let’s say someone had got one before it was understood how dangerous they are, and they wanted to give theirs up because they’d done the research and decided that it wasn’t safe, they can’t go and get them pts can they?! Is their only option to rehome?

SunriseMonsters · 08/11/2024 22:45

It is illegal to rehome them. Yes, they can get it put to sleep. They were even offered money to do so but barely any have.

nocompromisenecessary · 08/11/2024 22:46

Hi Errors,
I'm pretty sure people can request their dogs are put to sleep. It could be done humanely and ceremonially for those that have become loved family pets.
Better that way than after a tragic event.

Anonymousess · 08/11/2024 22:48

I don’t have anywhere else to post this so will just go for here. Someone I went to school with has not one, but two XL Bully dogs and I’m so shocked. She seems like she’s done well for herself so I’m just so confused as to what she was thinking with these 2 massive, scary dogs paraded all over her social media.

Unbelievable. Reminds me of the chap in Florida who raised an alligator from its egg
Fed and petted it regularly. Till it killed him
No cure for stupid

It's an eyeopener isn't it.

Runcorn, Widnes and the Liverpool area seem particularly saturated.

ToffeeSquirrels · 08/11/2024 23:03

Surely with dogs it's PSI 'bite force' (Pounds per square inch).
Apparently no dog actually has the ability to 'lock its jaws' it just refuses to let go, which is equally horrifying.

'Ceremonially'?

nocompromisenecessary · 08/11/2024 23:09

ToffeeSquirrels · 08/11/2024 23:05

'Ceremonially'?

I mean people could plan it, have a last supper, last play and walk, say your last goodbyes, plan where to scatter ashes etc.

None of that happens once your dog has attacked and is seized or shot by police. No goodbyes. Just tragedy, trauma, gone.

Rummly · 08/11/2024 23:14

The most recent, well-publicised time there was a police shooting of dangerous dogs - in East London - there was whining and shouting from some on MN. Nuts, completely nuts.

Bubblebuttress · 08/11/2024 23:24

I think I’ve seen some around town. Do we report them? To the police? And what are the breeds that look like XL bullies but are not. I wonder if I am getting them mixed up

ChitterChatter1987 · 08/11/2024 23:24

Awful....I once saw a petrifying picture on FB of someone local to me letting their little kid kiss their pet XL bully on the nose!

Not long after, it got rehomed because it bit the parent quite badly on the arm.

I think it got PTS in the end for being vicious (suprise suprise)

DysonSphere · 08/11/2024 23:29

I've previously been very much for complete destruction of this breed. There are tons of XL bully owners where I live, and they are all owned by idiots in the main. Often walked outside without muzzles including the local parks where children play in the same grass as the dog walkers! People walking them getting a massive ego boost from the fear of pedestrians.

However, I have recently been watching videos of farm guarding dogs and security dogs and I wonder if there is a case for them being owned by specialist owners?

I saw this video for e.g. which looks like an XL bully dog (as far I can see, but I'm no expert admittedly) which is being professionally trained for security and it does seem that with proper training and appropriate stimulation this breed of dog can be taught to 'let go' and become well trained and obedient. Or am I naive? I am asking experienced dog owners of large breeds specifically.

Very interesting - there is definitely a class divide going on.

Thedogscollar · 09/11/2024 00:17

These dogs need to be exterminated.
They are NOT pets they are killers.

Yawn 🥱

Resorting to insults are we. Your ridiculous rudeness is very much disgusting but I don’t really care because your post is a bit ‘thick’ and ‘unhinged’ and not even worth a reply! You absolutely sound unhinged!

I am no expert on dogs, but I would rather take my chances with a staffy than an XL. Of course my preference would be to not be attacked in the first place!
I think for me, this comes down to risk. It seems that the number of attacks recently are disproportionately down to XLs than any other breed. And after reading that article someone kindly posted up thread about the lineage, I can see why.
Can anyone who knows anything about other Bully breeds explain to me - do other bully breeds at least give a warning?! A growl or grumble or ‘snap’ before they attack? It doesn’t seem like the XL does which is what makes it so dangerous. You can always teach a kid to heed a warning from a dog but sometimes, there isn’t one!
And how common is in-breeding and/or sudden onset rage in other Bully breeds?

It seems like the XL’s have the perfect combination of a totally unpredictable killing machine. I think part of what makes them so dangerous is luring their owners in to a false sense of security by being so docile and loving and then giving no warning before attacking you. And then of course being so powerful that there isn’t much you can do once they flip.

@blueyismyg would you know the answer to my questions please?
Or perhaps any other dog experts on this thread?
