To hope that Donald Trump doesn’t win the election

1000 replies

RosaMoline · 21/10/2024 16:05

….it’s getting closer.
I was hoping that Kamala would be a shoo-in for the presidency, but looking at the betting odds, I’m feeling quite pessimistic.
It’s incomprehensible to me that a convicted felon, racist, rapist, liar and misogynist who spurred on an insurrection - after everything that’s happened - is running for office again and may very well win.
It’s comforting to read though that fellow Brits DON’T support him.
Apart from Reform. Obviously.

Project 2025 is not a "conspiracy theory".

thepariscrimefiles · 22/10/2024 12:19

Menopausalsourpuss · 22/10/2024 11:51

Eh @thepariscrimefiles ? I didn't say I supported trump, I just said I like Vance. As I'm not a US citizen there's no point supporting anyone as spoiler alert I don't have a vote. And admitted I know little about us politics like most on here. I think agenda 2025 is probably mentioned on BBC/Guardian alot which I never watch /read (don't have a TV licence) but sounds like a conspiracy theory.

If you know so little about politics, what do you like about JD Vance? I don't think even die-hard Trump supporters are that keen on him.

Project 2025 isn't a conspiracy theory, it's a document produced by the extremely right-wing Heritage Foundation, basically a wish list for a Trump presidency. JD Vance wrote a gushing forward to the author of Project 2025's book.

BustingBaoBun · 22/10/2024 12:52

Untrue. It is mentioned literally everywhere. As I said before, please google and read up about it before labelling it as a 'conspiracy theory'

I do agree with your statement that you don't know much about all of this.

I hope Trump wins. Kamala Harris will be useless. IMHO. Trump has already been President and coped quite well. Better than Biden anyway. Which wouldn't bd difficult I admit.

Thoughts on the multiple sexual assault / rape claims against him over multiple decades?

Including one where a judge found him liable for sexual abuse and awarded his victim £5m?

Do you think that is the kind of person you want to be running a country? An incredibly powerful country? Making decisions about women and justice?

Really?

BustingBaoBun · 22/10/2024 13:31

Trump fans never ever have any answer to his rape and 34 felonies. They just get glossed over or ignored.

Starbright885 · 22/10/2024 13:41

Evangelical Christian community will vote him , he even signed a bible for them 😂 honestly if that’s the best the US have for presidency there is no hope. How is no one questioning the circus that it has become??

BustingBaoBun · 22/10/2024 13:46

And of course he is selling Trump signed Bibles to his adoring fans. Oh... and they are made in China.

And let's not forget the Trump watches with his picture on the back. And sneakers. All with his fist raised after the ear/bullet incident and 'fight fight fight' plastered all over them. Oh... and Trump Victory perfume.

Not cashing in is Trump... no sirree.... 🫨

whathaveiforgotten · 22/10/2024 14:00

Can you share a couple of reasons you like Vance?

Some of his supporters genuinely sound insane. One reporter interviewed a Trump supporter at one of his rallies.

He asked a question about whether they thought Trump had lost the last election.

Trump fan: No, he won the last election.
Interviewer: Well he didn't as Joe Biden is President now.
Trump fan: No, Trump is the President
Interviewer: You think Trump is still President?
Trump fan: Yes he is
Interviewer: So all the things in this country that you don't like are being done by Trump
Trump fan: No, Joe Biden is doing them
Interviewer: How is Joe Biden doing them if he isn't President?
Trump fan: Silence

As opposed to a woman who got her initial position ( by her own admission) by sexual favours to her boss. Who has never been elected to any office ( withdrew from her primary when it was obvious that she was going to get the smallest share of the vote). Who didn’t visit the border when she was supposed to be in charge of it?

we won’t mention the earpiece, though.

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen
This is simply untrue. She was elected and re-elected attorney general, she was elected to Senate.
In fact your favourite Trump thought she was so good at her job as Attorney General that he donated to her campaign TWICE.

I wish they would come on and say why a sex offender is the best option.

Lots of people are fairly pro-sex offenders as long as they themselves aren’t being assaulted, look at how many people support their convicted family members.

