Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

That look where she left him hanging. Spoke a million words.

She can't stand him 😂

Oh she jumped on him after the dance, or oh it was just bants, utter bollocks.

The utter look of disdain on her face, you can't fake that level of disgust.

It probably hasn't even got anything to do with his letchy waist rub. I imagine she just can't bear him .

It happen.

We all work with people we don't like but act civil to get through the day with no dramas.

Wheresthebeach · 14/10/2024 15:21

If she'd been happy and comfortable with it, she wouldn't have moved it away. She had to keep smiling to keep it professional. Yes there is a lot of hugging etc on the show, but its different when both people are clearly comfortable. I think his hand was moving in a way that make her uncomfortable and she moved it. I dislike him turning himself into the crying misunderstood man. If he'd just apologised, expressed utmost respect for Katya it would have been better.

Scenty · 14/10/2024 15:21

People won’t settle until they have absolutely destroyed this show and then they will cry about there being no wholesome family shows on TV anymore. They can’t win 🤷‍♀️

MrsFinkelstein · 14/10/2024 15:21

IMO it's been blown out of all proportion. It's a 3 second interaction that's been cropped and slowed down and played out of context which then heightens it.

Had his hand been on her breast, her bum or her groin then that is inappropriate. It was on her waist and partly her stomach for seconds. Katya moved it and he didn't do it again.

They are 2 adults and they've dealt with it

cherrysodas · 14/10/2024 15:21

Where are the chaperones? Surely they can clear this up.

If he were a gentleman he would place his hand on her shoulder, to me he is quite clearly copping a feel

You've evidently made up your mind about the situation, given your choice of words and I doubt if you're particularly interested in a range of viewpoints.
FWIW I think the media have been delighted to get people worked up. If the BBC feel he's done wrong they can throw him off the show. If I were him I'd be considering walking.

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2024 15:23

I think they do all touch each other unnecessarily tbh. The sitting on top of each other in any interview is ridiculous.

I think that we are being gaslit into believing that what we saw was a 'pre-planned joke' and for whatever reason the two of them are now making videos suggesting that people are silly for thinking otherwise. I don't necessarily think it was an assault or more sinister than any of the other touching we see but there's no way they were joking in the moment.

Annalikesblue · 14/10/2024 15:24

No one has the right to touch anyone.

It's always the men who put their arms round the women on that show, not the other way round.

If one of our male colleagues came up to us, hugged us, and slid his arm right round onto our tummy, how would we feel?

NoahsTortoise · 14/10/2024 15:25

If this is true then it's surely the joke they are referring to and it's been dragged up in light of what happened with the hand incident to make some sort of fake drama story.

Tbh I think what's happened is both things have happened on the same night, people are complaining about the 'hand incident' meaning Wynn's hand on her belly, but they have chosen to interpret that as people talking about the high five and ignored hand-on-belly-gate, and that's why they are saying it's a joke. The high five is the joke.

You can’t seriously compare Strictly to an office situation. It’s a cauldron of emotion and sexual tension.

TheKeatingFive · 14/10/2024 15:28

The moving the hand thing - she clearly didn't want it there. That was not a joke.

The high five was different though. Their reactions to it looked like they were messing. From what I could see anyway.

Agreed

That's just not true. The female professionals can sometimes be very hands on and the female celebrities are often very happy to touch their professional partners.

I think the speculation on this is in really poor taste and some people are determined to paint WE as a letch and a perv. Social media is doing what it does again: judging, passing sentence and potentially causing terrible damage.

ValsCupcakes · 14/10/2024 15:30

I totally fancy my work colleague. It is not appropriate as he is married and has a family. He doesn't know, at least I hope not, as I've never made it obvious. But even with me feeling like that about him if he put his hands on me I would be very uncomfortable and I would stop it there and then.

They are paid colleagues though.

And they have workplace rights.

HahaNo · 14/10/2024 15:30

It’s problematic however you look at it. Either she’s not comfortable with his hand moving around her waist and moves him. Or they both think that inappropriate touching is some kind of joke. I don’t get what’s funny about that.

Wynne slowly slid his hand across Katya’s body to get his hand in this position. Causing Katya to push Wynne’s hand away.

If my husband did that to a young woman I would be appalled and questioning what kind of perv I was married to

I very Initially was like 🤢🤢🤢 after seeing the video
but then after rewatching and seeing other peoples reactions was a bit more on the fence like “is it that bad?” “Maybe he wasn’t thinking” do we really want to vilify this guy and have a trial by social media over 5 seconds of stupid???

BUT actually I think you are totally right….if my husband did this I would be slacked jawed and appalled and think he was a sleazy perv

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 14/10/2024 15:31

The joke is that all the couples on strictly all gush over each other. Katya and Wynn were taking the piss out of that.

And the high five thing with her look of real dislike is a joke in the opposite direction?

I'm surprised that with everything that's happened with strictly they weren't all read the riot act at the start of the series.

Alifemoreordinary123 · 14/10/2024 15:31

I think the hand slip thing is nowhere near as telling as the high five that wasn’t. The look she gave him was very telling and difficult to explain

It was an 'i wish you just just fuck off and never come back', total 'i am so over you', look of exasperation 😂😂

BobbyBiscuits · 14/10/2024 15:36

It's clear they're playing a character. The ugly goofy bloke and the beautiful, dismissive, slightly dominant partner.
I very much doubt it was anything other than that. It didn't even look very convincing as an act. They just need some kind of gossip around the show to keep people interested. It's so boring really and I don't understand how people can watch it! A couple of my mates do, no judgement. It just seems so false and cheesy.

itwasnevermine · 14/10/2024 15:39

It's very clear she was uncomfortable but has now been told to say she was fine with it

I agree. The level of body contact while they're all in the Clauditorium is totally OTT. They are all forever hugging, squeezing, touching, jumping on each other, leaning heads together so they touch etc etc. It's yuck and totally fake.

My view is that yes, he did place his hand on her torso and it did move towards the middle of her torso but she was leaning into it (moving to her right very slightly) and then thought 'nope' so she moved his hand and covered the move by placing her left hand up to it too.

He's made an error of judgement and he's been pulled up on it, just by Katya's behaviour at the moment in time and she's probably spoken to him as a consequence.

itwasnevermine · 14/10/2024 15:39

How is it clear though? That's your interpretation. She is saying something totally different. Sure she might have been coerced to say it by the BBC or whatever but I don't think whatever is happening is 'clear' at all. I think it attracts the sort of people who like to say things like 'he's obviously a latch' and 'she definitely can't stand him' when really they have no idea beyond their own take on it from 5 seconds of TV footage.

Pp said the high 5 thing has been a running joke between them since the start of the series. Ill judged perhaps with the recent scandals but if it's true then it makes the whole thing seem a lot less iffy in my opinion.
