To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

I think Felicity Kendal looks a bit strange these days, took me a while to recognise her in Ludwig.

A face-lift too far, also see Lulu.

I want young people to experiment with looks it’s part of growing up. The issue I have with fillers and veneers is that neither are fully reversible. Slug eyebrows and heavy make up can be removed but these interventions may have lifelong consequences.

Cheaper veneers wreck your teeth so there is no going back. Filler migrates rather than breaks down completely and the dissolving process is not risk free (it will dissolve your own hyaluronic acid not just the filler). Only HA fillers can be dissolved.

It worries me that young people are being pushed to make permanent changes to their body.

And the thing is that veneers don't last a lifetime, they will need to be replaced - at a considerable expense.
They really only should be considered if really needed when you are young.

But i'm a bit old fashioned and feel the same way about too many tattoos which are also there forever...

Oh, I was holding back. Not only do these identikit girls with their duck lips and slug eyebrows look incredibly thick, they also look extremely lower-class!

Edited

Oh no, imagine looking lower class, how awful it must be to look like a completely normal social class.

Azureal · 02/11/2024 08:38

It makes young women look older too. One of the MAFS brides, Amy I think, is apparently 27. My daughter thought she was about 40, and so did my mum...

Gummybear23 · 02/11/2024 06:46

BS. If that is the case
why don't these people avoid sun not worry and eat better if it avoids wrinkles.
Instead of fillers and giant lips?

Because they don't have access to a time machine?

Yes definitely very ageing!

Sometimes you see pics of celebs and their daughters and both look the same middle-aged age.

Breast implants also need to be replaced, more expense plus the added risks of major surgery.

Well why are you on Mumsnet if you can't cope with it? How dare you come on here and tell us what you deem 'inappropriate' to talk about. Your arrogance is astounding.

I can cope with it.

I am arrogant though, because I'm pretty awesome. Maybe that's why I don't feel the need to foam at the mouth over what other people do with their eyebrows.

tillylula · 02/11/2024 08:56

I said to my mum yesterday, are women getting this stuff done for men or other women? I don't know any bloke who likes women looking that fake.

PumpkinPantz · 02/11/2024 09:17

I worked with a woman in her early 20s who looks exactly like her mum in her early 40s.
I felt sorry for her, she was really lovely. She was always going on dates with very natural looking guys, her type, which didn’t go anywhere probably because she wasn’t their type.

TheWorminLabyrinth · 02/11/2024 09:23

What a disgusting thread.

The horror of looking "lower class" and "chavvy".

I think some of us on here have young daughters/nieces etc of our own & perhaps feel concerned at the influence this all has over them.
I certainly worry for my own daughters who are insecure about things about themselves having seen something on TikTok...

@pavementgerms . But what do they do when there's a power cut? They still have the same face, yet nowhere but reality to show it.

😂

BobbyBiscuits · 02/11/2024 09:51

@SabrinaCarpentersCeilingFan I have composites on 12 of my top teeth. I know that's different to those 'turkey teeth' veneers.
I've had my nose smashed in three times by men so I need rhinoplasty surgery that cost over 10k. Which obviously I cant afford. So I know about trauma.
I don't know why you think I'm making a judgement against you personally? There's a certain unnatural look that seems on trend at the moment and that's clearly what is being talked about.

mouldypumpkin · 02/11/2024 10:07

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 01/11/2024 21:17

Who knows what people will think in years to come, but they look appalling so I hope it's a fashion that will go away. I doubt their faces will go back to normal and I suspect those who've had cheap dentistry in turkey will regret it in later years.
I love seeing old films and TV programmes where people( women) have got their natural faces and teeth, they're capable of so much more expression and to me that's so important for actors.
I think the fashion for fillers etc is a particularly British and American thing, you certainly don't see so many wrong looking filler faces on Scandinavian or french TV programmes.
I have noticed that those drawn on huge black eyebrows seem to be on the way out so hopefully fillers etc will go that way too.

I’m in Scandinavia and I agree. If you see someone with a certain fake look like that you just know they are from the UK or America. It’s weird and not a good look.

cwcanfo · 02/11/2024 10:10

Not sure why a lot of people don't seem to realize that the thread is discussing the turkey teeth look where most of the teeth are shaved down to small stumps and crowns/veneers fitted. It's not about people having composite bonding (which I have due to tetracycline staining of my front teeth) or the type of veneers cosmetic dentists in the UK do where a small amount of tooth is shaved to fit veneers and only on teeth that really need it.

