CF parked on my driveway!

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 14:05

CF has now been parked on my driveway for at least 3 hours! Husband home soon and won’t be able to park!

My question is what can you actually practically do about this, apart from giving them an earful if you spot them returning to their car!! 😂

A quick google says

  1. the police won’t do anything (they might if it’s stoping you getting off your drive but not if they’re preventing you accessing your drive)
  2. My areas police website says try contacting the council . The councils website clearly states they will not remove vehicles or issue parking charge notices for private drives

Also you are not allowed to block them in as this is an offence to stop them leaving and obviously you can not damage their car as this would be criminal damage.

Assuming you don’t want to break the law 😂 what are you meant to legally do if someone parks on your drive??

Has anyone successfully got any type of justice against a CF?!? Or can I now just go around being a CF never paying for parking and just using other peoples drives?!?

Just block them in - why not? They can knock and ask to move. They obviously have balls....

StrawberryWater · 15/10/2024 14:13

Get it towed.

I had a car towed off my drive. Mind you it had been there for 3 days and nobody came for it and nobody else would help.

Funnily enough when it was towed the owner turned up again. Oh well. Sorry, not sorry.

StrawberryWater · 15/10/2024 14:14

In the mean time block them in.

shiningstar2 · 15/10/2024 14:14

As they have taken your drive which is surely illegal, park across your drive way which will unfortunately block them in. That unfortunate circumstance is a direct result; f their total inconsideration to you and your husband. Simple explanation if they complain ...you had nowhere else to park. If they come back before your husband and you have a word before they drive away that is probably what they would have the cheek to say to you ...there was no where else to park. I can never understand why it is the cheeky people who do this can be totally outraged when they themselves find themselves blocked in. What goes around comes around and in truth it is they who have sent this particular inconvenience around ...not you 💐😁

Oh please block them in!!! I hate cf’s.

Was that not stupidly expensive?

Block them in and make yourself unavailable till tomorrow

Boltonb · 15/10/2024 14:16

when your husband gets home, he should park them in, ideally so that he’s not directly in front of them, but so that they cannot get out.

Bonnet up, hazard lights on. Then invite your husband in to wait for breakdown services, leaving CF to wander the streets/call a taxi to get home.

Adter a few hours, go out and move your car. Even better if CF is watching 😂

Pyroleus · 15/10/2024 14:19

Block them in. When they knock, oh dear you've had a drink and won't be safe to drive for another two hours. You'll move it then.

Trim your hedges. Preferably sappy ones. Amazing how much hedge falls on your drive, which their car just happens to be parked on.

Oh dear, didn't they know about the mad local lady who chucks dog poo at people's cars? Bad luck.

If you are in Scotland, it's legal to put a wheel clamp on a car parked on your land. Unless you already possess said wheel clamp though that's not very helpful!

MartinCrieffsLemon · 15/10/2024 14:20

Blocking someone's access to the road is an offense. Parking on someone's drive isn't (though it should be trespassing)

Check if someone nearby is on JustPark or similar parking app and there's been a mix up? Then you can also stick up a sign saying "this is not a driveway on JustPark. That's next door. Do not park here"

user47 · 15/10/2024 14:20

Block them in, note on car, be 'busy' when they arrive and make them wait a good 15-20 mins. Then labour the point of how inconvenient it is and go on and on and on. That should stop a repeat.

KidneyBeanie · 15/10/2024 14:22

100% block them in so they have to come and knock on your door to move it. You can block them in if you’re there to move if they ask.

Cyclebabble · 15/10/2024 14:22

It may be that one of your neighbours uses an app like JustPark and they have got the wrong space. Is the possible? I would get DH to block them in with a note and have strong words when they return.

BlaiseBaileyFinneganiii · 15/10/2024 14:14

Nope. Cost me £50 through my local garage. They came and picked it up.

The owner of the car picked up all the other fees (storage fees at the garage lot and release fees).

Might cost more with other garages though and legally you do have to wait a few days before you can do it.

You can also get it done for free if you go through the local constabulary. You need them to declare the vehicle as abandoned and they'll come and take it away for you. Might take them a while though which was why I organised it myself. I needed my driveway, I have disabled people living here.

ImaginativeUserName123 · 15/10/2024 14:23

This would really annoy me. Someone did it to me and I was following their car up about to park in my drive so they didn't get away with it. I got out, gestured to them "my drive you need to move" then gave them space to back out. It's a new build estate not near any specific area of interest, I don't even know why they were there. Very odd. I would have blocked them in if they weren't in the car to talk to. Honestly some people.

user2848502016 · 15/10/2024 14:23

I would block them in so they are forced to knock and ask you to move

Also post on any local Facebook groups with their number plate visible - name & shame!

RevelryMum · 15/10/2024 14:23

I without a doubt would block them in so they have to knock to get out

gabsdot · 15/10/2024 14:24

Block them in and when they knock to ask you to move your car tell them you've had a drink and can't drive but they can come back tomorrow.

malmi · 15/10/2024 14:24

Need a diagram for a parking thread

skyeisthelimit · 15/10/2024 14:26

Your DH needs to block them in because its his drive and he has nowhere else to park. They can then knock on your door and ask him to move it...

Coconutter24 · 15/10/2024 14:26

Is there a way your DH can pull up behind them? I’m team block them in!

Nottodaty · 15/10/2024 14:26

Do you know if anyone rents their drive using one of the Apps? Might be worth checking to see if one very local to you and someone has got the address wrong?

Or like my friend whose landlord decided to suddenly start renting out the drive way as she didn’t have a car…without telling her!

ilovelamp82 · 15/10/2024 14:27

Definitely block them in and have a glass of wine to hand. And most importantly, report back.

icouldholditwithacobweb · 15/10/2024 14:27

Just block them in, what do you think is going to happen? If they call the police, the CF will be told to knock on your door and ask you to move so they can get out. The police won't do anything else, they haven't the resources. And the CFs will have learned a valuable lesson.

Lellojello · 15/10/2024 14:27

Block them, then when they knock hang head out of upstairs window saying you are on an important zoom call, then promptly close window. Let them sweat for a bit.
