To hope that Donald Trump doesn’t win the election

1000 replies

RosaMoline · 21/10/2024 16:05

….it’s getting closer.
I was hoping that Kamala would be a shoo-in for the presidency, but looking at the betting odds, I’m feeling quite pessimistic.
It’s incomprehensible to me that a convicted felon, racist, rapist, liar and misogynist who spurred on an insurrection - after everything that’s happened - is running for office again and may very well win.
It’s comforting to read though that fellow Brits DON’T support him.
Apart from Reform. Obviously.

She 'has what it takes' to rise from an ordinary background to become VP - but she doesn't 'have what it takes to be President'? She clearly has brains, grit, drive, political nous. What else does she need? Look back over the last 10 presidents. What did they have that she doesn't have, other than a penis?

Edited

She needs votes. Whether she gets enough or not remains to be seen. I'd prefer Trump. If this makes me stupid then so be it. Along with half of the USA. I don't think either of them are ideal.

I would love to know concrete reasons as to why you prefer Trump.

Whenever I ask this, I never get reasons

I don't think you're stupid, as you say there are people that prefer him, I just don't know why

Is this the woman who was denied a D&C for over 20 hours in a Georgia hospital who died on the operating table, and Georgia's maternal mortality review committee recently deemed her death "preventable?

Why are pro-lifers like you only bothered about foetuses/babies when they're in the womb but don't give a fuck about them once they've been born? I'm presuming that you think that children dying in school shootings are a price worth paying as long as you can keep all your guns.

Well that shows what you know doesn't it. I'm very strongly AGAINST guns.

It’s a healthcare issue.

Roe vs Wade was to abortion what Brown vs Board of Education was to civil rights. The current court would overturn that too.

No the current court would not overturn Brown V. Board. First and foremost the opinion was that it was unconstitutional under the 14th amendment equal protection under the law.

And more importantly it has since been covered under federal law…

These laws include Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), the Equal Pay Act (EPA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA)

Roe V. Wade was always shaken law and as I mentioned earlier has never been written into federal law. Seems to me that would have been very easy to pass some laws in the 4 times the Democrats have held both houses + the presidency since 1975.

Why didn’t they act? That’s the real question that should be asked.

Toseland · 26/10/2024 20:43

Kamala Harris is supporting and encouraging the transing of gay kids. I believe that is evil and if I were in the US I would vote Trump on this single issue.

My family member wants him to win and she is an immigrant in the usa waiting on her spouse visa (she overstayed her esta, but is married to an American so it is a route though one with long waiting times and theoretically anything can happen).

She really likes vance and thinks kamala is a disaster. Her dh earns barely anything as a realtor and they have a young child (so need to pay nursery fees). She works remotely but can't drive or find a us job because of the visa situation.

If she and her family can support trump (she can't vote but her dh can and the whole family is voting trump despite presumably wanting her to stay in the usa), I don't see why anyone else wouldn't vote trump if they got it in their heads.

I think trump will win. It's not about facts anymore, ifs about the vibes

Oh dear @floral2027
. Does your family member realise that when Trump talks about the mass deportation of 15 million immigrants he means her?

Because answers to this question (regardless of who you prefer) only leads to name calling, insults, screes of why you’re wrong, and all manner of nonsense.

It’s never worth answering the question because nobody ever just replies “Thanks for answering”.

I apologise for my assumptions about your views on gun control. I assumed that you shared your namesake's views that controlling guns is a slippery slope to tyranny and subjugation.

I would say 'thanks for answering' if I heard something that meant something.

Listen to BBC world service. There’s coverage of why people prefer him from voters

Single issue misinformed voters like you are dangerous.

People say why others may not agree but if you really want to know why some will vote for him it’s there

I read other sources, including right wing media.

My view hasn't changed. I understand more but that doesn't mean I have to change what I think.

See even this reply puts a qualifier on your response… respectfully, who the hell are you to judge if someone’s response ’means something’?

Interesting… are they still dangerous if their single issue is abortion rights?

I‘m not saying you need to change but you asked why people will vote for him the insight is there

I could say the top reasons people gave but it’s quite easy to find

I don’t think mn is the best place as it just descends into insults and slanging

But it is said why

Who the hell am I ?

A random on the internet. Just like you. With an opinion. Just like you.

whathaveiforgotten · 26/10/2024 21:05

@Viviennemary

Looks like this election is just about that. After hearing the dreadful Kamala Harris laughing like a demented hyena I'd vote Trump is slightly less crazy.

You're more put off by her laugh than you are by Trump having decades of accusations of sexual assault (recently found liable for one by a judge) and 34 felony convictions?

Goodness.

Nope, I can't think of anyone who I agree with on their view about absolutely everything. On this CO and I differ. I think the fact there have been so many shootings and they still want to keep their precious guns is outrageous.

I'm not soliciting opinions under false pretences, I am expressing an opinion on a discussion forum.
But I thank you for the link, I will read carefully. At first glance, it appears to be a measured and interesting opinion piece.
