To worry about sweets from trick or treating…

Just had a horrible thought… when we go trick or treating, what if we are given dodgy sweets? I mean I know it isn’t likely but unless you know everyone you go to, how can you guarantee they aren’t giving your kid drugs?! Does this worry anyone else?!

No

Scutterbug · 29/10/2024 22:39

No, never worried me when mine were the ages to go.

fashionqueen0123 · 29/10/2024 22:40

Why would you even imagine that.

BalletCat · 29/10/2024 22:41

Seems a ridiculous thing to worry about why would anyone waste drugs on kids? They're expensive!

If you're that worried don't take them, lots of people don't want kids banging on their doors all night.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 29/10/2024 22:41

Christ. There’s a COL crisis. No one is going to be giving away free drugs to kids.

This is next level paranoia OP, are you ok?

Stichintime · 29/10/2024 22:41

Highly unlikely, but if you're worried try one first. If you start being sleepy, hallucinating or have any other strange feelings don't give them to the kids.

Baconandddddeggs · 29/10/2024 22:41

Really simple - don’t go to anyone you don’t know .

don’t understand why anyone would go knocking on strangers door - keep to neighbours / friends who celebrate Halloween too.

AngryBookworm · 29/10/2024 22:42

Why would they give them drugs? It's the most ridiculous urban myth. If I were a drug dealer what possible incentive would I have to give away my stash, for free, to children?

Noseybookworm · 29/10/2024 22:43

Don't be ridiculous 🙄

WonderingWanda · 29/10/2024 22:43

We only go locally and we know all the people we go to visit.

BarbaraHoward · 29/10/2024 22:45

No one's giving their drugs away for free!

Most of the sweets will be wrapped. It's a real packet of haribo, no one has the energy to fake that.

Drug dealers charge for their drugs. What on earth would they get out of giving them for free to a child? Also, if you stick to going to houses with a pumpkin in the window/ Halloween decorations, it’s very unlikely to be the local dealer targeting kids. You are seriously paranoid OP.

ThoraZ · 29/10/2024 22:46

No I don’t worry about that at all. For one thing, if someone was doing this it would be fairly easy to trace back to what is presumably their home address.

3luckystars · 29/10/2024 22:46

Why would someone give your kids drugs?

The whole point of a drug dealer is to get people to come back for more, not kill the customers. Why would someone give away their drugs anonymously, for free also.

3luckystars · 29/10/2024 22:47

Like some sick secret Santa.

Shopgirl2 · 29/10/2024 22:47

Yes I'd be worried. I know some who injected chilli into sweets to give out.

MildGreenDairyLiquid · 29/10/2024 22:49

If they’re in a sealed packet and it says Haribo on the front, I’d say it’s fine. Anyway, most kids only go to the houses of people they know these days don’t they?

BalletCat · 29/10/2024 22:49

It's TRICK or treat isn't it? Chilli is hardly drugs.

JC03745 · 29/10/2024 22:50

I always find it bizarre that people think its normal for children to go begging at strangers homes and accept sweets on 1 day of the year, yet no other!
I doubt they'd bother sharing their drug supply, but stick to friends/neighbours you know rather than randoms.

Dunnoburt · 29/10/2024 22:51

First dibs!

A bit like kids speaking to strange old men at Christmas and telling them they’ll be good in return for presents (at least they don’t sit on his knee any more) 😆😆😆

That's not what the trick refers to. The trick is the children doing a turn for their treat.

Sheamie · 29/10/2024 22:52

Have you seen how expensive drugs are?

I forked out £30 tonight on trick or treat sweets, I’m not paying any more.

Seriously, if you’re that paranoid, keep your children at home and don’t let them trick or treat. It’s not mandatory

It's almost like it's... Not begging, isn't it.
