To think JellyCats cost a ridiculous amount..

Some examples, see pictures.

These are listed on vinted.

One seller wants £32 for a small plush croissant. 67 people have 'favourited' it.

Another wants £30 for an equally small slice of pizza, or whatever it was.

They sell well.

DD wants the birthday cake one, that's also £30.

AIBU to think they are hugely overpriced? What's so special about them that makes them cost triple what you'd pay for other plush toys?!

OMG are you me?? My DD has a similar ambition. @Needmorelego
We have about 12 mini bunnies
10 small ones and maybe 5 of the larger.
She loves the tiny ones really but they don’t make very many of them anymore.

Boxofstars · 20/10/2024 23:56

They are so cute but i think they are pricey.

Facebook market place sometimes you can get one for less than half of what they go for on ebay.

I want a black cat one.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 21/10/2024 00:01

We love seeing Jellycats in shops, especially if they're in garden centres. We play, "guess the extortionate price tag" as a family. Winning one so far is this little (literally) beaut for £25.

They have become super popular all of a sudden! By chance I bought the carrot one for my daughter early in the summer, she picked it out in a gift shop as a souvenir at the end of our holiday, super random but whatever. She became really attached to it and has taken it everywhere since, even cuddles it in bed at night! We call it her emotional support carrot 🤣

YourLastNerve · 21/10/2024 00:08

I have two Aliexpress ones, they're identical in every way to the real thing, just a different label. China or Vietnam, neither is putting money in British designers pockets

Jellycat is a British brand. When you buy that the profit from the design largely stays in the uk. When you buy a chinese knock off, the profit to the manufacturer is lower, yes, but it all stays in china and it damages the british brand who invest in designing, creating and marketing something.

How would you feel if you invented something great and someone immediately copied your work?

I’m a 30 year old woman who has about 65+ of them 😂 I’m utterly obsessed, but I admit the price is insane! I’ve mostly had them as gifts. They brighten up the house and they’re mostly home decor. I have the smoothie bottles in the kitchen and the popcorn on the TV stand etc. They’re such a serotonin boost!

EngineEngineNumber9 · 21/10/2024 00:46

Based on this thread I have just ordered a Jellycat ghost from the local independent gift shop. Supporting small businesses by wasting my cash on childish but incredibly cute tat 👻

Meet Vera and Sid. Never dying from over or under watering and I love how their feet are dangling.

People buy them for children. We were gifted for a baby shower gift.

He chose the jellycat as his favourite. Which took around a year. By which point I then had track down a couple more in case something happens.

You do not want to know what I paid 🤣

I think originally it was an item less than £20.

£ per minute use they are probably still the best purchase ever made. Your looking at micro pennies

£1,000 for this one!
I'm sitting here slack jawed in amazement. I'd never heard of these things until today when DD announced wanting one for Christmas.

You what?! My daughter has one of those, I'm going to sell it!

... not really!

IDontHateRainbows · 21/10/2024 05:30

They are the new beanies.
My daughter got one of the bunnies gor her birthday, at £25. She adores it.
Like anything if you just buy one you treasure it but if you buy loads they lose their. (emotional) value.

dutysuite · 21/10/2024 05:32

There’s a huge community of collectors on TikTok, and obviously this drives up the cost of second hand jellycats.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 21/10/2024 06:25

I have just joined a jellycat fb group. Some
People go mad for them. The peach seems to be the must have one of the moment which seems to result in a lot of fakes being sold on Vinted / dodgy websites.

We have a few of the food ones - going to the patisserie in Paris next month so my daughter wants one from there.

I also have a large octopus, it's just so soft and the legs are lovely!

WaneyEdge · 21/10/2024 06:39

No idea why anyone would pay more for second hand than new!

I’ll just leave this here..

Wow! Is that the 'really big' one?. I have a small Christmas tree...

Chimbos · 21/10/2024 06:46

I don’t think they are overpriced. They are very well made and designed and branded.. you have to pay a price for that! Plenty of cheap cuddly toy alternatives. The expensive ones on sale 2nd hand are out of production and rare. They are collectors items. The same happens with Lego sets that are popular and then go out of stock.

TemuSpecialBuy · 21/10/2024 06:51

They are rhe new beanie babies/ tulips / whatever
Sell your rare ones now amd cash in before it all goes tits up 😅

youcandomagic · 21/10/2024 06:53

What’s not to love 😃one of the cheaper ones, £20

Edited

For some reason It bothers me more that someone is asking £1000 for something they could barely be arsed to take a proper photo of.

We bought two of these at Alnwick Castle as we’re away for Halloween so no trick or treating.

i moan about the amount of teddies the DC have, but those bunnies have got us through numerous hospital stays.

Marmite27 · 21/10/2024 07:05

Word of warning though. The original blossom bunnies have fabric patches on their feet. Due to the beads in them, the material has worn away. We had to get Granny to knit them a pair of socks!

Eumie · 21/10/2024 07:10

I love jellycats, but I’ve never bought them myself, all mine have been gifted!

I had no idea how expensive they were until I went to buy a spare lovey octopus for my son. Unfortunately turns out is been gifted a ‘rare’ colour version, so I ended up paying twice what it was new! It was worth it thought to have a back up.

I will say that they wash beautifully, I’ve machine washed the lovely’s several times and they still look and feel wonderful!

elderflowerspritzer · 21/10/2024 07:16

Bloodylovecheese · 20/10/2024 22:30

If you don't mind not having the brand name there are cheaper versions on Chinese websites... but they're all made in China probably

Jellycats are made in China. Most things are!

anotherside · 21/10/2024 07:16

Jellycat is mostly manufactured in China, but some in Vietnam, Cambodia etc. I certainly wouldn’t pay £100 for a soft toy that cost the factory about £2 to produce (including staff wages) but to each their own!
