To think JellyCats cost a ridiculous amount..

Some examples, see pictures.

These are listed on vinted.

One seller wants £32 for a small plush croissant. 67 people have 'favourited' it.

Another wants £30 for an equally small slice of pizza, or whatever it was.

They sell well.

DD wants the birthday cake one, that's also £30.

AIBU to think they are hugely overpriced? What's so special about them that makes them cost triple what you'd pay for other plush toys?!

I have the croissant one sitting on my shelf, along with a pain au raisin. Received as a gift but I'm sure it wouldn't have cost £32 new!

It really tickles me to hear that they're used as house decorations 😁

People can ask for any price but it doesn't mean anyone will buy them.

They have always been very expensive though. I have a super wearing a jumper I bought in about 2003 ad I remember at the time wondering if I should pay it!

NoisyDenimShaker · 20/10/2024 22:40

They're very well-made and cuter than most, but there are still cute options that are cheaper. I agree they're expensive.

Marks and Spencer soft toys are just as nice and much cheaper.

MugPlate · 20/10/2024 22:42

It’s good to support a British company though.
Presumably also paying UK taxes…

BlackFriYay · 20/10/2024 22:44

I'm glad I posted this and got put on to the cheaper versions. I'm going to fill DD's stocking with a bunch of them, at less than £4 each I'm thrilled and she'll be over the moon.

She's only 5.5 so won't care about the official label.

These ones are very sweet.

I have a stack of Jellycat dragons on an armchair in the house Blush but I wait ages for a good priced one on eBay or Vinted, and I'm trying to restrict myself to just the dragons Grin

Eenameenadeeka · 20/10/2024 22:45

It's crazy! My children have a few of the bunnies and my daughter has a beautiful elephant but I really don't get the appeal of the food themed ones personally

PickAChew · 20/10/2024 22:46

Bloodylovecheese · 20/10/2024 22:30

If you don't mind not having the brand name there are cheaper versions on Chinese websites... but they're all made in China probably

Jellycat isn't exactly handmade in Yorkshire.

I genuinely don't understand why adults buy these.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 20/10/2024 22:47

DS has a jellycat dinosaur he's had from birth, what he doesn't know is we've got a spare in the wardrobe because for a while he couldn't/wouldn't sleep without it and I was terrified I'd lose it as he was one for throwing stuff from the pram!

No33 · 20/10/2024 22:50

Much prefer a squishmallow!

Needmorelego · 20/10/2024 22:52

@WhamBamThankU there's a lot of things adults do that I don't understand (drink wine, go zorbing, eat caviar.....).
At least Jellycats are snuggly and soft.
🙂

PickAChew · 20/10/2024 22:52

That was the details for DS1's Jellycat aubergine, BTW. I can't get him through the fresh produce section in a supermarket without him sniggering so I figured it would be a good stocking filler. I paid. £16 and they're up for anything up to £42.

Needmorelego · 20/10/2024 22:52

@No33 yes..... I love a Squishmallow.
So...... squishy 😂

Firestace · 20/10/2024 22:55

Some people collect them, hence why the prices for rarer designs are pricey on reselling sites.

I don't think some of them are a bad price new, the quality is generally much better than a lot of others and the designs are cute. Personally I wouldn't give my child any knock offs from temu etc as so many tests have proven the materials of many items to be questionable. Most of DS' jellycats have been 50p or £1 from the charity shops.

Lunde · 20/10/2024 22:56

Have you looked on Amazon?

Chickenspeckandcluckaroud · 20/10/2024 22:57

It depends which one you're buying. If you're going for something different or retired then it will be expensive but the normal ones aren't crazy prices. I bought my DCs jelly cats for their first birthdays. I find them really soft and decent quality. A puppy and a bunny costing around £16 each.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 20/10/2024 22:57

My Jellycat Christmas poinsettia, unlike any other Christmas poinsettia, lasted the whole of December and is still sitting on the mantlepiece. The mini fir tree, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, wrapped Christmas present and mince pie will come out in December.

Sunraysunday · 20/10/2024 23:00

I like the Christmas ones, I was tempted yesterday but held out! I did see the brown Christmas tree biscuit thing in OPs post in several shops still

TheChosenTwo · 20/10/2024 23:00

My dc usually get one in their stockings, they are pretty cute!
They still like a teddy even the older ones at 19 and 20 😂

Katbum · 20/10/2024 23:05

If your DD asked for ‘jelly cat’ and she gets cheap knockoffs she will know and be disappointed, 5 or 15…just a warning, my mum loved doing similar. Still does!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 20/10/2024 23:07

My dd had one as her most wanted gift last Christmas, she begged and asked me not to get a fake one (she knows me well). I spent £18 plus postage on a bloody slice of toast and do you know where it is??? Well after her sister threw up on it because it was just left on the bedroom floor, it was washed and put in a bag of toys I wanted to sort out for charity or bin. DH put it in there by accident and I’ve been waiting for her to notice, it’s been 3 months now!

Yet, the fake jellycat plant I paid £3 for and she pulled a face out because it wasn’t real is sat nicely on her desk.

Dolallytats · 20/10/2024 23:07

There's a range of soft toys called Palm Pals that are much cheaper than Jellycat. They come in all sorts of animals, foods, snowflakes etc. My daughter loves them.....as does my purse!!

Thebackofthenorthwind · 20/10/2024 23:11

I don't think anyone can argue that you are being unreasonable. They are very cute though, my DD has a few, I try not to judge her for spending that amount of money on a soft toy.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 20/10/2024 23:12

I gave the horse one to the local charity shop, along with the pig and cow. Oh well!!
