I'm just curious really!

Mine is £99 combined direct debit per month based on estimated use and I'm in credit which is handy for over the winter.

3 bed house, two adults, one child.

I'm just wondering if what I'm paying is about average.

5 bed, 5 adults, 2 electric cars, one belonging to student DS who also works using his car twice a week. Gaming teen son. DH works from home and we are tech heavy! Lots of washing and I iron but line dry and heat house to 20 degrees in the evenings.
£560 per month!

Mynaddmawr · 13/10/2024 19:22

£50 a month for each on a prepayment meter, we normally use all the lecky and there's about £100 extra built up on the gas. Tiny 2 bed 1830's terrace with granite walls. Both neighbours have the heating on full whack which helps! We keep ours at 20 for the toddler otherwise we'd just be wearing jumpers 😅

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 13/10/2024 19:22

I pay for what I use, so no DD, but it's between £50-£70 per month for one person in a tiny (really small) cottage. I don't have the heating on, take two showers a day and do laundry once a week. So much of mine is standing charge. It's electricity only, no gas to our village.

Isis1981uk · 13/10/2024 19:22

£128 pm for a 3 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 kids, but we're not using that at the moment & also overpaying so lots of credit for Winter.

AgentJohnson · 13/10/2024 19:23

90 euros a month for a two bedroom apartment. We live in a new build with a rating of A+. It’s double what it was 2 years ago. I have a smart meter and so I pay what I owe.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 13/10/2024 19:24

5 bed house and we pay £322 a month, all through the year.

this is with octopus.

i don’t even use a tumble dryer

Arlanymor · 13/10/2024 19:24

Average is £89 per month (gas and electric), two bed ground floor flat. I haven’t had the heating on since April and I generally just layer up. I pay for what I use and report readings each month, so nothing accumulated.

TeenLifeMum · 13/10/2024 19:25

Really interesting variations. Ours is set at £148 per month direct debit combined gas and electric.

4 bed newbuild house with a study. We had a hot tub until 2 months ago so I’m interested to know what difference that makes as it was here when we moved in, but it was a high spec one so well insulated. Also we are a family of 2 adults and 3 teens.

we’re currently £410 in credit.

we use the tumble dryer all the time and are really not strict about our usage, but we have held off putting the heating on… I think it might go on tonight!

Boohoo76 · 13/10/2024 19:25

£420 per month for a five bed detached. Two adults, two kids. We are on Calor gas rather than mains gas and it’s expensive. We also have an electric car and DH and I both work from home.

MouseofCommons · 13/10/2024 19:25

£180 month for both. 3 bed terrace and 3 of us. That balances out quite nicely without ever getting into energy debt. Heating is on 24/7 now until April and set to 20°. I'll turn it up if the weather gets proper cold.

I think my unit price must be quite high as I'm on the most green / expensive octopus deal.

Itiswhysofew · 13/10/2024 19:26

4 bed, 3 storey rural house, 2 adults.
€150/€200 pm with energia.
Use oil for heating, approx €2.5k annually. Use open fire when freezing, €120 for a load that lasts a few months. Solar panels as well, which are bloody useless in this country!

Oldnproud · 13/10/2024 19:26

Two of us in a small two- bedroom terraced house, electric only and paying £10 per month.

As you might have guessed, this is because we had built up a large amount of credit, so are vastly under-paying at the moment to balance things out again.

The only reason I'm posting this is to point out that what people are paying at any given moment and how much energy they are actually using can be very different things.

Our actual monthly usage over a year will average out at over £100 (I can't remember the precise predicted figure and don't want to work it out right now).

My point is that other people's monthly payments have to be taken with a pinch of salt and are pretty meaningless unless they can guarantee that the figure they give is close to 1/12 of their average annual usage

Furrydogmum · 13/10/2024 19:26

Almost £300 per month. Large 4 bed semi, 5 adults and several dogs and cats. Rarely use the gch so the costs are mainly electric - we do have an electric shower.. Never in credit!

Nothatgingerpirate · 13/10/2024 19:27

£280.
2 people, retired.

Tulipvase · 13/10/2024 19:27

We pay 200 a month for both. But are 400 in credit. 4 bed terraced Victorian house. A family of 5 but one at uni. Heavy users of Wi-Fi and washing machine. Haven’t really had the heating on yet but we do have and use 2 log burners.

DonnaDonna0 · 13/10/2024 19:27

Standing charges alone are about £30 a month so some of these DD seem really low.
We have a three bed detached, 2 adults, 1 child and pay about £180 a month. We do have a bank of credit built up from a previous year when we paid about £250 but it will reduce over the winter months.

xyz111 · 13/10/2024 19:32

Wow, that's cheap!!!!!! £160 a month, 2 adults 1 child 4 bed detached.

JosieB68 · 13/10/2024 19:32

£137 direct debit per month but we only have electric. 2 adults 1 child, 3 bed semi.

I wonder if the age of the house is a factor. Ours seems quite energy efficient. It’s newbuild style but actually it’s 20 years old. We did get a new builder 4 years ago.

Outnumberedmummy2022 · 13/10/2024 19:33

£140 per month gas and electric, 3 bed semi detached 5 of us, 2 adults, 3 children.
I have solar panels too

Outnumberedmummy2022 · 13/10/2024 19:35

Oh I am always cold too, my house from beginning of this month has been on at least 22 consistently

grimupnorthnot · 13/10/2024 19:37

Electric is £80 a month but that includes charging EV.

our heating is oil and around £100 a month

2200sq ft 4 bedroom detached house 3 at home.

have solar and batteries so sell our solar back on top of this and charge our batteries on the cheap over night rate.

orangetriangle · 13/10/2024 19:37

I do have a sin who is continually gaming so that doesn't help the electricity and an air conditioning unit in summer

orangetriangle · 13/10/2024 19:38

son

Fevertreelover · 13/10/2024 19:39

£290 for both. Family of 5, 3 adults and 2 kids plus we charge an electric car.
