For context: I'm 36, mum of three (youngest is 2.5), work four days a week.

Im also someone who needs a lot of sleep.

So... introductions over. I'm in bed for 8/8.30 and asleep 8.30-9 every night. I then get up at 5.30/6 with my toddler.

Aibu to ask your age and when you go to sleep?

BeyondMyWits · 13/10/2024 20:58

I'm 60, retired ... in bed at 10.00 asleep by 10.02... woken at 6.30 by ddog wanting out, or dd22 getting ready to go to teacher training placement - on bus at 7.00.

DelilahBucket · 13/10/2024 20:58

39, in bed by 10:30 on work nights, asleep by 11:15 ish, alarm at 7:15.

Ihateboris · 13/10/2024 20:58
  1. Go to bed around 8pm during the week as I get up at 5am to walk the dogs and then workout.
lalaloopyhead · 13/10/2024 20:59

51 and 10pm, even at the weekend unless I have been out somewhere and get back later as I need wind down time rather than going straight to bed.

ForGreyKoala · 13/10/2024 20:59

65 - usually between 10 - 11 pm, sleep between 11 - 12 pm (I read in bed every night)

  1. I like to get in bed after tea ( about 7) watch telly . Read until midnight ...then hopefully fall asleep. I have a lot of pain insomnia..so don't have a set pattern at all.

As someone with chronic pain and insomnia for over 30 years I feel I should tell you that staying still normally worsens pain and being in bed for too long not sleeping worsens insomnia. Apologies if you already know this and there is a reason why you do this but I learnt the long and hard way.

This is insane, do the majority of people go to bed really early? Gosh I need to make changes!

I'm 39, 3 kids. Bed 11.30, up 5.30/6. I thought 6 hours was normal for busy mums!

Edited

It's a really interesting thread, isn't it? I have often (in the last ten years) wondered why my parents could actually stay up until 11pm without dying of boredom and uncomfortableness!
It's got to be the internet, and the fact we can cosy up in bed, and entertain ourselves way more than they could in bed, (no pun intended) as in my day, dad retired to bed after 'the 10 o'clock news'.

gingercat02 · 13/10/2024 20:59

55 anywhere between 10pm and midnight. I no longer have children who get me up. I work part-time but every day.
My sleep has been awful for about 16 years - non sleeping baby and terrible work stress killed my epic sleeping habit, and it never recovered

bruffin · 13/10/2024 20:59

62 and got to bed between 12 and 1 most nights ,alarm at 5,50 on work days, never been a great sleeper, just to drive my DM mad as a child.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/10/2024 21:00

43 and about 10 depending on how I feel. I try to go to sleep around 10.30 but it’s normally 11. Get up around 6.45 tues, weds, thurs and 7.30 mon and Fri and about 8 at weekends

mindutopia · 13/10/2024 21:00

That sounds amazing! If my dc were asleep at that time, I definitely would be too.

I’m 43 and go to bed 9:30/10, though usually not asleep before 11pm. My dc are 6 & 11 and unfortunately not asleep before 9:30pm. I don’t get up until 7am though, most days.

Yabu.

Early 60s, no young children (obvs!) I go to bed between 10pm and midnight, most usually around 10.30 to 11.00. I sleep for four hours, awake for two or three hours, and then sleep again for another two or three hours.

This is my sleep pattern, but I don't agree that YABU. Also, I don't have to be up for young kids or work at 9am any more.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/10/2024 21:01

57 bed at 10:30. Asleep by 11:30. Up at 6am.

Fevertreelover · 13/10/2024 21:01

49, varies from 11-midnight. Up at 8.30.

robinsrace · 13/10/2024 21:01

26 and usually in bed for 9:30, but will go earlier if I'm able! Up at 6 for breakfast and to walk the dog

ChishiyaBat · 13/10/2024 21:02

44 and I go to bed midnight-1am ish, asleep straight away, alarm for 9.30 on work days, no alarm if i'm not working. I love my sleep and can sleep 10-12 hours no problem. Feel crappy if I don't have 7-8hours.

usernother · 13/10/2024 21:03

In my 60's. Go to bed at 9 every night. Watch tv for an hour, then lights out. I fall asleep usually some time between 11 and 2. Wake up a few times during the night for the loo. Wake up anytime between 5 and 8. I've always been able to function on little sleep but sometimes I'd like more.

sagalooshoe · 13/10/2024 21:03

50 yrs
Bed at 11pm - lights off by midnight.
Up at 7.15

Relearningbehaviour · 13/10/2024 21:03
  1. 4 kids between 5 and 11. I got to sleep anytime between 11pm and 1am and probably away for the 2 younger 2 in the night a few times a week. Then up at 6:30in the week as we commute for school run.

I stay up late otherwise I wouldn't see my dh due to his working hours

whowhatwhen · 13/10/2024 21:03

I'm 41, I work full time and have a 5 year old. I go to bed at 9.30 and get up at 5.

Touloosia · 13/10/2024 21:04
  1. Up at about 10.30, asleep by 11, wake at 7.

If I didn't have to get up my pattern would naturally be bed at about midnight, asleep by 1am. Wake up about 9am.

curlycurlymoo · 13/10/2024 21:04
  1. Asleep by 1030. Awake at 6.
AGrunner · 13/10/2024 21:04

42, 3 kids age 6-11, work 3 days. Usually go to bed at 10ish asleep by 10.30. Wake at 6.45/7am. I need my 8 hours so try and be disciplined. My husband seems to cope on 7 hrs which I’m envious of as often feels like not much evening once kids in bed and stuff round house done.
