CF parked on my driveway!

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 14:05

CF has now been parked on my driveway for at least 3 hours! Husband home soon and won’t be able to park!

My question is what can you actually practically do about this, apart from giving them an earful if you spot them returning to their car!! 😂

A quick google says

  1. the police won’t do anything (they might if it’s stoping you getting off your drive but not if they’re preventing you accessing your drive)
  2. My areas police website says try contacting the council . The councils website clearly states they will not remove vehicles or issue parking charge notices for private drives

Also you are not allowed to block them in as this is an offence to stop them leaving and obviously you can not damage their car as this would be criminal damage.

Assuming you don’t want to break the law 😂 what are you meant to legally do if someone parks on your drive??

Has anyone successfully got any type of justice against a CF?!? Or can I now just go around being a CF never paying for parking and just using other peoples drives?!?

I’d block them in.

This.

Well you have nowhere to park. When they come back take your time answering. Take it slowly. They might reconsider next time.

@quantumbutterfly

Don't think a large wedge of cheese will help actually, they might eat it! 😁

😁looking for crackers would slow them down enough for op to catch them, also long term the cholesterol effects of full fat cheese might get them...revenge is a dish best served cold.😁

I pick up from a school. I park a few streets away because its really difficult to park in the area. However, people park all over the place, blocking paths, private access and on the pavement. It's odd. Children walking to and from school are put at risk but some adults don't seem to care.

I'm waiting for the one where somebody's lovely kind DH has bought her a beautiful brand new car as a surprise and left it on the drive for her to find... but instead of her calmly asking him if he knows anything about it, so that he can reveal the wonderful surprise and the news of his big promotion at work, she's already sprinkled bird seed across the roof and got it carpet-splattered with sticky turds, scrawled offensive messages in vaseline over all the windows, got her brother to come over with the rugby team and push it into the street (with the handbrake still on), on to some double yellows, and then slashed all the tyres, smeared all the door handles with creamy dog poo and forcibly shoved two dozen large parsnips up the exhaust Grin

🤣

Title says 'driveway' - the diagram shows it is not what most of us recognise as a driveway, which is usually on a property's private land, but rather a parking bay on a public road. Not sure why that is hard to comprehend.

You're somehow misinterpreting the diagram and the OPs subsequent clarifications.
I'm not sure if there's a specific term for 'front garden turned into hardstanding for car', other than 'driveway'.

Yup. Very common in my street.

I have a more "traditional" driveway because I'm in an end-terraced house and a previous owner was able to purchase a piece of land from the council.

I dunno...melted cheese might be an interesting deterrent.

Gloriia · 16/10/2024 11:55

Yes while i understand the op's annoyance it is in no way a driveway it is an allocated space at the front of their house. Easy enough for someone to park there if unfamiliar with the area.

No. It's a front garden that has been paved. OP says some houses have retained the front garden.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 16/10/2024 14:38

I really want cheese now.

CF parked on my driveway!
PeachyPeachTrees · 16/10/2024 17:38

Last week a builder parked on my drive while I was at work because the road was full. Not my problem though. Since then I've put wheelie bins out when I go out and it's not happened again.

Rockchicknana · 16/10/2024 17:42

Bankholidayhelp · 15/10/2024 14:11

I'd block them in and put a note on their windscreen. And then when they knock you can tell them and then move the car.

Unless they are a 1st class CF I guess that they've mistaken your drive for some one elses where they have permission.

I was about to say they may have mistakenly parked on your drive thinking it was one they've booked on Just Park. If not then they're definitely CF!!

sorrow4ever · 16/10/2024 17:48

I would built something quickly around the car. They cannot touch it because it’s private property and they are more than happy to request a recovery tow to get their vehicle onto to the road.

Mumoftwins78 · 16/10/2024 17:49

Pyroleus · 15/10/2024 14:19

Block them in. When they knock, oh dear you've had a drink and won't be safe to drive for another two hours. You'll move it then.

Trim your hedges. Preferably sappy ones. Amazing how much hedge falls on your drive, which their car just happens to be parked on.

Oh dear, didn't they know about the mad local lady who chucks dog poo at people's cars? Bad luck.

If you are in Scotland, it's legal to put a wheel clamp on a car parked on your land. Unless you already possess said wheel clamp though that's not very helpful!

the law has changed the only people
to legally clamp a car in Scotland is the dvla

Block term in and leave a note on their window, "Please knock if you need to remove your car from my drive."

Mumsnet rules are as follows

  1. You MUST update
  2. You must block them in
  3. You must run and hide when they knock for you to let them out

4.. provide a diagram

That's fine if you know where the owner is. If you don't, all you can do is wait.

Personally, I'd let husband block them in. They'll have no choice but to knock on the door, giving you the opportunity to give them a jolly good scolding.

Yes, this! Just block in, he couldn't get on drive so is using your other option of parking in front of you home. Very CF, you just don't do that unless previously agreed with a good friend.

Deeperthantheocean · 16/10/2024 18:06

Boltonb · 15/10/2024 14:16

when your husband gets home, he should park them in, ideally so that he’s not directly in front of them, but so that they cannot get out.

Bonnet up, hazard lights on. Then invite your husband in to wait for breakdown services, leaving CF to wander the streets/call a taxi to get home.

Adter a few hours, go out and move your car. Even better if CF is watching 😂

Haha this is a good one!

niffynickers · 16/10/2024 18:08

I believe it's an offence to park across dropped kerb even your own so you might get a summons while the parked car owner could call the police and get off scot free

💯 block them in with your DHs car and then sadly you can’t drive 🤷🏻‍♀️and he’s had a bad day so downed a treble whiskey as soon as he walked in the door so the cars blocked and it can’t move until tomorrow AM 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

so sad…

it’s the only way people who do things like this learn it’s not okay / not to.

we did this (nicely) to a neighbour they never parked on our drive again

Edited

Sorry for late reply, I was working last night then straight on school run this morning.

To clarify the space is 100% ours. It’s our land, we would not have brought the house if it didn’t have a parking space as parking round here is a nightmare! It’s basically a small front garden that has been converted into a parking space. There is one house that still has a fence up around their space and chooses just to have a garden but 99% of the houses have converted into a parking space.

DH came home after picking up kids from school CF still there!! Had to drop kids in house then drive around looking for parking space!!

DH not happy, started walking around car taking pictures, asked immediate neighbours, was ready to post pictures on local fb group to see if anyone knows CF.

We all go inside and not long after I hear CF speeding away. Too late to catch up with them but they must have known they were in the wrong as had very quietly (and quickly) moved the 2 cones I had placed either end of car!! 😂

Bit of an anti climax sorry! I have loved all your suggestions though! I have photos of car and if they are cheeky enough to do it again I 100% will use some of them. I’m thinking 2nd offence Vaseline + bird seed and 3rd offence would be nappies + poo on handles! 😂

What an anticlimax!!

Do you mean to say you did “nothing at all”?
What was the point of moaning on here about it then?
Why didn’t your DH do anything?
So many questions 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

can you get a folding post or a telescopic post. I know it’s a bit of a spend but value for money worth it if it works. https://ultrasecuredirect.com/telescopic-security-posts-bollards--c76
