Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

don't understand why they've said it was an in joke when it's clear from the video that she's uncomfortable and doesn't want the hand there

Probably because the show's reputation is already on dodgy ground and any more scandals could finish it off.

He nearly had his hand on her bum in the post-dance interview. I'm surprised no one is talking about that!

She had her legs around his waist. Is that ok?

Indeed. She didn't seem to hold back after they had been voted through.

Most of the strictly couples hug each other and put hands round waists . I think this is being blown up out of all proportion.

Why do they do this though.

You don't think that is clearly planned and consented for?

These shows are executed with precision, especially in the wake of recent events. It is therefore glaringly obvious when someone consciously or subconsciously does something someone else genuinely doesn't like.

Wasn't the orignal premis , the idea that a famous person who was a novice dancer would learn? Famous. In the world of sport, media, acting.
Now we have aman who sings " Go Compare" and has issues with boudaries.

Famous. Not eminent. Nobody's expecting them to cast Chris Witty and Mark Rylance, just people that a decent proportion of the audience would have heard of.

By comparison with some previous contestants who haven't even had their own Wikipedia page, or are only famous for being someone else's wife/son/daughter, the bloke from the Go Compare advert who's had a daily show on Radio Wales for years and performed many of the greatest leading roles in opera in the top opera houses in the UK is both famous and legitimately talented.

HRTQueen · 14/10/2024 17:33

She moved his hand its not for anyone to decide if is ok for his hand to be there or not she has the choice to move his hand away and did

She was pissed off about something with him after the non high five she also placed her hand over his on her shoulder - as though she is keeping his hand in place but maybe not, but the camera didn't lie his hand was moved and she was then pissed off

the joke thing is a ridiculous pr spun story by the SCD team desperate to bat away any concerns that may be raised which has backfired

Exactly my point- the show sends mixed messages continually. It is almost all fake.Who is to know what is agreed and by whom?

MumOfOneAllAlone · 14/10/2024 17:36

Apologises if this has been said but I think she's suffering at strictly

Shirley obviously doesn't like her and makes it so clear. Seems to me that Wynne thinks he can get away with murder because she's disliked.

I 100% think he was being inappropriate. In the clip where she moves his hands, we've all been in a situation with a creep like that. And the weird look jamie Borthwick gave him made it all the more clear for me

The clip where she 'avoids his hi 5' seemed to me like she turned around to admonish him for being inappropriate and he held his hands up to say he's innocent!!

It seems to me she feels forced to make out like it's nothing due to her fear of losing her job 🥺🥺

Most TV is lies. I think she was genuinely uncomfortable here though, rightly so. It is her body, her choice.

Arche · 14/10/2024 14:40

Wynne slowly slid his hand across Katya’s body to get his hand in this position. Causing Katya to push Wynne’s hand away.

If my husband did that to a young woman I would be appalled and questioning what kind of perv I was married to

Weird joke.

LBFseBrom · 14/10/2024 17:45

None of us really knows but they have addressed this issue and said they were larking about so let us give him the benefit of the doubt.

Scandalmongering tabloids make me sick, as if there isn't enough real news to comment on.

Yes the over familiarity on this show has always made me uncomfortable....its fine for the dance routine but it's not normal to be standing holding and hugging a relative stranger for ages.its not something any of us do in daily life. You would stand close to your dance partner and hug when you have been awarded points or something but not like this...its strange. And definitely a mixed message.

Especially when the men are virtually bare chested!

Because it doesn’t fit in with the MN narrative that all men are beasts

or that we are very aware of how protective the BBC are over SCD

especially this year they can not afford to have any more scandals

Patienceinshortsupply · 14/10/2024 17:55

He looked like an over excited school boy after that dance, and she did jump up and put her legs around his waist which to me implies a level of intimacy she's comfortable with.

But she didn't look comfortable at all when she moved his hand. Who knows...

Dotto · 14/10/2024 17:57

I always assumed the touchy-feely aspect comes from its Strictly Ballroom / Baz Lurhman Moulin Rouge roots.

Not an excuse to hate on Katya.

hattie43 · 14/10/2024 17:57

I didn't see anything wrong at all . Heightened emotions and he touched her , just saw friendly support and nothing sinister

She rolled her eyes at him. If she does find him "off" she is doing no favours to anyone saying its just a joke. That's my thoughts on it. Her face spoke volumes but I'm no psychologist so maybe it is just banter.

But still I think him putting his hand in the middle of her torso, her moving his hand back and seemingly not liking it being just a joke feels off as in idk I feel it diminishes unwanted touching. But that's my take.

Weird "in joke"

If she finds him 'off' as you say why on earth would she launch herself at him and wrap her legs around him?

Bogginsthe3rd · 14/10/2024 18:09

If you go compare! the actions to the explanation, they don't match up
