To worry about sweets from trick or treating…

Just had a horrible thought… when we go trick or treating, what if we are given dodgy sweets? I mean I know it isn’t likely but unless you know everyone you go to, how can you guarantee they aren’t giving your kid drugs?! Does this worry anyone else?!

This is why I thoroughly test all the sweets.

Same in our house. DH is a self-appointed Beefeater.

GiveMeAbitOfSugar · 30/10/2024 00:17

It happened to me as a kid

Not sure if it was drugs
But the seal was stuck back together and there was a substance over the crisps

If you like haloween then you like urchins knocking at your door with parents waiting at the end of your long drive

A very ignorant assumption. Halloween has so much more to offer than urchins at the end of our drive.

Christ. There’s a COL crisis. No one is going to be giving away free drugs to kids.

This is next level paranoia OP, are you ok?

This happens and did to someone I know just check your kids loot when you get home anything unsealed or dodgy chuck it.

Unlikely anyone would put drugs in kids sweets.
It would certainly bring police to the door if a child was hospitalised and tested positive for drugs.

It happened to me

It is still VERY unlikely but it can happen

What happened to you?

MoneyTalksBSWalks · 30/10/2024 00:26

I give out a choice of sweets or crisps, only ever fully wrapped stuff. One house round the corner from me used to give out hot dogs and cake.

We decorate our house for Halloween because we love Halloween. They are not an invitation for trick or treaters.

We don't want strangers knocking on our door all night it feels invasive.

So yes, they are uninvited and asking for things for free, like the homeless man in your example.

Edited

That may be your habit but I think the general understanding is that decorating is representing you are willing to do the whole Halloween shebang - not exactly an invitation to treat, but to trick or treat.

NiftyKoala · 30/10/2024 00:27

Drugs are expensive. I think it would be very rare someone would give their drugs away.

As much as anything else with home made stuff you don’t know if their kitchen was clean or if it contains allergens.

Fuck me, it’s a wonder my kids are still alive. I let them knock on any door that looked Halloweeny and I never checked and washed the sweets.

Explains why little Tabitha was absolutely off her tits last year I suppose.

No it didn't, it's an urban legend. Someone's always heard it's happened to someone they know.

At most, someone maybe found an unsealed bag in their kid's Halloween sweets and imagined all sorts. If I saw one like that I'd just assume it got damaged or was a manufacturing fault or perhaps the kids in the house opened a bag to sneak some sweets out. If it looked fine otherwise I'd eat it myself.

Worst comes to worst, free drugs I suppose!

I was replying to someone who said it hadnt happen to anyone

Seal of bag of crisps sealed back up, and a blue substance over the crisps, obvs not sure it was drugs but it is possible for this to happen

No! It happened to me (Not sure it was drugs but something was put in the packet and the packet resealed

Why are people so disbelieving on something that can happen

No it's not. Even people who want to participate in Halloween often want to do it during certain time frame (for example due to children's bed time etc). That's why general rule is to only go to houses where there is a lit pumpkin outside.
