For context: I'm 36, mum of three (youngest is 2.5), work four days a week.

Im also someone who needs a lot of sleep.

So... introductions over. I'm in bed for 8/8.30 and asleep 8.30-9 every night. I then get up at 5.30/6 with my toddler.

Aibu to ask your age and when you go to sleep?

30, bed at 9pm then lights out by 10/10.30pm. Alarm goes at 6.50am. No kids yet so am enjoying the long sleeps while I can.

Wishboneswishes · 13/10/2024 20:37

56 - bed at 10pm, read for hour at least then wake around 7.30 ish.

JaceLancs · 13/10/2024 20:38

60 and I go to bed between 10 and 10.30
usually read or listen to podcasts for up to another hour

mynameiscalypso · 13/10/2024 20:38

40, with a 5 year old. Go to bed about 11.30, normally asleep by midnight. Up at 7ish other than Sunday when I sleep in until 9.

Scottishgirl85 · 13/10/2024 20:38

This is insane, do the majority of people go to bed really early? Gosh I need to make changes!

I'm 39, 3 kids. Bed 11.30, up 5.30/6. I thought 6 hours was normal for busy mums!

Crunchymum · 13/10/2024 20:38

Mid 40's, in bed at 10pm-ish. Read for an hour and then asleep by 11pm **

Up between 6am and 7am depending on DC's morning clubs.

Same bedtime at weekends but maybe get an extra hour (or two!) in bed so up around 8am.

**Unless I'm having a bout of insomnia and then all bets are off.

TenderChicken · 13/10/2024 20:38

I try to be asleep by midnight. I have to make myself though, I can easily stay up until 3am. Up at 6:30 on work days.

I'm 39.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/10/2024 20:38

Yabu.

Early 60s, no young children (obvs!) I go to bed between 10pm and midnight, most usually around 10.30 to 11.00. I sleep for four hours, awake for two or three hours, and then sleep again for another two or three hours.

Maria1979 · 13/10/2024 20:38

45, sleep 22 , up 6 but interrupted sleeping due to stress I think..

rollerblind · 13/10/2024 20:38

39 and I'm in bed now, so half 8 Smile

MargaretBetts · 13/10/2024 20:39

mid 50s, bed by 9:45, up between 5 and 5:45.

FastFood · 13/10/2024 20:39

45 - no kids - in bed at around 11 and up around 6am.

Iloveacurry · 13/10/2024 20:39

51, usually go to bed 10.30-11.00. Read for a bit. Alarm at 6.15, up at 6.45.

bumblefeline · 13/10/2024 20:39

43 bed between 12.30 and 1 am. Work full time two grown up kids.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/10/2024 20:40

For context, I'm usually eating dinner at 8.30pm.

Laloue233 · 13/10/2024 20:40

51 and 55, usually in bed by 10/10:30 up at 6:30/7. If he’s doing long distances and early starts then he’ll be in bed by 8:30 and I’ll sneak in later, I can’t stay asleep that early to be fit for the next day.

Ineffable23 · 13/10/2024 20:40

I go to bed sometime between 9 and 10, generally 9:30ish. I go to sleep somewhere between 9:30 and 11, generally 10ish. I wake up about 6:30, but it varies between 05:30 and 07:30.

I would naturally wake up earlier and earlier and go to bed earlier and earlier but that's very antisocial. This is about the best I can manage without having no evening at all.

Edited: Age 31 here

betterangels · 13/10/2024 20:41

47, no kids. In bed between 11pm and midnight. Asleep 30 minutes later. Up at 8am.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 13/10/2024 20:42

40 in bed by 10:30 alarm goes at 7:15. I thought this was quite early but maybe not! I used to be a night owl pre DC and rarely went to bed before midnight, but didn't need to get up until 8/8:15 then

When do you do all the chores/life admin? You work 4 days and have three kids so how does that work? I have one (although work FT) but can't go to bed earlier than 11:30pm...

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 13/10/2024 20:42

Can't believe how early some people go to bed! 8 or 8.30 is a child's bedtime in my opinion. Even when my children were small I went to sleep at 11 and got up about 7, otherwise I had no evening to myself. I'm 60 and retired, if I haven't got to do anything early the next day I now go to sleep about 1.30, get up 9.30, obviously adjust if necessary.

Mairzydotes · 13/10/2024 20:42
  1. Usually go to bed about 10pm .

Tbh , I could go to sleep by 8:30pm and likely feel better for it but I have too much to do.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 13/10/2024 20:42

35 on Wednesday coming, no DC.
I have insomnia from PTSD, so it can be anywhere from 9pm, to 8am the next day. With knock on effect of sleep later the day after etc.

Swivelhead · 13/10/2024 20:42
  1. 9pm if home, though sometimes I work till about 11pm. Those nights I zombify till about 2am.

I'd highly recommend "why we sleep" - also an excellent audiobook. I have always been a committed sleeper but this really cemented for me why it's worthwhile making the time for 8 hours in bed.
