Eerily so for me and everyone i know (who’s had kids)

is there anyone out there who’s it’s not been accurate for

Yabu- it’s not always write, it’s not science. Yanbu- it’s been bang on for everyone I know, it’s magic

Chinese gender predictor chart and calendar tool

Find out how an ancient Chinese gender chart predicts which sex your baby will be.

unnecessarily rude.

i don’t actually think it’s magic, rather I’m just interested in how many it was right/ not right for, as everyone in my immediate circle it was right for.

You've described it as being magic. As being eerily correct and that its "not always write" (ie "not always right") and that somehow the fact your acupuncturist is Chinese is relevant. And now that so many have told you its not even vaguely magic you've decided to agree you know its not magic (well doh, of course it isnt)

Its literally just probability. And logic. Because approximately 50% of all babies born will be boys and 50% girls. In any month, in any year, regardless of how old the mother is. If that isnt obvious to you then you did clearly miss all the lessons on probability at school. Maybe take some maths classes so you'll be better able to help your kids when they get stuck in maths at school.

Apologies for a typo, long day.

that was just the Aibu options.. and it’s clearly tongue in cheek. Yeah it has been eerily correct with the people I know but as demonstrated by the thread it’s not the case for everyone.

and there, rudeness again. What a shame.

Ooh i thought I'll check! Ha ha! Couldn't grt past q.1 cos I was younger than 18 !

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 22/10/2024 06:43

I get that you dont like being called out for posting nonsense. But you have.

"clearly tongue in cheek" but you still think its eerily accurate.

Of course its not the case for everyone - it will only ever be right about 50% of the time. Because that is how probability works when given a choice between two and both are equally likely.

Serencwtch · 22/10/2024 06:44

Wrong for me!!

It's a cognitive bias - if it's correct then you think OMG!! This is amazing & shout about it but when it's wrong you laugh & ignore it.

It's a guess so will be correct 50% of the time

ForSale2024 · 22/10/2024 06:50

Wrong for all three of my children

pavementgerms · 22/10/2024 06:50

YABU.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 22/10/2024 06:52

@Serencwtch exactly.

Bjorkdidit · 22/10/2024 06:53

It's clearly nonsense and as near as damn it the same as tossing a coin, anyone who says it worked for them is only looking at a tiny snapshot, but you need to look at thousands of births for any statistical accuracy.

But if you want a full scientific analysis of boys vs girls this was covered in a podcast discussion between two professors of maths/statistics that's not as dull as it may sound, have a listen to:

BBC Radio 4 - Uncharted with Hannah Fry - Why are more boys born in certain years?

Mathematician Hannah Fry gets to the root of this intriguing question.

It was right for 1 out of my 3 kids. Saw this when I was pregnant with my third many years ago, bit of fun to see who it predicted right for in my due in group. That baby was supposed to be a girl according to the chart, found out a couple weeks later that DC3 was a boy.

I'm not sure AIBU is the place for you if you can't take someone correcting your maths knowledge. I really don't think that poster has been rude to you.

Maybe some other section of MN would have been a better place to put this.

BodyKeepingScore · 22/10/2024 07:03

It was wrong for 2 of my four

Jifmicroliquid · 22/10/2024 07:05

Apparently I should have been a boy.

DeathNote11 · 22/10/2024 07:06

According to that I should have 2 girls & 1 boy. I've got 3 boys.

called Out for what, honestly this is the epitome of mountains out of molehills. It’s sufficient to say, not accurate for me, it’s a load of cobblers. Not everything needs to be this huge MN debate. It’s clearly a lighthearted thread, if you can’t tell something is tongue in cheek then I don’t know what to tell you.

WiserOlderElf · 22/10/2024 07:20

Wrong for 2 out of 3 of mine.

Welshcake15 · 22/10/2024 07:21

It's telling me I'm having a girl. I'm 36 weeks pregnant with a boy that's been confirmed to be a boy by about 5 or 6 different sonographers at this point (I get growth scans).

LadyR77 · 22/10/2024 07:24

Well, it's just told me I'd have a girl....but I had a boy. So not accurate at all here (hardly surprising as it's a load of nonsense!)

Maybe report your own post and ask for it to be moved out of AIBU? AIBU isn't the usual place for light hearted tongue in cheek.

Feel free to report. I’m in a bit of a squeeze this morning. I can report later but I’ve seen quite a few light hearted threads on Aibu if I recall

It is commonly referred to as the Chinese gender prediction calculator, it may be inappropriately called that, but a simple google will tell you that. The link I shared by the baby centre was just for ease. I’m not saying it’s evidence based rather it’s a light hearted thread asking if it has been accurate for you with your children/ grandchildren.

Well as it predicts gender rather than sex noone will know for several years what gender the child is

You invited people tp pass opinions on its not being science and were called out on its not being science. Which it isn't You asked others to side with its being magic. Which it also isn't, because there is no magic.

Don't post on AIBU and then get the arse because people do exactly what you've asked them to do.

And it's sex, not gender.

Amanitacae · 22/10/2024 07:53

Right for two of mine (who share the same birthday two years apart and are the same sex) wrong for the third.

Isn’t the baby’s sex based on the sperm component though? If so would it make more sense for the dads to fill this in and see?

It's up to you to get your own thread moved if you don't like it being treated as AIBU in AIBU. I'd never start a thread in AIBU, personally.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 22/10/2024 08:25

@dreamingofthree called out for not knowing basic maths. This topic is taught at primary school level.
A light hearted thread is a chat of no real consequence. Topics like do you prefer jam or lemon curd on toast.

This isnt that. Its just silly nonsense by someone who either clearly doesnt understand basic maths. Or who is trolling mn. Whichever.
