To be annoyed by this parking?

Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed by this parking? We live quite near a school which has no parking and so parents use our road to park on when dropping off/picking up. We get a lot of people parking by/across our drive as per the attached picture. It’s debatable whether it’s actually across our drive, but it makes it tricky to swing out of the drive especially if there is a car parked the other side of the drive too.

That looks fine to me.

Mumistiredzzzz · 14/10/2024 09:10

Can't see the issue based on this picture. looks plenty of room and they're barely across your drive. It's the issue you face if you choose to love near a school. I live near a school too, you get poor parking but really it's only for a short time twice a day.

user2848502016 · 14/10/2024 09:10

Wouldn't bother me tbh, it's not preventing you getting off or on your drive

SharpWriter · 14/10/2024 09:12

They're not doing anything wrong as such, but it makes it difficult for you to get out as you can't see what's coming from the right without really sticking your nose out. If the road is busy it's even worse. So I can see why you're annoyed.

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 14/10/2024 09:16

I was expecting a much more egregious offence. I can’t see that causing any great problem to a competent driver. It’s worse when a big truck parks in similar position and totally blocks the view from that direction.

rwalker · 14/10/2024 09:16

I can see why it makes it awkward but they are doing nothing wrong

lazyarse123 · 14/10/2024 09:19

I'd be annoyed too especially if someone was parked on the other side. I had someone park a massive SUV like that and luckily my ndn was out so I could get out but it was a proper ballache. People are so selfish these days.

Atishooo · 14/10/2024 09:20

They’re shit at parking either way, about a foot from the curb. My mil parks like this.

BarbaraHoward · 14/10/2024 09:21

I think that's fine tbh. Different if they were actually blocking you in, but they aren't, they're just making it tricky.

School parking can be an utter nightmare, but I wouldn't count this as problematic. When parking is in short supply, you need to squeeze every car possible in.

StuffYouLike · 14/10/2024 09:21

I think it's mildly annoying. It does hinder you getting out your drive but that's not the end of the world. It add, maybe, 10 seconds to your journey. I wouldn't be annoyed at the person who parked there.

Inspireme2 · 14/10/2024 09:22

Park forwards?

Ifailed · 14/10/2024 09:23

They've clearly made an effort not to block your drive, so unless there's parking restrictions on your road I can't see what the problem is.

Nursemumma92 · 14/10/2024 09:24

Nothing wrong with this parking, understand it makes it more difficult to swing out but I live on a road like this and you just have to edge out slowly.

HotSource · 14/10/2024 09:32

Not really an issue.

Part of driving is navigating and negotiating other vehicles. Just how much of the public road do you demand be kept clear so that you can ‘swing out’?

There are so many cars on the road. All car owners are to some extent an inconvenience to someone else.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 14/10/2024 09:32

Nothing wrong there. Having a drive guarantees you access to your property (as long as nobody blocks it illegally), but that doesn't mean you get as much space as you might like to be able to sweep in and out at leisure; you may well have to manoeuvre your vehicle in order to use the access.

By having a drive (and no beef with that; so do we), you're already taking out of action a potential public parking space on the street (in front of your drive); you can't expect to take out two additional spaces, either side, just to make it super convenient for you.

minisomum · 14/10/2024 09:34

They are parked with their wheel well over the dropped kerb, so technically they are blocking you. Your drive is massive by the looks of it though, so you should have no issues getting on and off it.

ViaRia01 · 14/10/2024 09:36

@Atishooo i was taught to park ‘1 drain’s width’ from the kerb so this photo looks fine to me. Is that not the general advice everyone is given…?

Jammymare · 14/10/2024 09:36

Is everyone saying there’s nothing wrong missing that the wheel is completely over the dropped curb?
I mean it’s mildly annoying and I wouldn’t do anything more than huff internally to myself, but it is still a parking offence.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 14/10/2024 09:36

Their wheel shouldn't be over any part of your dropped kerb but it's such a small difference and such a generous dropped kerb that I'd find it hard to care about this.

No. Why would you want to be that far from the kerb?

SophiaJ8 · 14/10/2024 09:38

They’re on the dropped kerb, so yanbu.

Cannot abide lazy school collection parking.

Some here think we should give them more leeway when it’s raining - not a chance.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 14/10/2024 09:41

Also, I presume that you're parking according to the Highway Code and reversing in to your drive?

If you're one of the many people who prefer to make it much more difficult and dangerous for themselves by driving in, so they then have to reverse out, you can't really complain that another driver's parking is restricting your vision when leaving your drive, when that was your own choice.

loveydoveyloon · 14/10/2024 09:42

YANBU how are you supposed to reverse and get off the drive safely

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 14/10/2024 09:43

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 14/10/2024 09:37

No. Why would you want to be that far from the kerb?

Indeed. You haven't actually parked; you've just stopped in traffic!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 14/10/2024 09:43

A bit thoughtless leaving part of their car over the dropped kerb. But can you still get off your drive? If you can, consider it doing this person a small favour.
