Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

Best case scenario, he slid his hand around further without thinking. It does look like something she was uncomfortable with on at least an instinctive level. She is now protecting him.

Respectisnotoptional · 14/10/2024 15:45

It’s ridiculous to single this one incident out when everyone up there was kissing and hugging, they do it every week, and I don’t for one minute think Wynne was deliberately doing anything offensive. It’s typical Social Media once again destroying some’s life in a moment of time.
I think Wynne will end up leaving and it’s a real shame, it’s not the first time Katya has caused trouble on Strictly, maybe time for her to leave.

McCauslandOnSpeeddial · 14/10/2024 15:45

Ok, once more for those at the back, the high five thing honestly is a running joke.

Wynne may or may not be sleazy, but the high fives are not evidence of Katya's feelings. And yes of course she is a brilliant facial actress, it's her job, so if she wants to express OTT disdain as part of a joke then she'd be completely believable, and I wouldn't put any faith in that either. (I don't think she really is passionately in love with Kai, even though that's exactly what she looked like in their results show dance).

I've only seen what one clip this morning, but to me it came came across Katya really doesn't want to anything to do with Wynne in terms of contact and fun. I don't know what's behind it, but I'd hope that a dancer of that experience would know to speak up if something is happening behind the scenes that aren't right.

However, if you look at the other contestants and professionals, it's clearly a very physical thing they're taking part in and they have to accept that no matter who they're with - most seem to embrace it and totally want to do the best for eachother. Sarah Hadland's professional partner totally had his arms swamped around her while waiting for the results last night, but it came across as totally supportive.

Are the ratings falling on this show? Seems like a stunt to me, everyone reacts and they come out and say it was a joke all along. Hmmm.

user1471556818 · 14/10/2024 15:47

Actually I'm fed up of all the touching on strictly now .Dear god poor nick you have a sore arm but its OK your dance partner is going to keep touching it , hang off you, but oh it's been so sore .Well stop touching him . Let's all just calm down chill down and stop feeling like they have to be attached to each other or we the viewers will think something is wrong. Are they instructed to cling to each other ?.
Can we just stop it now please

Hoppinggreen · 14/10/2024 15:48

Clearly of low morals, you only have to look at the little strumpet
She deserves to have men old enough to be her dad paw her, if she didn't like it she could get a respectable job that involved keeping her clothes on.
These poor men being led astray by these women
(sarcasm)

Well the judges do comment if they think there is no connection or chemistry between a couple….

Why are people ignoring Katya herself who has said it's total nonsense?

“It was a silly joke” apparently

What was the joke? It don't understand what was supposed to be funny.

ExtraOnions · 14/10/2024 15:52

…we should always believe what women say.. unless it doesn’t meet our agenda, and then we shouod ignore it.

The number of people not listening to what Katya is saying, discounting her feeling, and assuming they know better. Patronising Misogynistic bullshit

It’s the same people who would be wetting themselves was it Pete and Jowita.

Urgh his hand isn’t just placed there, he sort of creeps it across doesn’t he 🤮

That's the bit I didn't like TBH, it looked quite intimate.

I think resting your hand on someone waist when you are standing together like that is perfectly fine, but him slowly rubbing his whole hand across her stomach looked completely out of place, and no matter what they say, it obviously made her uncomfortable enough to tactfully stop it.

I do wonder what was going through his mind as he did it though.

No one in their right mind, would ever 'joke' something like that in this day and age.

TorroFerney · 14/10/2024 15:53

derxa · 14/10/2024 14:38

Katya has quirky sense of humour. I can well believe the joke.

If it was a joke and she suggested it surely he’d say Jesus I’m not doing that or being part of that I’ll get pilloried. And if he suggested it well that’s also very odd.

Boomer55 · 14/10/2024 15:53

It’s a light entertainment programme. The professional and the amateur always hug and cuddle. If the amateurs don’t want all that, they should turn down the money and not go on it. The show has been going long enough for them to know what it involves. 🤷‍♀️

Dotto · 14/10/2024 15:55

Yes it's the creeping across. I think his and her actions were instinctive. You wouldn't joke about sexual assault and think they've panicked in their response.

Wilfrida1 · 14/10/2024 15:55

I wish someone would stop Tess pawing every contestant.

Because she's been allegedly brainwashed and coerced and possibly held at gunpoint by the BBC to give this forced apology.

Katya is not causing trouble, she dealt with it at the time and it's the press who are picking this up and delighted there is more to crucify Strictly with.

I applaud Katya for stopping the touching. Why should she put up with being groped?

TorroFerney · 14/10/2024 15:58

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2024 15:23

I think they do all touch each other unnecessarily tbh. The sitting on top of each other in any interview is ridiculous.

I think that we are being gaslit into believing that what we saw was a 'pre-planned joke' and for whatever reason the two of them are now making videos suggesting that people are silly for thinking otherwise. I don't necessarily think it was an assault or more sinister than any of the other touching we see but there's no way they were joking in the moment.

I agree, there’s no need for it. I assume the bbc tell them to do it? There was someone I can’t remember who a woman who when she got introduced to her partner on the first show did what most normal people would do ie not jump all over a complete stranger and hug and kiss them and I thought good for you.

Most of the strictly couples hug each other and put hands round waists . I think this is being blown up out of all proportion.

Because if she admitted that she felt uncomfortable during the incident then it would have to be taken seriously and may even end with him being booted off the show, she probably didn't feel it was serious enough to make a big deal of it when she quite aptly shut it down at the time, and she has obviously underestimated the general reaction would be.

Also, it's quite obvious from that clip that she is smoothing things over, otherwise she would have explained what the inside 'joke' is... it's not a joke, he moved his hand on her, it made her feel a little uncomfortable so she dealt with it.. if it was a joke she would probably have dramatically slapped his hand and looked faux shocked, instead of subtly moving it away and looking uncomfortable.

No one would 'joke' about something like this in front of millions of people.

She wasn’t being groped, stop exaggerating, he had his hand on her waist just like all the other celebrities!

HeartandSeoul · 14/10/2024 16:02

I started to type a thread on this exact subject y’day, but decided I couldn’t be dealing with people thinking I was overthinking it all.

Personally, I didn’t like what I saw. It was the way his hand slid further around her waist, and the look on her face, that told it wasn’t appropriate. The fact they have now done a video, where they say it was a ‘joke’, tells me that the BBC haven’t learned from the past.
