To think all these weight loss jabs are a bad move?

I’ve seen so many people recently saying they’re on Mounjaro - someone wrote on Facebook that they were struggling to eat anything at all, hadn't eaten for over 48 hours. Just zero desire to eat anything. Surely that can’t be healthy?

I also know of someone who has lied to an only e pharmacy to get the jab, because her BMI would be considered too low to be prescribed it. She’s wanting to get down to a size 6.

I use the same Pharmacy where I also receive my NHS prescriptions. They contacted my GP via letter to let them know I've been prescribed Mounjaro so that it would be on my record. I also spoke to my GP and the surgery pharmacist about it to ensure it didn't interfere with any of my medications and to get advice. I have an 'open door' to contact my GP should any issues arise from it.

If you don't do the necessary checks, go with pharmacies that do the necessary checks, are willing to lie and trick to get it, it's on you, not the medication. Adults should be responsible and take accountability for their actions.

Yes, this is true. Adults need to take responsibility. I personally did something wrong in obtaining mounjaro when I wasn't overweight and I accept and take full responsibility for any negative outcomes that could have come of it, had I not given my head a wobble and stopped using it after one dose.

However, my 14 year old self would not have stopped at one dose. I know that. My 14 year old self would not have panicked at the side effects. My 14 year old self would absolutely have got hold of this injection and gone with it.

There will likely be many teenage girls and young women who are enticed by these jabs and who are not mature enough to be held responsible.

There will.also be many adults who have eating disorders who may not have capacity to make sensible decisions.

I am not against people using these jabs carefully under the supervision of their GP. However, I do believe we need to consider who may get hold of them (that shouldn't), who may be triggered by celebs using them and the media discussing them. We just need to be careful

Pointing out obvious facts is not "chatting shit".

"It's perfectly safe!"
"It's been around for decades!"
'There are long-term studies on these injections for weightloss!"

That is just wishful thinking. Nobody knows the longterm repercussions of these injections, used for weightloss, and the facts won't be in for many years probably. (There is already, however, a massive class action lawsuit in the US.)

People are being asked to do this by my provider now - also when there medication is reviewed. I think because people were trying to cheat with clothed photos! Just stomach from the front and side though - no rude bits haha!

Oh I see! :)

SilenceInside · 23/10/2024 22:28

I think @poisongreen has rather fixed ideas about this and isn't interested in any kind of information or reasoning that contradicts that fixed view.

poisongreen · 23/10/2024 22:30

I would say on the contrary, this thread is riddled with people who shriek if they hear a fact. A very basic fact at that. Thank you, but as I don't wish to inject myself with a manufactured drug for weightloss, I have read quite enough already about the history of these substances.

My initial point was that the drug, at a lower dosage, for use with type 2 diabetes, has been studied longterm. The (adverse) side-effects are thus well-known and well-documented, and usually well-monitored. This is not the case for the usage for weighloss. Eighteen months or so is not longterm. And many are taking these drugs with no surpervision whatsover. The end.

They won’t be available for use under the supervision of your gp for quite some time, for most people. Let’s hope those securing it by nefarious means don’t spoil it for the rest of us in the mean time.

@poisongreen the excellent news for you is that absolutely nobody is suggesting or forcing you to take a medication you don't want and don't need.

Isn't that great! Not sure how you came up with "don't need" - but I certainly don't want to risk my future health. YMMV.

One does have to wonder why posters like you and others are so threatened by basic facts, though.

SilenceInside · 23/10/2024 22:39

@poisongreen because they're not basic facts! You are factually incorrect, and are being corrected. That's all.

poisongreen · 23/10/2024 22:42

Here's another fact:

Ozempic lawsuits claim the drug can cause severe gastroparesis, ileus and intestinal blockage. Lawyers are also pursuing cases of Ozempic vision loss. Plaintiffs claim they weren't properly warned of these risks.

As of October 2024, there are 1,090 personal injury lawsuits for gastroparesis, ileus and intestinal blockage or obstruction in MDL 3094 in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

In July 2024, lawyers began investigating Ozempic vision loss lawsuits. People who took any semaglutide drug, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, and suffered vision loss may qualify to file a lawsuit for potential compensation.

SilenceInside · 23/10/2024 22:45

@poisongreen that's not another fact. You've already said about the US class actions. Which remain unproven and unresolved. Not yet tested in court or settled out of it. Just because people claim they were not warned of possible side effects doesn't make it true! All the side effects you quote are warned about in the patient information for these drugs.

CrystalSea · 23/10/2024 22:47

Who did you get Mounjaro through @CoffeeAndATwix ?

Faking being fat by wearing loads of clothes and putting weights on your scale photo (assume you did that too) should raise a load of red flags.

Why are you doing this? I’ve weighed up the pros and cons, knowing there’s the possibility of side effects and have decided that it’s still better than being obese. I’m sure many are the same. You are not being forced or cajoled into taking any of these drugs so what is the purpose of your posts?

You have a tenuous grip on reality. It is a fact that there is a massive class action lawsuit already underway in the US.

I got it through and online reputable pharmacy. I won't say which one specifically. I didn't need to take a photo of the scales as that wasn't asked for. Yes, I probably would have weighted the scales though had I been asked to prove my weight by showing a scales photo.

SilenceInside · 23/10/2024 22:52

@poisongreen how strange, when I am agreeing with you the the US class actions exist! I'm disagreeing about their relevance and importance in the UK.

I made a bland three-word comment (factual) and have been hounded ever since by posters insisting XYZ (all quite easily verified) is not so.

Clearly people are very protective of their injections and don't want any untoward facts getting in the way.

The facts remain.

You've got a funny way of "agreeing".

Please for the love of all that is holy stop @-ing me.

That's it, I'm done on this thread.

You always say something like this on every WL thread but still pop around the next one with the same ignorant take, then tell us you're flouncing. I can't tell why.

It’s fascinating isn’t it? It’s like an obsession.

Maybe stop quoting me and replying then, poisongreen!

Nobody cares mate! Don’t take them if you don’t want to! I repeat, most users have weighed up if the potential risks and feel that remaining obese is the poorer option.
