Another fatal dog attack

upat4am · 04/11/2024 00:41

So saddened by the news a 10 year old girl has been killed by what sounds to be an XL Bully.

I'm shocked that any family would keep one after so many attacks. There are worse things than kindly being PTS.

It seems like the same line every time "loving family dog, never done anything like this".

How many do there have to be before people realise any XL Bully has it in them. It's not their fault, they're not bad dogs, it's just genetic the same way a dachshund barks or a spaniel's tail wags the dog.

OP posts:

I know of someone who has two xl bulldogs they're both entire males and he won't put a muzzle on them as the attitude is who's going to enforce it
Just terrible behaviour

whathaveiforgotten · 04/11/2024 12:56

@Farfarout

I think losing a child is sentence enough.

Would you say that about a parent whose child died due to them drink driving? Or one whose child died ingesting drugs they left out?

Genuine question, would you really?

Mumofnarnia · 04/11/2024 13:08

Farfarout · 04/11/2024 10:09

I think losing a child is sentence enough.

I do agree that remaining XL bullies should be killed.

I don’t agree with your comment about losing a child is sentence enough! They recently acquired the dog so they knew it was illegal and were completely irresponsible by letting a dog of that nature anywhere near a child let alone living in a caravan with said dog and children! Another family who thought they were above the law and that their recently acquired ‘family pet’ wouldn’t harm a fly. Some people just seem to think the law doesn’t apply to them and that they’re invincible so they just ignore the rules! For that reason they should feel the full force of the law!

SpudleyLass · 04/11/2024 00:59

All XL bullies should be culled. No exceptions, no muzzles and no compensation to owners.

100% agree. Why would anyone want to the risk?

He has a point. Who, indeed? No one has.

Bloody hell. I mean what are we doing with this threat in public

Green shield stamps ?

TheUsualChaos · 04/11/2024 13:40

I say this as a dog owner and animal lover. All dangerous breeds need to be culled now. It's completely out of control. The government have let this go for too long and been ridiculously soft. There is just no place for them in the homes of families and residential areas. There are also certain breeds which should be working dogs only. So many dogs are living unfulfilled lives in unsuitable family homes leading to behaviour problems. Lock down seems to have caused an explosion in dog problems in the UK.

There are so many laws designed to improve children's safety yet small children can legally live with unmuzzled dangerous dogs and nothing is done until someone is hurt or worse. Government is utterly spineless when it comes to dog control.

No idea what you mean

That was an image of man after being mauled by a dog on the street

KoalaCalledKevin · 04/11/2024 13:43

And of course the lovely responsible owner of the dog who I'm sure had never ever hurt a fly before ran away from the scene.

SerendipityJane · 04/11/2024 13:43

The government have let this go for too long and been ridiculously soft.

Successive governments have. And frankly who can blame them ? Any serious action is just going to feed into the media sponsored culture wars that are an essential part of life in the 21st century where a vocal shouty minority can easily outshout the majority.

Well if the image didn't achieve anything, you may as well issue green shield stamps. Or cuddly toys to survivors.

The time to act was when the first person was killed. Not the tenth. Or twentieth.

Yes I agree with you there. We seem to be sliding backwards on being prompted to act as deaths become more common

We are as bad as the US when it comes to soft words after gun fatalities but our issue is lethal dogs

Children die and then what? It's ridiculous, they are just dogs, which act like weapons at times at that. We don't have a complicated constitution inhibiting us, just change the laws.

Every week or so we get these threads, then nothing. It's maddening

@Spondoolies that's the frightening thing. How many people have an XL that has bitten, nipped, snarled at a family member but it's been kept quiet as they don't want the dog taken away as it's their "soppy, cuddly baby"- usually.

As long as these dogs exist, this will be regular news. It isn't the dogs fault, its the idiots who purposely engineer the breeds, and someone somewhere is already trying to come up with a new breed of "status dog" and we'll go through it all over again.

I agree. The law enforcers are far too soft. I don't care if "losing a child is sentence enough". They still need to face court for it and receive a suitable punishment as determined by a judge and jury. There's too much of crimes going unpunished by cosy deals between police and CPS.

We had a case near us. An elderly lady driving the wrong way on a motorway causing absolute chaos. Police made a statement that it wasn't in the public interest to prosecute due to her age! FFS! That was the same week 4 out of 5 members of a family were wiped out by another driver going the wrong way down a motorway pretty close by leaving a child without its parents and siblings.

I don't give a toss about whether these people have "suffered enough" etc - the LAW is the LAW and pen pushers shouldn't be making these decisions. Judge and Jury all the way!

Exactly! I have no sympathy for the parents. They knew what they were doing when they acquired the XL bully and they obviously didn’t care about the child enough to protect her, they were more bothered about status. I can’t stand arrogant people who think the law doesn’t apply to them.

My heart breaks for that poor child and what she must have gone through. It was a completely unavoidable situation! I mean, who the fuck goes out and purposely acquires a banned breed?? Just completely selfish in my opinion!

SerendipityJane · 04/11/2024 14:13

I can remember when Rottweilers were the devil dog of the day - early 90s.

we need to face up to the fact that the UK and it's population are - by demonstration of their actions - quite happy to accept a level of death and maiming as the price of allowing dogs to roam freely. Maybe we'll find it liberating ? Who knows ?

Sorry meant to say completely avoidable situation!

louisbalfournice · 04/11/2024 14:41

These dogs are banned but still a threat

TrixieFatell · 04/11/2024 14:59

Of course the parents should face legal consequences. They brought a weapon into their house that had the potential of killing someone, and it did. I have no idea why anyone wants something that could kill them living in their house, let alone if they have children. I'm scared of big dogs anyway so would never have one but I chose the dog I have on the basis if they ever snapped or bit they could be easily subdued, or escaped (you would just have to jump on the couch). I know someone who has two of these animals, and constantly makes posts about blame the deed not the breed, how soft her babies are, how they'd not hurt anyone. Any dog owner who doesn't understand that dogs are animals and all have the potential to turn should not be allowed a dog .

Exactly. If they truly cared about their child they would never, ever have bought a banned, attack dog. I expect they'll just go on to have more children which they'll neglect and take for granted. If they have another girl they'll probably give her Savannah as her middle name as a tribute <heaves>.

No doubt her Dad will have Savannah tattooed somewhere about their person and there'll be numerous plastic flowers, cheap teddies and garish balloons adorning her 'shrine'.

There will be a whole host of empty, meaningless gestures to demonstrate what loving parents they were......other than, you know, actually acting responsibly and keeping their child fucking safe.
