I’ll start.

That having a one syllable first name and surname is an absolute no no.

I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone. It's not because I'm scared, it's because it will be someone trying to get money out of me or a Jehovah Witness.

It might not be though.
Plus - we had JWs call round recently, asked if I wanted to hear about their faith, so I politely declined and they said thank you and went on their way.
Really, not a problem.

EmpressOfTheThread · 02/11/2024 15:38

I didn't know that Irish people give massive amounts of money as wedding gifts. They really are very generous.

Creates the illusion of shadows under the eyes.
I've never used a moon cup in my life. Always used tampons.

I have never noticed the shadow thing on myself or others!

I have to go down a flight of stairs to answer the door. It's a problem to me. I don't want to go down the stairs and find out it's someone asking for money or someone promoting a religion. If it's someone I know, they'll call.

Right. What if it's something important?

And my contribution is that I didn’t know MN was full of quick witted and hilarious posters like the one who picked up the funny typo! I feel we don’t get as many laugh out loud these days as I did at that.

And so so many things. MN is an eduction.

This! Come on OP nobody is laughing at you - tilypu could be the start of a whole classic thread!

My pregnant neighbour was alone, her husband had the car and was at work. She developed a severe pain and needed someone to drive her to the hospital. I was the only neighbour who answered the door, and drove her there. Others were at home.
Secondly, I saw a debit card on someone's drive, next to the car. I could see and hear people through the window, but no-one answered the door. I didn't want to leave it, so reported it to the bank who thanked me and told me to cut it up.
Just two examples, out of many.

The police will come to your home at 5am if you report a light left on, milk out of the fridge and tiny spots on your cistern.

Many people got furious about this but it turned out to be justified. A neighbour had been breaking in and stealing stuff.

Like what?

A neighbour came round to us a few years back because she'd come home and found her house had been burgled.
She was by herself, scared and upset, and just wanted to be in company straight away. The nearest company was us, next door, even though we didn't know her that well.
Obviously, we were glad to help.
I know it's hardly a common occurrence, but things do crop up.

That too many fanny washers have access to a keyboard

What's that supposed to mean?
If you haven't got one to wash, you do know you're not welcome here don't you?

That wasn't the case on the first thread. She called the police not on the basis of theft, breaking and entering, but because "weird stuff" was happening. ie milk and lights
The theft has only been discussed on today's second thread.

That so many people are thick enough to let jk Rowling tell them how to think

I found out that JK Rowling thinks the same way as me.

I found out that "narcissist" or "narc" is the current way to describe anyone you don't like or has annoyed you.

🤣 that did make me lol. I do have one but haven't seen it properly for a while. It's probably overdue a wash. It's a term I think not in common parlance.

I don't know my neighbours. I'm not going to let a stranger in because they say they need company. I also live on a terraced street, there are plenty of houses to try in the area. I'm not going to answer every knock on the door in case it's an emergency.

InconsideratelyThoughtful · 02/11/2024 15:57

I didn't know there was such a thing as emotional abuse. It was such an eye opener for me, it was what my husband had been doing to me for a long time.

I don't care if you answer your door or not - I don't know you from Adam.
A PP said it could be something important, you asked "Like what?" so I gave an example of something I considered important.
I'm not trying to persuade you to venture to your front door.
