maybe she (Sara) was threatened if she didn't say that.

Likely. I'm trying Not to follow, but this is like when family DV attackers get Their kids to testify on tape how awful their mum is

Sharif, who is 12 years older than Batool, denied getting hold of her phone number from a shopkeeper at Woking station, insisting they met in his taxi. Ms Carberry said he had known that Batool had been a “victim of honour-based” abuse and been placed in a refuge when she was a teenager.

Didn't he also have a marriage ceremony to a cousin? I'm assuming that's not her if he didn't already know her

I guess they 'married' at some point after meeting?

Indeed. You don't have video recorder ready to record things child says when they say it.

throughthewoods · 13/11/2024 13:06

Apparently the neighbours didn't think they could be child abusers, despite the screaming, because they were all nicely dressed. This clueless shit is right up there with thinking only people with an untidy house are child abusers. This case should lead to some fucking national soul searching about class attitudes, amongst other things.

Also, how does an uber driving gambler afford a nice house in Surrey and flights to Pakistan? I fear there's worse than domestic abuse under this rock, but he will be painted as simply an animal and shoved in jail and the rock won't be lifted.

hotpotlover · 13/11/2024 14:17

How horrific. I would like to castrate this guy.

MulinoDarco · 13/11/2024 14:35

So he took full responsibility now. What about the bite marks and the woman who cannot be asked to provide dental examination due to her “rights"? I guess she could bite a piece of apple? Wouldn’t the police have to be obligated to gather evidence? If the woman wasn’t in the court the police would be checking handprints etc right? So why not bite marks?

I feel sick about this case. UK has become a paradise for criminals. No wonder they wanted to be trialled here. The more you read the more shite come out. He abuses three women, tries to burn one, suffocates with a belt, child protection, then courts gift the little girl to him, SS dont give a shit, no-one checks home schooling decision for a girl who is protected under SS and has been seen with bruises. Neighbours turn a blind eye.

There is zero protection for the vulnerable and all the protection for the monsters! What the hell has gone wrong here?

crumblingschools · 13/11/2024 15:39

@throughthewoods I sat in a safeguarding course for school volunteers and one of the volunteers said they didn't need to worry about the statistics they were being told about child abuse as nothing like that happened in the naice village where their school was.

Naunet · 13/11/2024 15:44

Whoever decided this vile, weak monster should have custody, needs to be held accountable. In sick of judges and other authorities playing Russian roulette with children's safety.

roxyro · 13/11/2024 17:29

This country is such a soft touch and it sickens me. There are some from certain communities that totally abuse the system here. They live in a parallel society and have no truc with our societal mores.

apart from the sickening horrors this vulnerable child was subjected to by her vile father, who was biting her and burning her with an iron? It wasn’t him or his brother and she refuses to give dental impressions.

upthtead someone made a passioned defence for her reluctance to do so and the dreadful abuse of her human rights if forced to do so. I shall only say that if I was ever suspected of such a thing and faced life in prison I’d be begging them to take my teeth impressions in order to prove my innocence.

i’m in no way defending this vile man but I find it strange he has suddenly changed his story and taken full responsibility for Sara’s injuries. In their community pressure may have been brought to bear in order to maintain some twisted idea of honour. I believe she’s just as involved as him and I do wonder about the other children.

As for the family courts etc. I have no words. To think a child could be subjected to such violence in this country and for it to go unchallenged is a very sad and disturbing reflection of just far down the UK has sunk.

RIP Sara.

Jukeboxjive · 13/11/2024 19:07

@MulinoDarco I agree although we only hear about the cases that failed.

This man needs deporting he has abused our laws and systems to get into UK and we don't want to waste money on him.

Peonies007 · 14/11/2024 09:43

Lots more came up yesterday, inc that father shared belt with his brother (and likely dna transfer that way) and how and when beatings happened. Warning, it's quite horrible.

That poor innocent little girl! He is a vile excuse for a human being and I hope he rots in jail!

Lalgarh · 14/11/2024 10:51

In the Baby P case, the kid was being battered already by his stepdad, but the arrival of his (younger, but more domineering iirc) brother supercharged the abuse into the sadism that was inflicted on him as the household pecking order was established

Thetrickcyclist · 14/11/2024 16:19

The Guildford Dragon press reports have given very detailed accounts of the cross-examination questioning and responses. It's absolutely distressing and horrifying to read let alone listen to. I really feel for the jurors in particular.

MichaelandKirk · 14/11/2024 20:56

Words just fail me. At the end of the trial I suspect a lot more will be revealed. How can an Uber driver afford Emirates Business Class tickets to come back to the UK. Did they come back voluntarily?

I think the police might have arranged the tickets as they'd have more space to arrest them/less passengers crowded in. At least they won't have enjoyed the trip.

GiveMeSpanakopita · 15/11/2024 12:48

I really cannot bear to think of the horror poor Sara suffered. Those people are lower than animals. The Prosecutor is doing such a good job he is her mouthpiece in the courtroom. Serious questions need to be asked when this is all over, about home schooling, the monitoring of serially abusive men, all that. For now I just want justice for poor Sara and those monsters sent down forever. To think that she suffered cruelty as she lay dying and was not held by loving arms, she died with the knowledge that her world was nothing but cruelty with no love, it's horrible, horrible, horrible

Shortshriftandlethal · 15/11/2024 12:58

That a child can be surrounded by adults who do nothing to help; who fail to step in.......is awful. Children are powerless and totally dependent on the adults in their life. Have to say I'm particularly haunted by this case, as I was for many years about the case of Victoria Climbie......both girls of around 10 years old.

In the photos Sara seems such a naturally sunny child.. How did she manange to deal with such extreme abuse for so long and remain in any way functional?
If I'd have been a teacher in Sara's school I honestly think I would have gone around to her home and asked to see her ( especially when she was kept away from school), and i would definitely have pursued it further with social services and even the police.

As an abused child I can give you my experience which is that I remained sunny and happy at school (until I got to a point where my mental health failed so badly that it became an emergency). I knew school was a safe place, and I compartmentalised heavily. Also, at least when I was Sara's age, I thought the abuse was deserved due to my 'being naughty' and I naturally wasn't keen to tell my teacher exactly how naughty I'd been in case she started punishing me too.

Shame must be an over-powering emotion too........the child feels the badness is all theirs.

Alltheyearround · 15/11/2024 17:53

Awful that no-one stood up for her. Glad the law is now holding them accountable but too little, too late. What a terrible life.

Absolute bastards.

I saw a picture of her house and was absolutely horrified to see it appears to be a semi detached.

Those bastards next door take soem blame as far as I am concerned.
