It's 3pm and already we've had people trick n treating. I've now brought pumpkins inside until 5ish. Anyone else?

@Zimunya my friends said “trick” and kids look at them looking bemused. A kid said “what’s a treat?” Well you asked trick, didn’t you?

Why go trick or treating when kids don’t have a trick or two?

Last year a girl hung about after I gave her a sweet, then said “what happens if I ask you for a trick?” 🤣 I explained that actually it was her who had to offer a trick or joke and she shrieked, running away saying “but I don’t know any!!!”

Brilliant can't wait for it to start, the more the merrier!

This is my mantra too. It’s great fun! I’ve been set up since 4pm.
I’m a bit disappointed that I’ve hardly had anyone yet. Got my little ghoul projection in the front window, big caldron full of sweets and chocolate and I’ve only had a couple 😔
My kid went out trick or treating with uncle earlier they did 4.30-5.30pm

😂 I've had a joke, a cartwheel, a very elaborate spell put on me and a dance routine! Pretty impressed.

Still have sweets left though

TheSnugHare · 31/10/2024 19:03

I only went trick or treating a few times when I was a child. But now that I think about it, why is trick or treating even a thing? Who thought of it and what’s the point? I’ve always thought you can just go and get whatever sweets you want at the shop. Too much sugar is bad for kids. I’m not some kind of grinch, but it’s sad that Halloween traditions have been lost and it’s all been turned into a meaningless thing for children.

WickedGoodDoge · 31/10/2024 19:04

I’m dressed up as a witch and just answered the door to a (approx) 7 year old ninja turtle who took one look at me and announced “You’re not even scary!” 😂😂😂

I'm a meanie! I don't have kids and I don't want random children knocking on my door. The dogs go bananas. Why let your kids knock on random strangers doors, just go to friends, family and neighbours who join in.
What's the bah humbug equivalent of Halloween? That's me!

There is no harm in knocking on strangers' doors if the house is decorated. What do you think is going to happen? And please don't say anything about how kids should be wary of strangers

DopeyS · 31/10/2024 19:05

Sillysausage76 · 31/10/2024 15:14

Cause I can't put up with the dog going mad, these kids weren't tiny. I'll put um back out in a hour.

Had to read that twice. I thought you had kidnapped the children 😂. Thought you were going to put them back out in an hour!

Hazeby · 31/10/2024 19:06

Bloody hell, it’s not difficult.

If you want to partake, put a pumpkin out and give the sweets to whoever knocks.

If you don’t, don’t put anything out and don’t answer the door.

It really doesn’t need to be more complicated than that.

Not just for kids, I always enjoyed taking my dds out & I like giving out treats now. And a few sugary treats isn't going to harm them. They don't need to eat them all in one go

Ellsx6 · 31/10/2024 19:07

We had a couple of toddlers come at around 5 for their first Halloween (I always get Freddos as an option for the baby's) then from about half 5 non stop kids..we've gone through 4 huge multipacks so far. A lot more than last year! We do live in a very nice community area and most houses take part. I really love it!

VegTrug · 31/10/2024 16:52

@VeterinaryCareAssistant It's always half term on Halloween.
Grinches refers to Christmas

Also, some of us work from home! Why should I have to get up countless times just because kids can’t be bothered to consider other people! Not everyone is sat at home day in day out, doing nothing

😂😂😂😂 So grumpy it's funny!

RangerDanger · 31/10/2024 19:08

I put a pumpkin in the window and bought a few multipacks of Haribo. Was surprised to find they all went in about twenty minutes. Never had that many before. Apparently there's not many houses decorated this year.

I really wanted to not be miserable. The door sets the dog off and our toddler is asleep, but I wanted to be part of it and do something fun for the kids on the street. Just didn't end up feeling it. Most kids were nice but the ones without manners just put me in a bad mood.

Grabbing handfuls of sweets. Really loud and prolonged knocking at the door. Screaming outside. The "trick or treat, smell my feet" song which (perhaps irrationally) annoys me. Like I said, most of them are nice but I do find it hard not to be irritated. Alas, next year I'll buy a lot more sweets and hand the kids one instead of offering the bowl.

😂😂😂 noone has commented on my Skeleton costume yet!

I keep freaking them out by knocking on the door before I open it. Have had a few shrieks!

You’re doing it all wrong.
Stop handing out tenners and get to Tesco for cheap sweets instead?

I am so annoyed. We finally had our first one and DS1 was downstairs when they knocked and opened it up and threw handfuls of sweets at them them shut the door,

I was in the loo and flipping missed it.

Jesus. Just don't answer. No need to throw things at them.

Are you so disrespectful to the traditions of other cultures?

Trick or treating is a Halloween tradition though. ‘Guising’ was recorded in Scotland in the 16th century. Wiki it!!

No, of course not! 😂

I'm not in the UK. But I think if I was, I'd be adapting something like this, which I saw posted on an Aussie site 😂
