To be annoyed by this parking?

Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed by this parking? We live quite near a school which has no parking and so parents use our road to park on when dropping off/picking up. We get a lot of people parking by/across our drive as per the attached picture. It’s debatable whether it’s actually across our drive, but it makes it tricky to swing out of the drive especially if there is a car parked the other side of the drive too.

I would be annoyed by this too, though strictly speaking I believe it's only a parking contravention if the vehicle is physically over the point where the footway meets the road (i.e. the totally dropped bit).

You could apply to the council to have white h-bars across your drive way, which would encapsulate the dropping part (I think).

They're not enforceable, but they might "encourage" people to park more carefully.

We don’t know which car arrived first or how much space there is behind the other car, do we?

True. The angle of parking suggested someone who saw a not quite big enough spot, tucked up close to the other car so as not to overhang the driveway, and then just abandoned it. If there'd been a spae when they'd arrived, I'd have thought they'd have pulled a bit further forward. Of course they could have parked behind and even smaller car which left and was replaced by one which parked too close.

They’re shit at parking either way, about a foot from the curb. My mil parks like this.

I have to be that far away from the kerb, or I can't get out the car. There needs to be enough room for my size 9 shoes on the road if there is a raised kerb

MulderitsmeX · 14/10/2024 18:07

There is LOADS of space here, nobody can park directly opposite your drive from what i can see. Unless your car is an actual bus this is no problem at all.

My neighbour used to have 2 cars so permanently parked like this, just meant I got reallly good at reversing onto my drive :D

Could you not park facing in the other direction?!

Whatjemimadid · 15/10/2024 00:33

It doesn't look so bad but if it makes life difficult I think you can pay the council to paint a white line that extends past the white line. Our nearby neighbour had one and screams at anyone who parks near it. I never do because I'm bored of her but she tells at parents and delivery drivers all day long. Its annoying but to be expected if you live near a school

I don't drive. I can't get out in the middle of the road with the door swung wind open. It takes me a bit of effort to get out of a car

Is everyone saying there’s nothing wrong missing that the wheel is completely over the dropped curb?
I mean it’s mildly annoying and I wouldn’t do anything more than huff internally to myself, but it is still a parking offence.

This! I can’t believe all the responses so far!

LilyOfTheValley33 · 15/10/2024 07:27

Thanks for all your responses. It seems like there is a parking offence but I am being unreasonable to get annoyed about it and should just suck it up. I have actually never said anything to anyone, but do sigh inwardly in frustration! I have young children myself and so most mornings I have already left the house on the school/nursery run before all the parents arrive and park up. However, they are all there when I get back and sometimes it is such a stress to get back onto my own drive.

Yesterday, because of the way that car was parked I couldn’t swing straight onto my drive and so had to do a big of manoeuvring on the road whilst a car coming the opposite direction honked its horn at me to hurry up (probably a late parent). I also frequently have to mount and drive along the pavement to get past cars coming the other way and the way cars are parked.

We did know there was a school nearby when we bought the house, but have been shocked by how many cars park on our street because we are actually not that close to the school. All the houses in the street have their own driveways so the only people that park in the street are visitors/builders/delivery vans etc - and the school parents!
