To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

During lockdowns people couldn't get Botox. I noticed the difference in my own face, it all sagged a bit and I looked older and tired . I was delighted when restrictions were lifted and I could once again look fresh.

Someone I know took matters into her own hands - literally. She bought Botox online (not from the UK). It came with needles and face masks indicating where you should inject for whatever outcome you wanted . Her and her sister then injected one another using the masks as a guide.

The outcome was horrendous. She was absolutely smooth and wrinkle free but her whole face shape was distorted - to the point that when I arrived to meet her at an agreed place I didn't recognise her and walked past her.

She is still doing it because obviously it's much cheaper than going to a reputable doctor. She is absolutely thrilled with the results but I find it hard to even look at what was once a very pretty face.

Is it just a UK/US thing? I was on holiday in Italy and where we stayed there was a good mix of other nationalities, not many Brits, and it was striking how natural everyone looked. I hadn't realised until I saw one 'filled' face/lips (British person) and then realised how normal and natural everyone else looked in comparison.

I see Tess Daly and fallen fowl to the dreaded turkey teeth

I see what you did there 😂😂

rainbowbee · 02/11/2024 10:43

My office is in an under-privileged part of the city and giant teeth, giant lips and giant lashes are the norm for girls around there. I think it looks so cheap.

Oh, I was holding back. Not only do these identikit girls with their duck lips and slug eyebrows look incredibly thick, they also look extremely lower-class!

No need to be a misogynistic twat though, that's really not a good look for any woman.

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/11/2024 11:04

Bearing in mind that the vast majority of people (generally ) don’t keep their natural teeth clean enough.
I predict a lot of dental problems in the next decade for the turkey teeth brigade

That poster seems a little too angry bout the way that other women look too. Not liking a look is verging on anger, why?? Those that doth protest too much...

I don't like the look, but I don't feel angry about it and certainly do not feel the need to rant, like some on this thread.
Maybe a look in the mirror for these posters is required, as I bet all of that venom from within does not show well on the outside!

Hopefully. What would have been the equivalent 10 or 15 years ago? Boob jobs? They do seem less of a thing now.

I remember seeing four elderly ladies walking along the seafront in Tenerife with the most ridiculously inflated boobs. Their bodies from the neck down (neck, arms, legs) were wrinkled and they looked like caricatures of a woman.

IcyLilacZebra · 02/11/2024 12:36

They already look bad I have never followed the whole fake eyelashes tan and lip filler thing it just doesn't look good at all

It seems to differ by regions of the UK too. I notice it much more in some places than others (I don't dare to say where).

I can cope with it.

I am arrogant though, because I'm pretty awesome. Maybe that's why I don't feel the need to foam at the mouth over what other people do with their eyebrows.

You clearly can't cope with it when you're trying to silence people. You know what I do when I don't like a thread? I go find another one.

I agree, I'm aware of the look being discussed but it's not something I see in my office, at the school gate, or around the town generally. But I assume from some of these comments that in some areas it's more common.

CharlotteLucas3 · 02/11/2024 13:37

I barely saw any women with lip filler when I lived in Cambridge. Now I live near Huddersfield and I see loads. I find it very difficult not to stare so I do wonder whether this is usual and whether these women feel a bit self conscious with people not reacting naturally towards them.

I also find it a bit odd that the women I see with obvious lip filler generally make no effort with any other aspect of their appearance, which indicates to me that they're doing it because it's fashionable without any real thought to the aesthetics. Some of them have a lot of migration and no actual lips - the filler is all sitting around the mouth and it looks hard.

Regarding the teeth, some do look nice if they're done in a natural way. I prefer slightly crooked teeth myself but they have to be crooked in an attractive way.

This is definitely true and it can vary even within towns a few miles apart.
I recently went to the opticians and somehow got talking about this very subject. She is based in a pretty well off area but had to spend some time working in a much poorer place about ten miles away( more up the South Wales valleys), she said there was a huge increase in the number of women there with obvious lip filler, fake tan, long pointed patterned nails etc.

And the thing is that veneers don't last a lifetime, they will need to be replaced - at a considerable expense.
They really only should be considered if really needed when you are young.

But i'm a bit old fashioned and feel the same way about too many tattoos which are also there forever...

@Colourfulduvets Yep, I feel the same as a 50-year-old. If it’s reversible, go for it, if not think long and hard about it!

I have nothing against tattoos, but I’’m now v. aware of what happens when your skin starts to lose its elasticity. Many of my friends have a single tattoo and it still looks fine, although it’s slightly lost its definition.

I wouldn’t recommend a sleeve though, they can look really saggy.

You, and many others on this thread, should thank their lucky stars that your face doesn't match your personality, because THAT is truly as ugly as sin.

Yes to ageing with lots of tattoos, it's going to be interesting to see how some look with time.

It's the same with a lot of these things, as you get older you realise how your body & face change and I wonder how some of the cosmetic changes made in your twenties will look when you reach your fifties and beyond.

But I guess things are changing all the time and no doubt there will be a new procedure along to take care of it if enough people need it.

BruFord · 02/11/2024 14:55

True, @Colourfulduvets , if you’ve got the money, you can generally get something fixed!

DaringDrew · 02/11/2024 15:13

I can’t believe people are equating plucking eyebrows with injecting filler and Botox. Not in the same league.

I am in my fifties and actually like my wrinkles. I am confident and think I look pretty good! No implants, filler or Botox. I do love shopping and fashion though.

My 18y daughter hates the fake look. But she said what hope do she and her friends have if the pressure is on to stay looking ‘young’ forever. She says when she is fifty, will everyone be injecting and filling their faces with crap?

I think it’s crazy what women are doing to their faces now. It actually depresses me. Esp the fake lips. It’s never a good look. I see it on TV and social media rather than in real life. My kids and their peers really don’t embrace this look at all. And neither do my friends thankfully.

DaringDrew · 02/11/2024 15:16

OT but I would discourage anyone from having a tattoo based on this recent Lancet study:
www.thelancet.com/journals/eclinm/article/PIIS2589-5370(24)00228-1/fulltext

Our findings suggested that tattoo exposure was associated with an increased risk of malignant lymphoma. More epidemiologic research is urgently needed to establish causality.

Injecting stuff in your body other than researched medical products isn’t a great idea.

My kids are late teens and are the same in not liking the 'fake' look. They and their friends aren't fans of sleeve tattoos either.

I wonder if it will die out as each generation want to be a bit different than the one before

Bewareofthisonetoo · 02/11/2024 15:23

Agree it makes them all look the same and aged 42😂