SallyWD · 22/10/2024 14:53

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he wins. Because of a particular illness I had, I joined a support group and now have literally hundreds of American friends on Facebook. They're from all over America and all support Trump! Even the ones that don't actively support him will never say a word against him. They'll constantly mock and criticise Biden, Harris, and Obama, but not a word against Trump. It blows my mind.

MagentaRocks · 22/10/2024 15:02

I will quite happily go to town on Trumps character, even if he had 1 good policy I still think you should be of good character to be president.

Our politicians bad points aside, when you are talking rape, racism etc it in no way compares. Would you vote for Russell Brand or Gary Glitter for prime minister if they had good policies?

Menopausalsourpuss · 22/10/2024 15:37

whathaveiforgotten · 22/10/2024 14:00

@Menopausalsourpuss

Can you share a couple of reasons you like Vance?

Has come from working class origins so understands wc unlike most other establishment politicians. This is all chronicled in his book hillbilly elegy. Despite drug addict mum and poor background went to Yale and had successful career.
Good communicator - it is generally agreed he won the debate against Walz (who was awful).
Committed Christian - people on here won't appreciate that is a big plus in America.

Menopausalsourpuss · 22/10/2024 15:38

I wouldn't vote for Harris or Trump - I would probably abstain if lived in US.

BustingBaoBun · 22/10/2024 15:48

Good communicator... yes, I'll give you that. He's slick alright, but comparing him to Trump, of course anyone is... even Zippy and Bungle are good communicators compared to Trump.

What about his policies, beliefs and views?

Do you agree with his undermining of childless women? What about his attacks on women? And his view that rape and incest are 'inconvenient' and he would like abortion to be illegal nationally.

Very handmaids tale.

Millions voted for Farage and many on MN have far right views. That really shouldn't surprise you.

being against uncontrolled massive immigration does not make people far right, neither does a fear of the downgrading of the status of women.

We don't have mass uncontrolled immigration. Even with free movement it wasn't completely uncontrolled. Wanting an ethnostate is far right.

What are you talking about re downgrading the status of women? Trump doesn't respect women, I hate to break it to you.

the downgrading of women was in response to your comment about Farage sympathisers being far right.
Ref Trump not respecting women, have you ever read Monica Lewinsky's book about Bill Clinton? This last comment is not in any way defending Trump, but saying that there are others up to the same shenanigans but mostly not reported in case it upsets the progressives and might make them think for a change.,

You're one of those! You actually think that Farage and his motley crew give a monkeys about women. Farage is anti woke not pro women. Trump is also anti woke and not pro women.

Single issue voters are a strange bunch. For example, they claim to be feminists but don't seem to care how a party effects women.

Feminists have written about voting for Trump because he's anti Trans but he's a convicted sex offender, has no respect for women and wants to take away women's autonomy.

Single issue voters voted for Brexit and then complained about losing their freedom to travel. Single issue feminists vote Tory without caring how Tories have completely screwed women over.

The people in Clacton who voted for Farage haven't seen him for dust. They think he's patrolling Dover for forrins but he's been busy supporting Tump in the States. That bastion of women's rights.

Where is the best place on the internet to find out what normal, everyday Americans think about the election? On twitter and Reddit it's just full of two extremes of people-crazie bluehairs and gun toting nutters.

BBC world service is good. There’s a piece on right now interviewing Hispanic people and why they’ll vote Trump or Harris

They given reasons for Trump

This has been analysed and one reason is because of strong patriarchal norms. They won't vote for a woman. I believe Obama brought this up as well.

He11oKitty · 22/10/2024 17:14

Honestly, I think it’s pretty sad that it seems that many America would rather vote for a convicted sex offender than a woman. I used to travel to the US for work but if he gets in, I think I’ll keep my money and self respect.

If you haven’t heard about project 25 yet, seriously please take a look at the bbc reporting on it, for your own sake if not for anyone else. It’s pretty significant.

Linzi2377 · 22/10/2024 18:37

I think trump has it in the bag

Yelloworangetomato · 22/10/2024 18:43

He won't win. There is no way it would be allowed to happen.
