I'm just curious really!

Mine is £99 combined direct debit per month based on estimated use and I'm in credit which is handy for over the winter.

3 bed house, two adults, one child.

I'm just wondering if what I'm paying is about average.

£210 a month for 4 bed detached, 2 parents 2 kids. Octopus Energy just make it up as they go along. Heating is not even on regularly. Temperature for heating is set to 19°. Mostly electric with ovens, ninja etc. Gas only for Boiler/Heating/Hot water

Notaflippinclue · 13/10/2024 19:05

£157 2 bed electric only - 2 of us

MargaretBetts · 13/10/2024 19:05

£200, two of us here permanently, third one here for two long weekends a month. 4 bed, 3 receptions, high ceilings. Thermostat set to 20-21 degrees when we are at home, 18 overnight and if we are out. Heat pump drier, electric ovens, induction hob, cook from scratch 90% of the time, five loads of washing a week on average.

No credit at all as we go into the winter which is a bit grim as I had £1,000 at this point last year.

Whammyammy · 13/10/2024 19:06

DD is £220pm combined. 3 bed cottage, also have open coal/log fire.

Dolallytats · 13/10/2024 18:19

Blimey, I'm in a 2 bed flat and pay £175 and have no credit on the account. I'm also very stingy with the heating. Time to look at price comparisons, I think.

I’m wondering whether you are paying for everyone else’s!!!

153 a month dd. No idea if I'm in credit or by how much as the smart meter doesn't work and despite being aware for the last year they haven't been out to fix it. I got sick of chasing it last year after my partner died. At some point I'll just phone via citizen's advice and make a complaint.

Could you log on to your online account and input a manual reading or does the smart meter no longer display anything?

Sdpbody · 13/10/2024 19:09

£270 a month but I will NEVER go without heat or my tumble dryer.

mondaytosunday · 13/10/2024 19:09

Just about £97, and I am in credit. Until recently with teen DD. Three bed plus small office period terrace. I use the gas fire a lot, do not put my heating on til November (though today was tempted). I have that on all day but set at 18 and the thermostat is in the warmest room in the house.
Not sure the amount of people in the house has much effect. I use the hob/oven for the same amount of time whether cooking for one or four. I guess fewer showers and fewer washing machine loads (though I do have a dryer).

Notaflippinclue · 13/10/2024 19:09

Thank God for the wood burner and free wood

NoWordForFluffy · 13/10/2024 19:10

4 bed, 1 office, terraced townhouse.

I pay £133 a month and we're around £200 in credit.

September's actual usage attached. It'll go up this month a bit as the heating is coming on a little now.

Average actual usage over last year equals £76 a month, 2 bedroom 1980s house, all electric, no gas. Most expensive month actual usage was £130. I choose to pay as I go along - makes me feel more connected to what I consume.

I installed a heat pump two years ago and it has been great and allowed me to get rid of gas connection so less standing charge. House is always 20C.

Also have a couple of solar panels which cover a lot of my demand during summer (so long as I am sensible and put the washing machine/dishwasher etc on in middle of day rather than at night).

Sheepareawesome · 13/10/2024 19:11

£230 with 5 people 4 of whom are home all day. Heating not on much but loads of electric for computers etc all day. Still cheaper than commuting was though!

Timelash · 13/10/2024 19:11

Ours was recently increased from £94 direct debit per month combined, to £225 per month. A big leap but £94 was ridiculously low, and I should’ve probably said something when they set it at that amount.

We have a three bed house, GCH, and also charge our car from the mains. Don’t really hold back from putting on the heating and have a tumble dryer.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 13/10/2024 19:11

Ours is about 150 combined. 6 bed house, but it is quite well insulated and we are v stingy.

TheCentreCannotHold · 13/10/2024 19:12

Interesting! Just checked ours; £112 pcm, 3-bed semi, two adults, two teens. I've always thought we did alright, but clearly there are some very savvy people on this thread.

sleepyscientist · 13/10/2024 19:12

£55 as the hot tub is off it should be around £200. We pay on bill

LuckysDadsHat · 13/10/2024 19:13

225 a month 90s build with 3 people. 2 work from home the majority of the time.

I would be careful if your usage is estimated. You may find yourself with a huge bill! You need to be submitting monthly readings.

noodlercanoodler · 13/10/2024 19:16

£100pm electricity all year round

£300pm gas from (October - March)

£50pm (April - September)

orangetriangle · 13/10/2024 19:17

220 combined 3 bed semi detached old bungalow. That being said I won't be cold our stat is set to come on morning and evening when it goes below 19.5 but as it gets colder that will be moved up to 21 we do override it if it gets cold and temperature in house goes below 18 I work from home and it's too cold otherwise. so a couple of days last week turned it on during the day until it got to 19.5 though will alter that as it gets colder set to come on at 14 or below overnight which very rarely happens. We do have a tumble dryer which in winter is used every other day 3 adults i would never get the washing dry.
we also have an electric fire which we use either to top up if very cold or instead of heating if we don't over ride it and sit in the lounge
I would rather eat beans on toast than be cold though fortunately we can afford it though for many many years we struggled but at 55 I can't be cold

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 13/10/2024 19:17

Just had my monthly bill as I'm on a smart meter. I pay £93 per month. I'm £247 in credit. (This month my total bill was £78)
2 bed 1930s semi - had a brand new boiler last month, so hoping that's more efficient. 2 of us in the house, DD spent 3 nights a week at her dads. We both shower daily, I run the tumble dryer 4 times per week and I put the heating on when I'm cold. I have a log burner so will use that a couple of nights instead of heating.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 13/10/2024 19:17

I live by myself in a 3 bed end terrace heating is only on if I'm in and that's not all that often and if it is it's max 19/20 for maybe 2/3 hours I feel like I'm being robbed.
£114 DD currently in credit.
I do use my tumble dryer once a week for bedding and towels but I fail to see why it's so high to be honest

orangetriangle · 13/10/2024 19:18

to add we regularly submit meter readings as don't want to end up with a huge bill due to estimated readings

timetodecide2345 · 13/10/2024 19:19

£160 a month. 4 bedroom semi.3 of us.

OldTinHat · 13/10/2024 19:19

Why do we keep asking the same question?

Is it a competition - ooh, I have 7 children and 19 adults and pay 50p? Or, I'm a single parent earning £2,400 and I'm paying £400 a month.

It's pointless. Why keep asking??

Just check your tariff, check your usage, and use a comparison website (preferably one that gives you cash back).

Job done.

dutysuite · 13/10/2024 19:20

I pay £200 a month but I’m in debt, hardly have the heating on. I’m with eon next and wish I could move supplier.