These young people are going abroad (often to Turkey) and having treatment on most if not all of their teeth where the teeth are shaved right down and veneers fitted (they say veneers but they are more like crowns). Just look on youtube to see lots of videos of people getting them done, most of them have nice teeth to start with with perhaps a couple of small imperfections.

It's preying on these young people's vulnerability. The vast majority of them should be offered some other kind of cosmetic treatment if they are unhappy with minor imperfections - not encouraged to have every tooth shaved down which will have serious consequences later in life.
And the problem with "the look" is that the more it is seen on reality TV, tiktok, instagram and so on, the more unhappy other people become with teeth which are actually nice looking and healthy.

amoreoamicizia · 02/11/2024 10:13

Shame on you thin lippers for firstly emulating fuller lips that are a natural endowment and often an ethnic feature for some of us, and then spitefully and hypocritically turning around to demean and mock what we have!

You can never be us that are born this way, no matter what you inject 💋 I'm sorry for you 😄 💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋

unlikelywitch · 02/11/2024 10:15

They already look very dated. I find it incredibly sad that some women feel they need to inject filler into their faces and replace perfectly healthy teeth with tombstone veneers in order to feel good about themselves.

I’m from a working class town where this type of thing is quite prevalent and from my own observations, it’s a lot to do with living life through Instagram - they look good on insta (well what they perceive as looking good) and don’t realise or care about how they look in person. It totally skews their perception.

Turkey teeth and hair transplants on men are ten a penny here as well but they almost feel like a status symbol more than anything else. Sort of like a Range Rover and new build with a hot tub in the back garden.

mouldypumpkin · 02/11/2024 10:16

FfsBrian · 01/11/2024 21:50

My friend who sells Tropic also said that she heard the face collapses when you stop having Botox.

Both women are wrong. The body is incredibly good at healing and believe it or not they go back to their natural shape. Same with the new fillers - not Leslie Ash style filler though.

I agree with the teeth. The older ones will need replacing in ten years and its whether people can afford it. My daughter had hers done in Dubai and they actually look very subtle and lovely, you cant tell - looks like she just had a brace when she was younger. People who get them on the cheap in Turkey are most likely going to regret having them done or maybe they wont! If it suits the wearer - bugger the starer!

Of course you can tell. Did your daughter grind her teeth down too?

I didn’t know you had to do this, it’s shocking!

Ihateboris · 02/11/2024 10:17

Regarding fillers, this video is really shocking. It's about 12 minutes long but well worth watching.

Naturally full lips are beautiful though. It's the look that people are going for. Unfortunately, you can't replicate the look artificially. You either have it or you don't. Maybe small amounts of filler can look good on some people. However, most of the time you see someone with filled lips you think "they've had filler", not "they have lovely full lips".

Ideally people should embrace what they have, and not shame anyone for having thin lips, full lips, small breasts, big breasts, being naturally thin or naturally curvier etc

MauveCritic · 02/11/2024 10:24

It's so weird; it's all had the opposite effect on me. I see women with regular mouths and teeth, and I think they are the most beautiful creatures I've seen. (Not all of them, but you get the drift.) I can't stand this look or the overfilled, frozen faces. I've taken to watching movies from the '90s backwards to see ordinary people again.

amoreoamicizia · 02/11/2024 10:26

Oh really? If you think I didn't hear some variation on "baboon's arse", "trout pout" or most shockingly " ___ lips", the same language employed throughout this thread, almost every day growing up then you are wrong. And now as an adult I'm seeing just the same words here, probably from the same types of people. "Oh but we didn't mean you!".

Didn't you?

You can't throw about this kind of language, the self-same bullying and derogatory, racist language and expect me and others like me to remain impervious to it.

You can of course have them done well so that they don't look fake, the same as with any cosmetic surgery, in which case we won't we sniggering about turkey teeth because we won't know! The problem is that most people when they spend thousands of pounds don't want natural with blemishes and imperfections. They want bling - teeth like marble tombstones and knockers like balloons.

Greenpolka · 02/11/2024 10:31

As a 40+ year old women my mouth is far sexier than any younger women's mouth I've seen who's had their mouth augmented. I also look younger and more attractive due to having good genes and not one bit of work done! None of these women pumping themselves with fillers will look attractive when they hit 40+
