no intelligent life in the universe. Just vast space. It makes me sad: the slow evolution of man over billions of years; the art; the culture; to go from living in caves to flying to the moon in a blink of an eye.

You won’t know or care.

I'm sure someone will come and photocopy everything, then zoom off to their planet laughing about how primitive we were.

What on earth makes you come to the conclusion that when our one star of trillions upon trillions goes, that all entire intelligent life is wiped out? You can’t possibly believe we’re the only planet with intelligent life forms?

Babush · 23/10/2024 20:37

As above. Can’t worry about something that won’t affect me at all. There’s a lot of suffering in the world as well. I’m not sorry about that coming to an end.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 23/10/2024 20:38

It’s billions of years away. Who’s to say there will be life left if it happens? Humanity may have obliterated itself long before then. Or they may have found somewhere else in the universe to settle. I think worrying about it is…worrying

Hateam · 23/10/2024 20:39

It's 4 billion years away

Mankind will have long begone before the sun dies.

Ivehearditbothways · 23/10/2024 20:40

We won’t still be around when it happens. Or anywhere close to it happening.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 23/10/2024 20:41

How do you know there won't be intelligent life? There is almost certainly other intelligent life in the universe and anyway the sun going bang is so far in the future our descendants may be looking at a totally different star far away by then. Or are you talking about the reversal of the big bang and the whole universe eventually collapsing? But then there will be no vast empty space...

Scottishgirl85 · 23/10/2024 20:47

It's an incredible and mind-blowing thought, but I think humans will have obliterated themselves long before the sun explodes.

Cheesybashful · 23/10/2024 20:47

OP, you have too much time on your hands.

Plus, I'm in agreement with others, and many scientists agree that there is likely intelligent life out there beside us.

Ablondiebutagoody · 23/10/2024 20:48

I heard it was half a billion years away. Anyway, that's why you need to back Elon's plans.

Reserved101 · 23/10/2024 20:49

I sort of get you, OP. As others have said, by the time the sun dies it's likely humans will be long gone and, in any event, it's likely that humans are not the only intelligent life in the universe.

What I do find sad, though, is that given that the universe is continuing to expand, there will come a time when, no matter what planet you're on, there will be no stars visible in the night sky and eventually the last of them will die and there'll be nothingness. Obviously it won't impact any of us, but I do find it a sad notion to reflect upon.

Ohthatsabitshit · 23/10/2024 20:51

Nobody will be raped or tortured, children will not be killed, there will be no homeless, unloved or lost…

PerkyShark · 23/10/2024 20:51

If you find our sun going red giant depressing, don't google the heat death of the universe.

Edingril · 23/10/2024 20:52

I presume you mean intelligent in the loose sense

StrawberryWater · 23/10/2024 21:00

Well I mean the sun won't explode really.

in about 5 billion years time (so long after your dead) the sun will turn into a red giant and expand beyond Mars. Then it'll turn into a dwarf star and last a few more billion years.

What will likely happen when the sun expands is that the habitable zone of the solar system will change so we'll just hop on over to Titan (Saturn moon) or Europa (Jupiter Moon) both of which have potential for life and could possibly be habitable in the future.

In 5 billion years time we might even have moved beyond our solar system. I'm sure we'll find faster ways to travel.

Weird comment.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 23/10/2024 21:05

The thing is we are very important to ourselves, but on a galactic level, it will be like the destruction that occurs every time we bleach a toilet.

Lovelysummerdays · 23/10/2024 21:06

I’d be rather depressed to think we are the only intelligent life in the universe. I mean as a species we are making a bad job of it? I’m hoping there’s a civilisation out there where everyone has learned to get along and work together for the greater good. Can you imagine what we could achieve as a species if we weren’t caught up in making money/ wars?

thebigL · 23/10/2024 21:07

Humanity will destroy itself long before then, so you needn't worry.

Billybagpuss · 23/10/2024 21:08

In the words of Monty python

snd pray that there’s intelligent life somewhere up in space because there’s bugger all down here on earth…..

Allmarbleslost · 23/10/2024 21:09

The older I get the more I think that would actually be for the best.

freddyfluffball · 23/10/2024 21:10

I have some worries but this certainly isn't one of them to be honest.
