Right, well, first off, I love it here. i especially love it because there are plenty of intelligent, witty posters.
However, I am frequently surprised at threads relating to pornography, exchanging sex for "gifts" and fanjo shaving, etc. Now, I know we've all got different ideas about what is acceptable, but sometimes it's like feminism never happened.

v. all the career women who make lots of money but are miserable?

i don't see much of a difference.

i think i was conned into thinking an office sort of career was the greatest thing.

i think it blows.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:57

one last thing dsm. You don't have to have 'strong-points' to make porn, just tits and a cunt.
sorry to be bald (boom-boom) but that, after all, is what it all comes down to.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:58

fgs why mmj?

It does involve a lot of work. Being born with the books to model/dance and utilising that has been critisised, and I am defending it.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:58

ruty, where is policywonk when she's needed?

ruty · 25/04/2008 14:59
Grin
Oblomov · 25/04/2008 14:59

oh I do suspect that modelling can be hard work. And VERY boring at times. And pressurised to be a certain size/type.
I mean when kate moss types become fashionable, you could be out of work if you are not the 'en vougue', type of the moment.

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 14:59

To be fair I wouldn't like to do it and yes before my three children I would have given Kylie a run for her money on the arse front and am quite similar in build with larger breasts oh and with a very nice face, don't mean to boast but you did ask! I earnt £62k in my first year of 9-5, so per hour not as much as a stripper but my career climbed. I would also say that if I were a nurse or a teacher the rewards of healing or teaching far outweigh keeping a man happily in the state of an erection and far more important, not to mention the fact you can teach over 35 without looking sad and pathetic.
My dp who also doesn't strip earns £118 per hour and he doesn't take his clothes off either!

cushioncover · 25/04/2008 15:00

And wouldn't everyone be on here whinging at the pretty girl living on benefits who should go out and get a bloody job?

Oh no wait...We're on here whinging that she got a bloody job.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 15:01

Expat - agree with all you say.

OBM - You have to be attractive and good at sex. Bendy helps.

But thats for money-making, feature porn. Anyone can make amateur porn which is, obviously, not paid. Its homemade by people who are turned on by others watching them. It makes up the majority of the porn industry now.

So no, you don't have to have strong points to make porn. You have to have strong points to make money from porn.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 15:01

dsm re: number of hours - my point still stands. Since they are making far more per hour than in any other profession it is pretty bloody unlikely that they are going to be able to be objective about how genuinely they enjoy their jobs.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 15:02

You are SO mistaken, DSM, if you believe that what the industry tells you is 'amateur' actually is. It is just cheap. The 'amateur' tag is simply a marketing tool, and clearly a very successful one.

Oblomov · 25/04/2008 15:03

Are yuo only allowed on this thread if you are a Kylie look-alike with a brazillian, then ?

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 15:04

What strong points do you have to make money from porn? A stretchy anus? Maybe a good surgeon? A willingness to do anything in front of a large crew? A taste for semen? What strong point do you need?

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 15:04

I don't think you do have to be attractive or good at sex, DSM, to be in an 'amateur' porno, which as you say is now dominating the market. You just have to not object, for many of them. Being good at sex is quite different imo.

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 15:05

Oblomov, 'eh? dsm asked me if I could have sold my body, I argued that I had the looks just also had the brain to do somethng else!

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 15:05

Posie - you are obviously very lucky that you can make that much money, and your DH as well. Not everyone is able to earn as much as that, I have a degree but can't imagine what job I could get that would ever earn me £62k! Thats a very large salary and many people do not earn that high.

A nurse or teacher earns nothing like that.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 15:05

excellent PP - or a good surgeon who will fix that prolapsed stretchy anus.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 15:07

There are different types of amateur. There is feature amateur, which do indeed tend to be low-budget features, and actual amateur, which is homemade, by real people. This is what I was referring to, and I did state that earlier.

Trust me, I am not mistaken.

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 15:08

No a teacher gets far more from her job than money, like your job the best thing about mine was the money but not the only reason I did it.
People do other jobs because they love it not because they earn a lot. There's a lot to be said for earning a good honest living where happiness prevails over pay packet.
My dp loves his job, would he love it so much if he earnt lots less... shit no way he'd take the pressure for the same as a teacher earns, but that't the trade.

Oblomov · 25/04/2008 15:09

Posie, I think a large % of the Mumsnet population do not earn 62K.

cushioncover · 25/04/2008 15:12

This thread isn't about porn though, is it? It about the depressing fact that we can't just be happy for or even indifferent to women who make different lifestyle choices to ourselves.

IMHO, women are held back by and undermined by the attitudes of other women far more than they are by men.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 15:12

I could earn a lot more than I do, but I love my job. And many, many people who I work with love their jobs (obviously not all, but not all teachers and nurses love their jobs, do they)

Which if these jobs do you feel is more 'acceptable'?

a) 9-5 mon-fri (40 hours a week) working in an office for an advertising company.
b) various hours on various day (av. 20 hours a week) as a model and dancer

Both earn £40k.

Which one do you think is more 'worthy'?

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 15:13

Cushioncover - I agree

zippitippitoes · 25/04/2008 15:14

i wish i could earn money [period

we had thois shaving and feminism debate lasst week or is that what you mean

i am well educated but sadly unemployable

and i shave my legs and armpits and trim elsewhere

it doesnt seem to have improved my chances of getting a job

i suffer age discrimination and over qualification rather than sex discrimination

and i do find a lot of the sex talk on mn entertaining

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 15:14

I think the same, it's not relevant to this argument how much I earn except I wanted to explain that it can be done.... but I'd take a low salary with a great career path over taking my clothes off any day. My dp started his working life on £8k a year and at 34 he's on over £200k, with no degree. If you want something bad enough and with a little luck you can end up with a good income and a job you feel proud of. I think the lads mags and lapdancing culture that we're in, the quick 5 minute celebrity, offers quick rewards for no effort and a happy life isn't made of things like that. It's made of reaping what you so (accidental bible ref.) and feeling like you deserve it.
