Poppy on kids sports kits

This seems to be a big thing now, but seems very unfair.

How can a kid choose to not wear a poppy if its being handed out by their coach before a game?

Not everybody chooses to wear a poppy, for whatever reason... many people do and that's totally ok... but it seems harder and harder for kids to make the choice.

She isn't being forced. She can say no thank you or chose not to play in that game.

JaneDoeHere · 05/11/2024 19:48

You know what I have been attacked on here more so than anyone else.

I do not need nor want to read up about Ireland right now.

It’s really not much of a surprise that I’ve had the pile on.

I’ve said countless times that it’s people’s choices if they want to wear one. Personally I think it’s the right thing to do. No, I am not forcing anyone else too.

Bit ironic that all the posters piling on me can’t see that they are just being bullies. Bullies who have a voice, I wonder why.

Dont wear your poppies. You don’t know au h about me so just stop now with the personal attacks.

She should be able to play the game within the having to wear what to some is exceptionally ignorant and ridiculously hurtful. It is a symbol of unconvicted murderers.

Anyone else getting the irony here??
Without their sacrifice you may not have been able to voice "other views"
Im sure your kinds would be less happy in the Hitler youth.

Without "their" (whose? remember this isn't just about WW2) "sacrifice", my grandparents wouldn't have been summarily turfed out of their previously peaceful and harmonious homes, had their property confiscated, had to trek thousands of miles along an enforced route imposed by the British, to the relative haven of slightly less thugish thugs and left to fend for themselves with nothing but the clothes on their back. And my grandparents were the lucky ones.

The British Army did NOTHING for me. Can you not get the irony here? They ruined hundreds of thousands, if not millions of families' lives around the world. We were just fine voicing our "other views" before they arrived.

Brananan · 05/11/2024 18:55

I wonder how many of the pro poppy brigade would encourage their dcs to join the army?

Me. Well, I didn’t encourage him, he chose of his own free will. He’s served for 10yrs, and followed in the foot steps of DH who served in the RAF for 35yrs.

It is not the right thing for everyone to do. It's the right thing for you, and that's great for you, but it's not the right thing for me or for OP's DD.

The problem is that you're stating that it's the right thing to wear a poppy, that it's disrespectful not to and that it's ignorant not to.

You’ve been very insulting about people who don’t want to wear them though. And ignorant.

So if a child wants to say no they are free to say no, if they have no idea what they want then it is the parents putting their ideas on to their children so they are doing the same things as the organisers

Or the parents could volunteer to help

JaneDoeHere · 05/11/2024 20:00

You are bullies. Shame on you.

Anyone with an ounce of understanding could see what I was saying, but no, I got a pile on.

Thankfully I have more to my life than you arrogant and ignorant and offensive people. God help your children, with parents like you.

It’s not bullying for someone to have a different opinion to you and I haven’t seen one single personal attack, feel free to reference the post because otherwise you’re just making stuff up.

I'm not sure I've seen where you've been attacked. You've been responded to and told you're wrong. People keep quoting you because you keep going on and on and on and not taking other people's views on board and contradicting yourself and making points then dismissing them when people say you're wrong to try your best to be right.
If you think you've been the victim of personal attacks, that's not ok and you should report the specific posts to MN to look at for you.

You were the one that told posters that they were failing to instil values in their children. Pretty nasty and uncalled for.

You’re the person whose posts have manifested a grotesque ignorance. People are pointing that out. See it as an educational experience. We’ve all had them.

Nah, you insulted a boatload of people and now you're whining because you're getting pushback. Never, ever post contentious narrow-minded crap on MN unless you're robust enough to take a flaming in return.

Completelyjo · 05/11/2024 20:05

Imagine saying it’s ignorant to not wear a poppy and then state you have no interest knowing about the British army in NI. 🤦‍♀️

Here’s an idea, stop being ignorant about your own country while making moronic sweeping statements and then claiming you’re being bullied because people don’t agree with your offensive and woefully uninformed posts.

Marblesbackagain · 05/11/2024 20:05

Oh and to be fair ,@JaneDoeHere my children thankfully have the realistic chance of not being shot by the army these days, so yep I am grateful. Pity it took decades.

JaneDoeHere · 05/11/2024 18:40

Hey, if you want to wear a swastika go for it! You’ll probably have a lot of support unfortunately.

Hopefully most people can see how awful this comment and comparison is.

I'm just comparing the compulsory wearing of badges. Dictatorial, no?

sprigatito · 05/11/2024 20:07

I think some of these poppy fascists are the descendants of the Brits who thought the famine was a jolly good thing in the long run, tbh. Foul, small-minded Anglocentric mentality.

JaneDoeHere · 05/11/2024 20:08

Imagine being so full of venom that you are attacking someone for wanting to wear a poppy. Just stop already. I know why you are attacking me and it’s tiresome. I’ve said my points and made myself clear and I’m being bullied for the sake of it.

I had an opinion and bloody hell! You didn’t agree! Well thank goodness we are allowed more than one opinion in the world.

Americano75 · 05/11/2024 20:09

It'll be a cold day in hell before I wear the poppy. And if my choice is "disrespectful" then that's just a bonus.

Marblesbackagain · 05/11/2024 20:09

Ignorance isn't an opinion.

IKEAJesus · 05/11/2024 20:10

I haven’t seen anyone attacking anyone who wants to wear a poppy. Just people who don’t want to be forced into wearing one themselves.

Literally no one cares if you want to wear a poppy. No one.
