Could you be with a man who would have voted Trump?

Just that really.

My husband doesn't love Trump exactly but said tonight he would have voted for him and he hopes Trump will "dismantle the deep state".

Could you be with a Trump voter? Interested in people's views.

MumOfOneAllAlone · 06/11/2024 21:56

I think I could, and I've given it some thought

I grew up with a 'feminist, socialist, leftie' sd

He was a man who hid behind these things to disguise how fucking useless he was. Treated my dm terribly And it turned out none of his politics were actually upheld by him when it mattered. Bellend.

Just because a man has correct politics, it doesn't make him a decent husband. I've met a fair few men with liberal ideals who have been shocking partners.

As long as he was strong, protective and family focused, I could x

Circumferences · 06/11/2024 21:56

When the choice is that bad..... Voting trump is forgivable.

Blinky21 · 06/11/2024 21:57

No, nor a Tory, core values and moral codes are really important to me. I wouldn't have a friend or a partner who subscribed to views I find abhorrent

SleeplessInWherever · 06/11/2024 21:57

I couldn’t be friends, married or in any form of relationship with someone so clearly differently minded to me.

Rightly or wrongly, I prefer to be surrounded by those who share similar values and morals to me. So anyone particularly right leaning, Trump/Farage/Tory supporters - they’re not my people.

They’re someone’s people and that’s okay, but they’re not mine and I couldn’t be married to one.

Mammyofonlyone · 06/11/2024 21:59

That does make sense. My husband said the same about the economic impact his presidency he had on a lot of pockets. When we are going through our own cost of living crisis it is hard to argue with.

Again, not trying to provoke, how do you square his comments on women?

Cattenberg · 06/11/2024 22:00

No way on Earth. I have a friend who votes Tory, but I couldn’t be friends with a Trump supporter, let alone date one. I find Trump’s behaviour abhorrent.

DoTheDinosaurStomp · 06/11/2024 22:01

Yes. He would be free to vote for whoever he wished, just as I hope I would also be without feeling pressured either way.

missmollygreen · 06/11/2024 22:02

Michelle12A · 06/11/2024 21:10

I mean over 50% of men did

44% of women did too... (52% of white women did)

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 06/11/2024 22:03

Michelle12A · 06/11/2024 21:10

I mean over 50% of men did

Well yes, but that's fine. I'd definitely reject about 96% of men as potential partners anyway, so (assuming I was in America), avoiding the 50% who were Trump supporters wouldn't really be a problem.

whiteroseredrose · 06/11/2024 22:04

No. I would seriously judge his values.

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 06/11/2024 22:05

No, and also not with some of the 'hard left' types. Nobody who buys family security at the cost of dehumanising large swathes of 'others'. I couldn't look people in the eye, or feel sincere in my prayers to a God who was a refugee baby and eschewed political kingship to show us how to love the vulnerable, if my life partner had Trumpian values.

bows101 · 06/11/2024 22:06

Yes, I would question if I could be with a man who voted Harris Hmm

sprigatito · 06/11/2024 22:07

Tbh it's been an eye-opener and quite useful to see just how many people are so far around the moral u-bend that being a convicted felon and a rapist isn't a deal breaker for them.

FitAt50 · 06/11/2024 22:09

Millions of Women voted for Trump also.

Millions of Women voted for Trump also.

I wouldn't marry them either 🤍

RisingSunn · 06/11/2024 21:07

Yes - it’s not always about the “person” but the policies.

His policies are awful too.

wheeliegood · 06/11/2024 22:13

@Rain11 - really interesting, thank you for taking the time to respond. At a glance it seems like it's not about the man, but the party, and also how the democrats have, or are perceived to have, let people down. I understand why you choose not to enter into a debate - I will certainly leave you be. But you have given me lots to think about. And I will be. I am trying hard not to enter into an emotional response to the election results, but am appreciative of the opportunity to hear a different perspective.

Tvp123 · 06/11/2024 22:14

Absolutely not. My DP is American and I'd be out of the door if he had voted Trump.
For people saying there wasn't much choice, wtf! Kamala was always a better choice.

Tvp123 · 06/11/2024 22:15

I think your husband's belief in the deep state might be your bigger problem.

somenonsense · 06/11/2024 22:15

No, I would know he hated women

another1bitestheduck · 06/11/2024 22:17

Nanny0gg · 06/11/2024 21:07

No. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with opposing political views but as Trump is such a loathsome individual I couldn't cope with being with someone who supported him

this. I consider myself to be quite open minded and wouldn't necessarily judge someone for voting republican a few years ago, or for voting Tory in this country, but Trump isn't even a George Bush type.

I can't believe that a man who voted for him could genuinely see women as equal to them. So no, I couldn't ever be with someone who ultimately considered my rights as a human to be less important than the policies that convinced them to vote for him.

bumblebee1987 · 06/11/2024 22:18

Not a chance in hell. I couldn't be friends with anyone either. Generally I'd say that you should never let politics get in the way of relationships or friendships, but this is SO far beyond just politics. This is sickening. I genuinely never thought that brainwashing on this level would ever be possible again after World War 2. This isn't just a difference of opinion, this is abhorrent. He could have the most brilliant policies and ideas, but it doesn't make a scrap of difference. I don't care what bullshit anyone fell for when they voted for him, the man is self confessed REPEATED sex offender. I wouldn't trust him to look after my gerbil, let alone run arguably the most powerful country in the world.

Emilyjayne9421 · 06/11/2024 22:20

Some of you need to realise that it’s a democracy, people have the choice to vote for the party that they think will serve them and their families the best. Voting for a party doesn’t mean you love everything that the leader of that party has ever said, or even that you like the person. 100% of Americans were never going to vote for Harris. I respect those who voted for Harris, and those who voted for trump. Why? Because they have the freedom to vote as they please. It doesn’t mean that every Trump voter supports his personal beliefs or everything that has ever come out of his mouth.

zaxxon · 06/11/2024 22:23

Not sure about LTB, but it would certainly cause some rifts in the domestic lute. That Project 2025 stuff is scary.

And Trump's policies will be disastrous for the climate, which will affect us here in the UK, and indeed everyone everywhere.

Yet 72 million Americans chose Trump over Kamala
